There's plenty of parking, the staff are friendly and welcoming -- all in all, we couldn't recommend this place highly enough.

Half way between thornton dale and pickering, cedar barn is in a beautiful setting and there's nothing to distract you from the gorgeous fields that surround it. I don't know if they still do this but they used to grow strawberries and other fruits that you can go and pick and these were grown to perfection and if they still do this then I definitely recommend it.

Two of them were selling a very watery Glühwein and one had traditional wooden toys. The rest could have been on any market, anywhere. There was an excellent hot food stall selling wursts, hot poatato salad and pork schweinbraten, lovely. There was plenty of bench seating but no atmosphere whatsoever. The stall holders looked bored rigid.

What's brilliant about the Market is that it doesn't run on a specific day of the week as most town's markets do. Newgate market is there everyday! A lot of the stalls change - some days you may find hand made jewellery, the next antiques. But you can always be assured to find a couple of excellent quality fruit and veg stalls as well as pet supplies, another regular is socks/pajamas stall, and there is generally always a stall offering accessories for your mobile phone. During the winter months the market spills out onto Parliament street and is called St Nicholas fair' . I highly recommend getting hats scarves and coats on and have a look. It's wonderfully christmassy and there's always lovely festive roast chestnut stalls adding to the all important Christmas ambiance

Overall it's also something that is very close to each other. So if you are visiting Shambles Street you might as well visit the Shambles Market. You might also be surprised at what you might find. It's worth a look even if this isn't your type of scene. I found this market just by turning into a small alley way while on Shambles street. There is a large sign that will point you into the right direction of the market. I'm not sure what time it closes but it isn't open very late so I would say come during the mid morning/early afternoon time. Tip- Try to group your sites together so you won't waste time by double backing to the same area. If you are coming to Shambles, also make your way to this market.

They also have a range of bread, cakes (delicious!!!), Ice Cream from local makers and a deli counter. You can also pick up biscuits, preserves, fresh home cooked ready meals, fruit wines, local ales and other artisan products, even Potato Vodka! The cafe is excellent and they currently offer a free cup of tea or coffee for all visitors before 11am!. You can sit and enjoy breakfast, sandwiches, light lunches and some lovely home cooked deserts. In the summer there are wide arrays of fruits to be picked in the several pick your own areas from the obligaotry strawberrys to gooseberrs to raspberrys.
