I was pretty excited to have a new grocery store come to town. Made my first trip to it last night…read more. Sad to say i was utterly unimpressed . here are some takeaways : 1. the meat department offering was pathetic . Example there was not a single T-bone or porter house steak in the place , and the other meat items they DID have .... Well i ididn't buy because the prices were outrageously high compared to Fareway or Walmart . 2. There were numerous empty shelves and Out Of Stock items all over the store 3. The prices on a lot of things were the prices you would pay at a convenience store ... HIGH 4. In spite of all that i still bought a few things. When i got home i realized i was missing several items they had forgotten to bag .... so i had to drive 10 miles back to Maquoketa , and when i got there.....There was not a single cashier . Only thing open was those "self check out lanes " I am looking around trying to figure out what the hell i am gonna do ...And then i spot my items sitting on a service counter .. I just went over picked it up and walked out . .. And then drove TEN miles back home .. Unless something major changes / improvements are made there , i don't think the future is gonna be very bright for this store .

Regardless, I chose Walmart as my "go to store" for all my needs but lately I was treated like I don't matter through their checkout! Customer service putting it politely "IT SUCKS", twice in a row now!! I'm not sure, if it's racism or it's just both cashier that I've chosen but they are literally rude each time to "ME"!! One cashier spoke to a customer behind me while ringing my items up and no "meet & greet" just continue their conversation with her friend until all my items are rung up and I had a cart full. It was irritable and I submitted a review on this incident to the store manager as well. And on a different day, another cashier, did the same thing just rang my stuff up and no "meet & greet" either, but slightly better (smh) she didn't talk to anyone behind me. I mean when I was a cashier I always greet people, how could you not, customers standing right in front of you. I would always say "Hi how are you, did you find everything okay?", you know the usual blah, blah, blah, like humans do, but not a word, I'm the customer but I felt awkward so I'm the one who ask her how she was. And she actual answered "fine thank you", FOR REAL? After I asked her, I thought to myself, this ain't right! I spent lots of money here each week/month. But I'm so done with this place to be miss treated by cashiers like this!! I was always polite to all my customers no matter what my situations or how bad my days was. Customer service is not the same anymore!! Food cost is expensive as it is. I don't want to add bad service to my bill either. NO THANK YOU!! There were so many firemen and policemen serving the meals, and were so helpful and friendly...all wearing smiles and made us feel they really WANTED to be there that day! This seems like a labor of love for them, and I am glad that they have stayed in business for so long. A noteworthy feature of the store is the prepared food selection. I'm not sure if there are any regular restaurants with organic-type food in Platteville (I doubt it), but at least I know that I can get something to eat here. They have hot food for lunch several times a week, plus soups and various cold prepared foods every day. The selection of bakery goods is especially nice. Everything is prepared on the premises, and they also have a very nice dining area in the converted apartment above the store (up a steep staircase). The vegan vegetable soup that I tried was excellent, and I also enjoyed the lemon shortbread cookie that I tried. I was disappointed, though, that even though I was informed that everything is organic, that actually is not true of the meats used in the prepared food products. So I plan to steer clear of foods with meat in them when eating here in the future, since I do not do well with meats when the animals have been fed glyphosate-contaminated feed. I actually threw the chicken salad that I bought away because it was inedible to me. I wish I had read the ingredient list before tasting it, rather than trusting what the store employee told me about all the prepared food being organic. The fact that they are using non-organic meats in the prepared foods seemed a little odd to me since they actually have a very, very nice selection of organic local meats in the freezer section. So it must just be that they are trying to keep costs down on the prepared foods, in order to increase sales volume. That is not a strategy that I really approve of, but it may be necessary for them to stay in business, I guess. As is evidenced with the prepared food, there seems to be a strong vegetarian/vegan emphasis throughout this store, with many such products being stocked. The fresh produce section was pretty good (though i am not sure what it will be like in winter months). I bought some frozen ground lamb and thought the quality was very good. It has been hard for me to get good lamb here and so will be buying that from this store again. They also stock New Century organic pastured eggs, which I have found in the past to be very good quality for eggs available in a supermarket. Those eggs are no longer being sold in Galena/Dubuque though, and so I very well may make special trips to this store to buy those eggs during the winter months, when it is harder to get good eggs from local producers. The selection of cheeses was pretty good, though with the local products, it would be really helpful to know what the animals are eating (e.g. grass-fed, organic feed, GMO-free feed, conventional feed). It would be pretty easy for the store to collect that information and supply it, if they chose to do so. I thought it was nice that there were a variety of store-made frozen soups being stocked (though I would not eat a high percentage of them since they were made with non-organic meat). I was not particularly impressed by choices of packaged goods products stocked by the store, since I feel that in many cases that they had not selected the better products from various categories. A lot of their products were non-organic and had ingredients such as "natural flavors" in them, for instance. In addition, I felt that the packaged goods products were across the board quite high-priced. I would like to see more local packaged goods too. I guess in keeping with their lunchtime focus, their selection of drinks was quite good, and the prices on these were not too bad. Again, all in all, it is great to have a market like this in a town like Platteville. If I lived in town, I would likely come in regularly to buy produce, meat, eggs, cheese and prepared foods. And I undoubtedly will go out of my way to stop by again when I am in this general area or when I need eggs or lamb.

This is just a review for the pharmacy and the so called "empathetic pharmacist". A pharmacist here…read moretold me that my PTSD was not real. She also raised her voice about my medication to the point where other people on the chairs in line were staring at me. That's a HIPPA violation by the way and has been reported as such. Also, the woman made a joke of "you don't look like a soldier" when I brought up my PTSD. I have been in contact with Walmart corporate and they are appalled by the situation and sending people to this Walmart to evaluate the situation and/or fire them. I have never been so humiliated in my life and I'm glad corporate is taking it as seriously as they are. I highly recommend going to any other pharmacy in galena. Also, the pharmacist trying to tell me my doctor (who is triple board certified by the way) was wrong and she "knew better" about my medications is highly illegal and I find it very suspicious that Walmart hired pharmacists who so clearly do not follow the law. Pharmacists can lose their license for HIPPA violations like this but it's entirely on them. Shouldn't have gone into the field if you don't follow the law.
