If you work up an appetite on the ferry over to Manly, The Pantry is a decent restaurant to get your breakfast fix. It's expensive, because you're paying for the location and views, not just the food. I enjoyed the flat white and the plate that I got, a mushroom and prosciutto dish. It was definitely on the fancy side, but frankly, didn't blow me away. The servers were all friendly, but my dish took a pretty long time to come out. I'm usually pretty patient when dining out, but to wait around 20 minutes for a straightforward breakfast dish was not my favorite experience. Also, while I do think the servers were great, I really didn't appreciate the attitude of the hostess. I was dressed in gym clothes because I was walking the Manly-to-Spit trail right after breakfast. And while I appreciate that restaurants have standards for their clientele, I didn't appreciate the way I was greeted or approached, almost like I was offending the hostess by daring to set foot in this place. If you're located in a tourist hot spot, with a unique location that creates buzz on tourist websites, I'd say it's fair to expect tourists coming to your restaurant. And, at 9am on a Thursday, when almost every table was empty, maybe be a little more lenient and less judgmental on how someone is dressed when they want to spend money at your establishment. But that's just me.

This restaurant has the perfect location! It's on the actual beach. Gorgeous views. It's quite pricey but makes sense for the location. We had the garlic prawns and they were amazing! Also had the scallops and peppers with goat cheese. Those were great as well. We each ordered an aperitif - a spritz and it was made just like in Italy! The staff was also very nice. Only issue was I called while laying on the beach and they said there were no openings until after 3:30 but then I walked up 10 minutes later and they sat us right away. Still recommend For a small lunch or snack.

Just LOVELY & literally on the beach at Manly!!! Very quaint (yes, small) with original wood floors, brick walls and FAB OCEAN VIEWS!!! On a nice day all the windowed doors are opened so your eating on the beach WITHOUT sand in your food. My gf and I each ordered the Prawn salad with fried prosciutto, asparagus, goat cheese tossed in a light dressing was terrific. The Hubs had a charcuterie plate with breads, cold cuts, pate' and such which he said was VERY good! We followed up with cappuccinos~ OH LA LA, just a GR8, GR8 meal overall. Not sure if bookings/reservations are accepted~

Spicy Melon Cooler - Gin, melon liquor, lime, chili, sugar & soda water. Excellent and refreshing!

A small cozy restaurant right on Manly beach allowing for gorgeous sea views and great people watching entertainment...and if that's not enough, excellent food and drinks. Not surprising, this place is usually packed, so make reservations. Window seats are two seaters only but the space is small enough that if you need the bigger tables you still get to enjoy views. Service is fast and attentive. For drinks I had the spicy melon cooler which had Gin, Melon liqueur, lime, chili, sugar and soda water. Delicious! For my entree, I had the fried calamari which was lightly battered and flavorful. Main course, I chose the pan seared red snapper with potatoes, asparagus, artichokes, on a bed of mixed greens and goat cheese. The fish was perfectly seared on the outside allowing for a crisp skin while keeping the fish juicy and flavorful inside. All the other elements came together in a beautiful combination of flavors making this a perfectly light lunch on the beach. Lastly, for dessert I enjoyed the expresso and dark chocolate mousse with fresh berries and candies nuts - an excellent ending to a perfect meal! This place is not to be missed if you're in Manly!

Came here on a Monday afternoon at around 2PM. There wasn't any wait and we got seated really quick. The staff is very friendly and professional. We ordered pork belly and chilli & garlic prawns for starters. It was delicious, the prawns had lime, butter and garlic in it, that taste was great. We ordered Salmon and Angus Beef Burger for mains and the dark chocolate & espresso dessert. I ordered the mulled wine, but it tasted off. Probably the worst mulled wine I've ever had. However, the view is beautiful, it looks over the beach...

The Pantry catering to both locals and visitors Manly Beach. So close the water is less than 50 meters from the restaurant. In fact you will not find a closer dining spot unless you bring a picnic blanket and packed lunch. The Pantry with its rustic interior is set up for you to comfortably enjoy a meal whilst taking in the scenic Manly beach. Not at all pretencious, the staff are friendly and attentive adding the relaxed Australian manner to this beachside dining experience. We were here on a nice Autumn night with the soothing sound of the waves lapping against the shoreline. Why not order a drink with, a great range of beer spirits and cocktails, many classic cocktails on the menu with the Pantry adding their own touch beach side touch to the name of the cocktails. The cocktail of choice this evening was The Pantry version of an old fashioned named The Old South Steyne , South Steyn being the area in Manly which the restaurant is located. The perfect drink start for this occasion. A nice traditional old fashioned made using Makers Mark. The dinner menu has many options including tapas/small plates and mains, perfect for a relaxed catch up by the beach or special occasion. With a fair amount of deliberation the tapas/small plate menu took our fancy. With many tasty options available top of our list being at this beachside location was the seared yellow fin tuna served with a warm salad, a great dish using quality fresh tuna. The tasty garlic and chilli prawns served with a warm French baguette to soak up the garlic chilli oil also a good option. Ordering from the tapas menu we went with some classics being the grilled spanish chorizo, the charcutterie board a meat lovers dream and another seaside favourite being the grilled octopus. The beer battered zuccini flowers were ordered as we felt we were lacking in vegetables and lets face it, these crisp fried morsels are delicious. To finish we browsed the drink menu as well as the dessert menu and no better way to finish the meal than ordering a digestive or nice single malt from their great selection of whiskies and pairing it with one of their amazing desserts. The Laphraoig 15 perfectly matching with the rich chocolate mousse. My dining companion for the evening ordering the cheesecake, which I was informed was another great choice.

