Since I have been living in Mexico City since…read more2010, I have been coming to see him at least twice a year for botox and restalyn injections. I think one year he removed a cyst from my neck, which was a small surgery that involved stitched. Most usually I have showed up here without an appointment, and it has never been a problem. I know that most normal patients would take the time to schediule an appointment, but more often than not, I dont know what my schedule is on a day-to-day basis. This place keeps me busy for sure! He has always been here to help me. For you expats, this office would not seem typical of a doctor's office in the U.S. you greet the doctor in his office with an actual office desk. But trust and believe, this doctor is top notch and has a vast amoint of 40+ years of experience in dermotology. I also like the fact the he mixes the injectables right there in front of you. Too many times in the states I was left wondering just how much saline was being mixed with the injection.

I started developing weird symptoms and…read moreabnormal bleeding on the flight to Mexico-I was freaking out internally and it was extremely difficult to find an English speaking doctor online. It was also difficult to make same day appointments in general. Without knowing the severity of the situation, Dr. Manuel Loria Casanova (great name) accepted my last minute appointment (as in, I walked in) and was attentive and kind the entire time. He was very careful and extremely thorough. In fact, he went out of his way to schedule a phone check up with me after the initial 24 hours to monitor my progress. It was incredible. This is not all. I walked here thinking that the most I could do was schedule an appointment, so I didn't bring enough cash(remember to do so). I said I can leave the prescription with him and come back to pay and get it later. He handed me the prescription, gave me a hug, and said that he'll see me later. Best doctor ever?!

Fabulous people at the pharmacy. But, this pharmacy is huge - 8 buildings, and confusing, and…read morepacked with people. I was nervous. To buy something that is by prescription in the US, but over the counter in Mexico you have to figure out the system. Turns out you go up to the people behind the computer, behind the counter, in the center of the front of the store and ask for what you want. Have the name of the drug, and the milligrams for that drug written down so there is no confusion on what you want. The computer folks make you a ticket, and you go to the cashier to pay. The cashiers are in little boxes across from the computer people. You will pay and get several receipts. Then you bring the ticket, and all of the receipts to a third counter at the back of the ring of counters before you go into the retail store section. (I told you it was confusing). Your drugs come up from the basement in a funny scoop. Your name will be called, and you pick it up. Now, if you want Retin A, you have to go to a different building that has an 81 flag outside. Again, you get a ticket for what you want, go to the cashier, pay, and go to the third counter to give the person behind the counter and give them the receipts, and they will give you the product. As long as you understand the system, it's easy. And, a huge thank you to Nora, the employee who helped me every step of the way.
