first, we booked an outdoor seat a month ago. But they contacted us the day we made the reservation and told us that only indoor seats were available. I'm already offended here. We've been to fine dining and fancy restaurants all over the world, but we've never experienced anything like this before. Can't you let me know in advance? I think our reservation has been delayed due to the local people's reservation. Second, I asked for food without knowing that my order was received, but he took it very badly. I accept it's a difference in culture, but if you don't like it, the attitude of "Get out" causes discomfort. A kinder and more relaxed attitude would have impressed me. Third, the food was fine, but despite being accompanied by children, the restaurant served alcoholic desserts without prior notice. This is the worst service ever. Kids had to pay the same amount of course as adults, but I hope there is careful consideration for the part that contains alcohol. I believe it will be a much higher and better restaurant if it is operated with a more careful consideration and warm attitude.

A wonderful dining experience in Sydney. Very small, quaint space with a four course set menu. The food was amazing. The courses served had an interesting variety of items and flavors. The main course that night was sliced pork with a great salad and potato dish. The service was the best I have experienced in Sydney.

Prior to touching down in Sydney, I had only heard great things about Farmhouse and couldn't wait to finally give it a try. I made my booking about a month in advance and Mike's communication was great. You should know that the advanced booking will have you leave your credit card info since seating is limited (huge emphasis on this). I originally made plans to dine the day I landed in Sydney, but my friends had well planned something ahead of time. I had to reschedule and Mike was kind enough to find someone to fill my seats or else I would've been charged the full $55/person, even for a no-show. I finally came on my rescheduled date and I was really surprised at how small and tight seating is, but very intimate. My friend was stoked to come since she's been here a handful of times and has enjoyed each visit. They weren't kidding when they said space is limited--it is almost like a hole-in-the-wall with difficult seating accessibility (hard to get up if you sit by the wall, so try to hold it in or go beforehand). I can't recall having a prix fixe farm-to-table experience, but this was an enjoyable one. At first, I was a little put off that the main courses were shared, but by the end of the meal, I was so glad they were. We started with the Cheddar Spread with Chips & French Onion Dip. The dip was absolutely delicious and even after the chips were long gone, I couldn't stop eating the dip! The roast chicken meal was also great and felt like a Thanksgiving meal in the summer. The Cranberry & Sour Cream dip was incredible. I have to say that the Ginger/Lemon Myrtle Granita with Pear & Macadamia really took me by surprise. I never expected to have ice for dessert but it was a lovely treat and the spices were really on point with the fresh mint. I liked this much better than the prune tart, which was also good. Overall, this was a great experience. A little steep on the price, especially for shared plates, but it's a small business that provides the intimate experience you've always wanted. Staff was so warm and took the time to explain each dish to us, as was the mastermind behind the restaurant, Mike, whom I finally got the pleasure to meet and was so accommodating!

Goodness, I think for the first time I'm struggling to translate my thoughts and feelings about this place into words. Mike Mu Sung and Tristan Rosier, well done lads, well done. Imagine if you will, an intimate dinner for 20, in a simple "country house dining room" fit out with freshly baked flat bread and a couple of very impressive cakes to really set the tone. Farmhouse have 2 sittings during the week, a 6:30pm and an 8:30pm slot and even though it's only a 2 hr sitting, it feels well beyond 4 - they have some crazy juju powers over us. I love that the boys are also the chefs and deliver the food themselves so they can spend a couple minutes with us all - and boy what friendly folk they are. Easily the highlight dish of the night was the roasted chicken with pearl barley, carrot and the side dish of green beans - thats not to take away from an incredible dessert, a honeycomb, yoghurt, nashi pear and lavender dish - FLAWLESS !!! Can't wait to get back there.

Wow - amazing restaurant with creative/ inventive cuisine with no compromise on flavors ! I love degustation menu where you keep on being more and more surprised ! There is nothing I did not LoVe !! And the portions are sizeable! Note it is 60$ now. So worth it. The wine list is nice too. Service is super friendly and nice and I loved the communal table in this cosy room where you feel like a big family ;-) A great great restaurant - I cannot wait to be back and taste another menu soon !

I guess all the hype from yelp reviews and the ranking of being the best restaurant in Sydney kind of built up expectations that I felt were overhyped. It was very hard to find the restaurant than it was family style nothing wrong with that. The best way to describe the experience was one word unique which could be a bad thing or great thing. Now the food was good but not spectacular. I think we started our courses after one group and left before everyone else. The salad was unique and tasty and the beef was tender but I honestly can't remember anything else about the dishes except the dessert. Now would I Run back here? No. Would i dissuade someone from trying this spot? Absolutely not. I think we should all try different restaurants but this one wasn't for me. Try this establishment for yourself and make your own decision

What a gem my boyfriend and I found on our trip to Sydney. Tiny little restaurant with BIG flavors and lovely ambience. The food was wonderful but when the lightning, music, decor and staff are all just as lovely it's hard to find anything wrong. I personally love a tasting menu as I'm pretty adventurous but I definitely don't recommend taking a "modifier" or picky eater. I enjoyed both the red wines I tried but their "by the glass" selection is quite small. I hope this place will be around the next time we make it to Sydney!