Best burger ever. I ordered a hamburger, it was the cheapest thing on the menu at $38 and some change. It was good. Worth the wait too. The fries were thick and hot. My only complaint was the lack of condiments.

Lovely French toast with roasted nuts, cream and ice cream.

Had a really lovely brunch. With brilliant service. The foods are well designed when it comes to taste and the portion sizes are good. Will definitely be back soon.

Went there for birthday dinner. Special atmosphere, delectable food. Arrived 15mina earlier than reservation but staff was very accommodating and still got us a really nice table. Yummy cocktails, delicious fresh seafood as well as steak dishes. Staff were very friendly and helpful in recommneding choices. The view overlooks the ocean at night and made our dinner very special. Price were very reasonable for what we received.

Over priced, the staff is a bit rude, and just ok food. The view is the main draw and the only reason to go there.

Perfect views of Manly Beach. The Barramundi grilled on a bed of greens with roasted tomatoes and asparagus and goat cheese was delicious.

The menu was primarily seafood, also not a surprise. I decided to order a salad, not really in the mood for seafood. There was roast cauliflower, steak, chicken Parmesan, and various pizzas in addition to fishy dishes. The place was also packed, so I was glad we got an outside table. I thought my salad was delicious. It had fennel and Parmesan cheese shavings over the greens. I don't know what the greens were, but everything went well together and it was a generous portion. I had second thoughts about salad when I saw the amazingly presented entrees my dining companions had selected. After starting out with a beautiful Bloody Mary, my daughter-in-law had a crumbed dory burger with chips(fries in the States). It had two fish patties coated in herbed crumbs and she said she almost always ordered it, it was so good. It looked delicious but I stuck with my salad. My son had beer-battered flathead fish and chips. It was perfect with crunchy, lightly browned coating covering flakey white fish. I snagged a few of his fries which were also perfect. Prices in restaurants are always higher than in the U.S., but how likely are we to find fish like dory or flathead on the menu? Additionally, waitstaff in Australia are paid a living wage and don't rely on tips.

Each dish was comprised of a perfect melding of ingredients and flavors, with the John Dory and the perfectly cooked lamb being particular standouts. The dessert--which was really three desserts on one plate-- was also outstanding. The wine list is a bit limited, but there are some gems such as Tyrell's Vat 47 Chardonnay. The only failing was the service, which although attentive missed a lot that you'd expect in this caliber of restaurant. Empty plates stayed on the table too long, and I think we must have requested our wine to be repoured at least a half dozen times. I wish restaurants would just leave the bottle at the table in the European style, as it would be better for both guest and server. Nevertheless, it was a fabulous dining experience, and perhaps my favorite restaurant experience other than Tetsuya in all of Sydney, so they are definitely knocking it out of the park here. Great restaurant.

Exceptional is how I would describe the Gantry in one word…read more In particular, the service was outstanding. The Gantry is located in the Pier One hotel. The 5 star hotel delivered top knotch 5 star service at the Gantry and throughout the hotel (I find that some 5 star / hatted restaurants do not quite deliver on the service front - but not with the Gantry!). After taking a leisurely stroll along the harbour on Walsh Bay, my dining partner and I arrived at the steps of the Pier One hotel for lunch. They say first impressions count, and I was wowed. We were greeted with friendly, genuine smiles upon arriving at the steps to the hotel, from the bell boys outside, door staff, conceirge and reception. The reception staff guided us to the restaurant. The hotel and restaurant are new, shieke, and have a vibe of understated luxury. The bathrooms even had a couch and a framed, wide floor to ceiling mirror! The restaurant staff were just as friendly, and extremely attentive and polite. We were sat right next to the harbour on a table on the outside section of the restaurant (on the wharf) straight away. Our waitress was lovely. No request was too much - from asking for a cocktail list when the bar was not open, to requesting the sun-shade to be raised up so that we could get a better view of the harbour. The food and drinks were outstanding - especially the mains! We had: - Salmon gravlax and grapefruit entree - extremely fresh, clean taste. I'm salivating thinking about this dish. The novelty of the dish was that the grapefruit was the same colour as the salmon so you wouldn't know if you had a piece of fish or grapefruit until you eat it or inspect it closely. - Scallops (one with coconut and lemongrass, one with ginger and soy sauce) - average. - Grilled garlic butter prawns - average. - Fish and chips main - the BEST fish and chips I've ever had, hands down. My dining partner had the same thought. The fish was very fresh, perfectly cooked, the batter was crispy and airy at the same time. The chips were fat, a little bit like potato wedges, and were seasoned just the right amount. The crisp on the chip was just right. I'd given up all hopes in finding fish and chips I actually like - and to my surprise, I found it when I wasn't looking for it! People say that certain beachside kiosks / cafes have the best fish and chips and I've been disappointed every time. Now this truly is the best fish and chips I've ever had!!! - Duck breast steak main - juicy, tender duck, and the vegetables, seasoning and sauce made the dish taste delicious. - Sourdough bread with butter - good, but not amazing. Unfortunately, we didn't leave enough room for dessert. Prices are very reasonable considering the location, service, quality of food and ambience. We were so impressed by the Gantry that my dining partner promised a return trip on the spot! This is definitely somewhere I could go again and again.

This was the most highly rated restaurant in Surry Hills, and it exceeded all expectations. I cannot say enough great things about the duck slow cooked in plum sauce. We enjoyed a handful of their appetizers (oyster shooters, mini pancakes with crème fresh, etc), all of which were incredible. Very grateful to our waiter for being so helpful with menu suggestions and accommodating one of the guests with a more complicated food palette. The ambience inside was intimate with low warm lightly. The music was classy and not too loud. Such a beautiful and memorable space.
