I've been visiting the Farmer's Market for years, more than a decade, and it's long been my first…read morestop for buying local produce, honey, and things like that all this time. But on a recent visit, I was there when a young man came in to drop off an application. He was neat and well-groomed, but he had long hair. The owner took his application and berated him -- that's really the only word I can use -- on his hair and told him he'd have to cut his hair before he'd even consider hiring him. The boy acknowledged that he'd do it if he was hired, thanked the owner, and left. And this is why I'm writing my review -- once the boy left, and he couldn't have been more than 16 or 17 so literally just a kid, the owner began mocking him and talking about how he'd never have such a "trash excuse for a human being working behind MY counter and representing MY business." I might understand that kind of attitude had he been talking about a particularly disheveled and sloppy person, but this was literally just a kid with long hair. He was wearing pressed pants and a polo shirt. He was neat and clean. He was completely respectful in all his interactions with the owner from the time he arrived until the time he left. There was absolutely no reason to talk about him like that -- *especially considering this was just a kid. The trash talk did not end there, but since my order was complete and I'd paid, I left while he was still ranting to anyone who'd listen -- customers and employees alike. As much as I've made the Farmer's Market a part of my life all these years, that is the last visit I will ever make. I get that he's the owner and can make whatever choices and decisions he wants, but to be so grossly unprofessional like that and about a KID who is looking for a JOB and not being the least bit rude to him at all? Yeah, I'll take my business elsewhere, thanks.

Though I was in there a short 10-15mins if that caused a bit of a conflict with the woman in the bakery next door. As there is minimum parking available in the lot and street parking well I wasn't sure if it was allowed. The bakery lady went out of her to inform me that next time I visited I can't park in front of her trash cans because it's a fire hazard. I told her ok I just ran in and the man inside said it was ok. She said no it's not you're blocking my cars and my trash cans so it's a fire hazard. I just told her don't worry about it I was going to go into her bakery to spontaneously buy goodies but now I'll never give her my business!! Better yet during business hrs she should park her vehicles on the street so customers know they have a place to park! With that being said if there's no parking in the lot you'll have to park on the street but you'll then understand why I didn't. So Produce store is a good place to stop in and support a local small business

It gets crowded on the weekends. If you try and stagger the time that you go, it may not be as busy. Parking is meter/paid parking, but you may luck up and find free parking. It's a must if you are ever visiting STL or if you simply want to go to the farmers market!! I love going to the Soulard spice shop. It is one of my favourites.I have a few preferred produce stands i love going to for fresh fruits and vegetables. And don't forget about the flower shop.

Review Title: 4 Easy steps to 52 Saturdays of CONTROLLED CHAOS!…read more The MUST-DO thing for all St. Louis'ians and Non-St. Louis'ians. But you gotta do it right! Step 1: Schedule a Saturday off to yourself (yes, the Market's open Wed-Sat, but you get 100% vendorship on Saturdays) Step 2: Set your alarm clock EARLY! The trick is the "when" do you get there? Wait til the later hours of the day.. and every shop will be empty that you went for! I've learned this too many times in my sleep-in days, to get there way too late to find so many of the shops sold out, or the "runts" of the sales left. So figure out Early and then getup before then! Step 3: Get in your car and go shopping!!! (Follow the map of course!) Plain and simple you want fresh produce.. this is where you go. Whether it's veggies,. meats, baked goods, coffee, soaps, sweets, snacks, and even alchy beverages if you so desire! (and you just might as the day goes on) Get there early and load up! (Just warning you, you may have to make a few runs between your shops and your car, considering what you -could- load up on. Now as stated by many, it's a smorgasboard of what you can find, all along the entire market. (but just a word of advice, whatever you buy at the market, please clean and store PROPERLY as soon as you get home, this is a farmer's market and you can lose some fresh produce REALLY QUICK!) And just remember you're going to have to fight your way through the crowds. because EVERYONE and their relative knows to come here. (Picture yourself in a demolition derby with everyone.. cause that's what it's going to feel llike... Controlled Chaos! **See I knew I'd fit the title in here somewhere*) I will admit you there are some vendors that sell the usual "touristy wares" on occasion, such as "gold jewelry", Sports uniforms (Battlehawks, Cardinals, Blues), you know the quick .. touristy stuff. But the real value is the food and the food 'trucks', including BBQ , New Orleans style cuisine, mediterranean.. you know everything you can find at a farmer's market :) STEP 4: And to top off the day. a real daiquiri or bloody mary to seal the deal! And there you have it folks... 4 steps to a Controlled Chaos of a Saturday in the Lou!!