Went here my last night in Sydney and was blown away. From start to finish my friend and I were wowed and for $60 it's an absolute steal. The menu changes every two weeks, which makes every experience at this 20 seat restaurant unique. Everything from the crab with apple corn and lime that kicked off our meal to the roasted chicken with all the sides you could dream on were to die for. Come hungry or be prepared to take some of your meal home. Will definitely be back the next time I'm on this side of the world

I am so grateful to have found the perfect venue to hold my 30th Birthday. I felt so much love and warmth in this tiny gem called Farmhouse, I couldn't have asked for more. I would like to thank Mike and Tristan for such a beautiful and special night. I highly recommend Farmhouse for anyone looking to have an intimate dining experience. I hope this post encourages you to try for yourself and explore what Farmhouse is about. The Chefs: Mike Mu Sung (formerly of Sixpenny) and Tristan Rosier (formerly of Biota Dining) Vibe: An intimate, rustic, cosy one room restaurant-barnhouse, with one long communal dining table. The staff are so friendly and attentive wanting to personally make sure you're enjoying yourself, you feel like you are dining at a friend's place where the food is passionately prepared and presented with love. You almost want to ask them to leave the kitchen and come sit down to eat. It's that type of place. Will impress: Everyone! Date night, catch up with the girls, dinner with long lost relatives - It's a very humbling experience. Great company, fresh and delicious food, a glass of wine or a bottle. Good times! The experience is like a good book, one you will pass onto a friend you invited, who in turn, will pass it to one of their friends. That's how I discovered this hidden gem - Thank you Nathan Soulsby for your recommendation! Spend: $$ - $55 set price for 5 courses , two of those are desserts. Dress code: Understated and effortless chic . Except if it's your 30th, then go nuts! ;) Food: It's a communal-style feast. The menu is seasonal , so its constantly changing. They often put the current menu on Facebook with applicable dates. The food is phenomenal and there is a LOT of it! To start, we had a grazing platter of pickled vegetables, seeded watermelon, prosciutto, tarragon butter (The butter is amazing!!) and Tristan's baguette. Followed by roasted king brown mushrooms, barley and artichokes, lamb shoulder served with Tuscan cabbage and sides of yogurt and spicy potatoes. We were then served tangy poached rhubarb, with a sweet meringue and grapefruit granita - the perfect combo! And of course, a birthday cake - Carrot & Raisin cake by Mike, which I will be picking up this week. My guests were so full we decided to save it so I can extend my birthday for another week ;) Watch this space for editing !! The cake is served at every sitting whether it's your birthday or not. Final Note: There are two seatings a night 6.30 and 8.30. If you have between 20-24 guests you can hire out the venue otherwise you can make new friends at the communal table. Also If you have any dietary requirement, whether you are vegan, gluten free, no soft cheese, lactose-intolerant ... they can cater accordingly, still providing you with a substantial meal. This was the most highly rated restaurant in Surry Hills, and it exceeded all expectations. I cannot say enough great things about the duck slow cooked in plum sauce. It was perfectly seasoned with a bright, sweet plum glaze-- the meat was so tender that it fell off the bone. This was hands down the most delicious duck dish I have ever eaten. We enjoyed a handful of their appetizers (oyster shooters, mini pancakes with crème fresh, etc), all of which were incredible. Very grateful to our waiter for being so helpful with menu suggestions and accommodating one of the guests with a more complicated food palette. The ambience inside was intimate with low warm lightly. The music was classy and not too loud. Such a beautiful and memorable space.

Regardless after a long day exploring Sydney, we had to eat! The Grub. Mac N' Cheese Bites ($12). It was just okay. I wasn't a huge fan of the choice of cheese they used. Cheeseburger Spring Rolls ($12). This was also just okay too, lacking the right flavor in my opinion. But that's probably because its vegan and they are using substitutes. Potato Pizza ($18). Our hotel's concierge suggested we look into breakfast eateries or a bakery at nearby Barangaroo wharf and pointed us two blocks down on Sussex Street, where we stumbled upon Wild Sage. Walking up to their patio dining area, we were greeted by a friendly young man who offered us a choice between patio and indoor seating and provided menus. We chose to dine outdoors to enjoy the beautiful sunny weather and cool yet comfortable temperature. After being seated, the young man, brought us glasses of chilled water while we waited for the server to take our morning beverage and breakfast orders. Our cheery server, Marissa, came by shortly after delivering another table's order and we were ready to order right away. FOOD & BEVERAGE: -Sticky Chai Tea: I requested the chai tea as its blend of natural spices with soy milk appealed to me on this slightly chilly morning. As I poured the steamy steeping hot chai tea through the strainer into the glass, its full aromas wafted towards me as I "aerated" or pulled the tea. $8.50 AUD -Proscuitto Toastie: Triple cheese (Gruyere, mozzarella, & scamorza), sliced proscuitto, truffle bechamel, & pickles on soy linseedsourdough. Although we're slightly lactose-intolerant, my husband decided to order this "upscale" ham and cheese sandwich. It was so rich in flavors and textures that he could only eat half the portion even though he was tempted to finish both sandwich halves. Notably, the toasted sourdough's crisp, crunchy, exterior and warm chewy interior tasted of caramelization and nuttiness. Its tangy sourness offered a savory balance to the creamy, slightly nutty and sweet scamorza and mozzarella cheeses. The creamy cheeses balanced the savory saltiness from the proscuitto and Gruyere. $24 AUD -Truffle Mushroom Toast: I selected this open faced toasted sourdough sandwich which was generously topped with roasted mixed mushrooms, confit garlic and truffle butter, thyme, goat cheese, crispy leeks, and poached eggs. The roasted mixed mushrooms flavors were enhanced "just right" with the truffle butter without being overpowered. This vegetarian sandwich was protein-packed, filling, and very flavorful. $26 AUD We took our time over breakfast while discussing our Sydney exploration plans at this clean, bright, and friendly cafe.
