I passed by this dog friendly square several times walking to the downtown area and catching metro lines. Dedicated in April of 1881 the 10' foot bronze statue is in honor of David Glasgow Farragut (1801-1870), the first Admiral of the U.S. Navy, famous for his role in the Civil War. The material is from his flagship propeller the USS Hartford . Vinnie Ream, the artist was the first woman to receive a commission for a statue from the U.S. government. The statue is 10 feet in height and scenic from many streets. The Tatte bakery has a perfect view of the square with its freshly planted spring flowers and is a perfect location for people watching. So, grab a pastry and latte and enjoy this historical sight. read more

The park's not what it was -- wow. I'm shocked at its lack of maintenance. It used to be a nice area to sit and have a snack or two. This is a terrific park and great location. During warmer months, there are food trucks and on Fridays, the city sets up games and fun activities. I like these small cool parks in DC. This is yet another one. Farragut Square Park is located in a bustling area. It feels like a sense of calm. There's also lots of interesting restaurants and stores. Even though it's pretty small, there's a lot of interesting history about the creation. It has a big statue in the middle like many other parks around here. Like many of DC's older parks, it's named after a war hero. David Farragut was an admiral. Of his many accomplishments he played an important part in the Civil War. His biggest accomplishment was being the first admiral in the Navy. Thanks to reading up on him I found out it was him who came up with "Damn the Torpedos." It may be a small park but there's a lot to do here. The park is named for Admiral David Farragut, a Union admiral in the American Civil War famous for his quote "damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!" In the center of the park is a statue honoring Admiral Farragut, a career officer who served as the first admiral in the United States Navy. The statue was cast from the bronze propellers of the USS Hartford, a ship under Farragut's command. Actually, the statue is kind of a big deal as it's the first monument erected in Washington DC in honor of somebody from the United States Navy. According to Wikipedia (so it must be true...), government employees from throughout Washington were let out of work at noon on the day the statute was dedicated. Farragut Square is the cornerstone of the City's "Golden Triangle District" and a real jewel for this city. In the spring, summer and fall, there's no better place in all of Washington for people watching. One of the nicest parks in the Washington metropolitan area, Farragut Square is home to about a dozen or so of the city's best food trucks. Anyway, a cool place to spend your lunch hour or to add to your list of things to see on your next trip to the DC area. If you do visit, jump up and down and wave, as my office overlooks the park and I'm bound to see you. I promise to wave back! read more

Farragut Square park is a beautiful park stationed between two Metro stations-Farragut north and Farragut west. In the center of the park is a statue to Admiral Farragut and nearby a description about him. Benches align throughout the park. I wasn't aware that they had food trucks in this area since each time my husband and I went through it or passed it there was hardly anyone there. There was a panhandler trying to bother me but I just shrugged him off. I'm always intrigued by how the Metro stops get their names being from out of town so I enjoy checking out the area whenever the opportunity provides me with that option. It appears to be in the heart of a business district from what I could gather. Located not far from the National Geographic Museum it makes a nice place to stop and unwind. read more

In days gone by, I would have given this park two stars (or maybe one). It's not the most beautiful patch of urban green space, with little in the way of beautiful flowers or interesting greenery or historic landmarks for photo opportunities. It's small, and mostly it seems like filler in an area of downtown that's just office buildings and fast casual lunch places. Especially on the weekends, it's dead. However, the food truck scene is truly bustling during weekday afternoons. Sometimes, every side of the park is parked with food trucks of a bunch of different cuisines: Indian, Japanese, American, Middle Eastern. And the business improvement district has started using the park space for cool interactive events, like outdoor workout classes. They're been putting out tables and chairs during peak lunchtimes, too, so you don't need to grab your food truck fare and run. And there's a scattering or benches along the walkways so you can almost always find a spot to sit and enjoy the sunshine (or shade from the trees). Basically, in the past year or two, it's become a more fun and useful little park area. read more

