This specific farmers has really gotten a do up recently. It has a whole new layout and the bottom floor specifically has a great outlook now. It is totally open spaced and light and bright and airy. There is a really inviting atmosphere there which is nice and a perfect change from before when it was all dark and gloomy. The staff are nice and very helpful when you can find them. It is a big store and sometimes it can be a little bit hard to find the right person to help you, let alone a person.

I find Farmers department store better for its clothes than it's household items - if you want…read moresomething for your house/flat at a reasonable price then Briscoes is your man. Stevens do good deals in their yellow sticker sales and Farmers in Henderson mall contain a Stevens shop so there is a big selection to choose from. As I was saying, I think they are better value for clothes as I bought a new suit and shirt and tie in their 40% off sale before xmas. The whole combo only worked out at about $240 and trousers and jacket were of good quality and will hopefully last for a while. Farmers also caters to some of the bigger men as you can get XL, XXL and XXL sizes which is not often the case in some of the trendier mens boutiques.

And even more so, the Farmers specialty stores like the Home stores are even greater becouse they have an awesome selection of products to choose from relating specifically to home environments. However, I did not like going to this particular Home store, for a couple for reasons. The staff were not very friendly here, they were actually rather rude when we approached them asking for help, and this was after having to find them as we weren't even greeted upon entering the store (and there was like on one else in the store besides us). And I also really do not like the layout of the store, it makes the space feel claustrophobic when it doesn't need to be, as it is a massive space. The place is set up so that there are these random diagonal rows going across the floor, sort of like awkward supermarket set up, and it makes it that you cannot see where anything is. So, I will not be returning anytime soon.

You may think that Farmers are always the same, but there is something about this one that makes it…read moremy favourite. Maybe it's because it's been my local since I was born, I'm not sure. It is situated on the bottom level at the main entrance of Westfield Shore City in the middle of Takapuna. Because of this, you pretty much have to walk through it to get anywhere in the mall. I don't mind this though. There are always perfume and underwear specials and other dangerous things to distract me from what I was doing. The girls behind the makeup places are really friendly and don't push me to buy anything which I appreciate. There kids, men and womens clothing, make up, perfume, homewares and toys. I do like Farmers when shopping for dad because they have nice t-shirts and hoodies that aren't expensive. Farmers has been around for as long as it has for a reason - it is reliable, affordable and caters to many people.

They do have a decent-sized beauty section here though, where you can get the more mainstream products at reasonable prices - so if you're ever in town an need an emergency hair tie or moisturiser, definitely head to Farmers rather than a pharmacy, as the prices are bound to be better. The men's and women's clothing sections are pitiful at this branch though, so I wouldn't even bother. The best Farmers for clothes are Botany or St Lukes. Don't bother either with the basement section of this Farmers either, it's an un-funky 'industrial' (read: we were too cheap to finish it properly) hell where tweeny clothes go to die.

They also have a little shelf of beauty products, they stock deodorant, body care, a little bit of vegan leather purses and wallets, my favorite Hurraw! lip balm, loads of vegan treats like peanut butter cups, VEGO BARS, this place has everything! I stopped in after a magical brunch at Kokako, looking for some vegan nail polish (why is nail polish not vegan already??! Get it together, beauty companies). Anyway, lucky me, when I came into the store and spotted the beauty display, the lady behind the counter told me that they just got these babies in. I got first pick! I walked out with a nice nude/light pink polish for $16.90. While I love the Cruelty Free Shop, it's never cheap. I've also been to the Cruelty Free Shop in Melbourne, Australia, which is freaking MASSIVE. Obviously Melbs is a much more vegan-centric city than Auckland, but it was really cool that Auckland is vegan enough to have it's own Cruelty Free Shop, albeit tiny AF. I'll definitely be back to stock up on Vego bars, peanut butter cups, and maybe even splurge on a high quality vegan cheese. Look out for their sales, the day that I went they were selling all vegan cheese for $5.

Small, independent shops that sell health foods and animal friendly toiletries to a crowd of city-dwelling would-be hippies never fail to make me a bit homesick. The Cruelty Free store is such a great idea for vegans and vegetarians committed to never using animal-based products and means they don't have to traipse all over the city to find things like shampoo and deodorant. They have the peace of mind knowing that whatever they buy here is totally legit. For such a tiny store, it's amazing how much they've actually got in here, from home wares to clothing to all the health and beauty products and vitamin pills and more.

I did a quick google search and found this place. Perfect when you need last minute food items for the plane or gifts to take home. This place is also awesome for its wide variety of items they sell. Everything from food to books to groceries to home goods. A couple drawbacks, there is a limited selection of specific types of items. Not to contradict myself but what I mean is that there were only several tiny aisles of food items. Second, prices for food items were slightly higher than the Countdown market right next door. Unfortunately, we went here first before Countdown. Nevertheless, we enjoyed coming here and killing time.