Farragut Square Park is one of many green spaces maintained by the National Park Service within DC. It is also home to one of 18 (or more) Civil War monuments in DC. The centerpiece of the park is a statue of Admiral Farragut. Admiral David G. Farragut was a true patriot and the first Admiral of the Navy. He first saw combat at the age of 9 during the War of 1812. He fought off pirates in the West Indies and went mano a mano in the Mexican-American War. As if that wasn't enough, despite being a southerner, he remained true to the United States and fought for the union during the Civil War. He is famous for saying, ""Damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead!" What a guy! But, I'm sure that is not what people think of when the think of Farragut Square Park. Farragut Square Park is most closely associated with the weekday food trucks that park along 17th St. NW to feed hungry office workers. (The park actually lies between the opposing lanes of 17th St. NW so its 17th St. NW on both sides of the park. Since the park is a square (rectangle) it is also bordered by K and I (eye) Sts. NW.) There are a variety of food trucks and they seem to vary day-to-day. At the very least, they park in different spots each day so finding your favorite can turn into a scavenger hunt. Many office works from the surrounding commercial area grab their lunch and then enjoy it on a park bench. Some of the food trucks are just average so it might be worth checking Yelp to find a really food one, or just go where there is a long line. The park is located within what is called the "Golden Triangle" which is the heart of DC's business district. Golden Triangle has an association/management company that offers special events in this area including events at Farragut Square Park like yoga, movies and concerts. I have not attended a special event first hand but I think it is worth looking into if you work in the area. Like many green spaces in DC, I suspect this park has a different vibe during the day than at night. During the day its full of people in business attire eating $12 lunches but at night I suspect it is a hangout for some of DC's homeless population. Farragut Square Park is probably not a destination but if you want to get to this area there are two Metro Stations close by - Farragut North (Red Line) and Farragut West (Orange, Silver and Blue). There are many bus lines serving the square too. I suspect this area is a ghost town on the weekends and many eateries are probably closed as they primarily cater to the high rise office buildings. read more

4 stars for a solid downtown DC park. While DC has several "square parks" in the downtown DC area, they can be hit or miss. Farragut Square Park, which is sandwiched between K and I street along with 17th street addresses on both the east and west side somehow, is one of the nicer ones in the area. There are a few features that make this a good park. The first feature is that it has 2 metro stops (Farragut North and Farragut West) for the park, which provides lots of ways to get to and from the area (as well as traffic going to and through the park). If you get to the park around lunch time, another great feature is that a ton of food trucks park around the park, which allows for a wide range of fun and interesting options. If you aren't feeling like food truck cuisine, you can head a block or two in pretty much any direction and hit a ton of restaurants. One of the other great features about this park is how close it is to other big ticket Washington places. Whether it is the White House a couple blocks to the south or GW a few blocks to the east, the fact that Farragut is so centrally located makes it a great place to start touring the non-monuments part of the city. Additionally, the park is relatively clean and safe (at least compared to some of the other parks), so you can even take a rest on the bench as you plan the rest of your day. Overall, Farragut Square Park is a solid park in a central location with lots of good features. read more

If you want to see the world pass you by, then grab your food from one of the 20 food trucks on Fridays surrounding this park, take a seat and watch the show. It really is neat watching everything going on at one. It has the historical significance too. The name sake of the Farragut Square is after David Farragut who was a prominent Union Navy Admiral. The statue in the center is that of the admiral dedicated in 1881. All of this info is provided via a park sign in the park. I happened to enjoy dining on my cheese steak sandwich along with a few other patrons on the bottom of the statue that is actually fenced in. It was pretty amusing seeing all the girls including myself trying to get over the fence gracefully with out dresses on. I was lucky i didn't get my snagged like I saw a couple of other people suffer from. The square is fairly large. It is situated in the middle of the bustling businesses and commercial district. Primal for watching the time pass by when having fun. The park does empty out pretty quickly during the evening hours. However, during the summer months they have tried to add some evening activities such as the free "Farragut Sounds in the Square" jazz concert series, held every Thursday from noon to 2 p.m. from July 3th to August 19th. I have yet to experience this, but definitely plan to once that time rolls around. I really like this park! Though it has nothing much else beyond a few benches and a statue, it is smack dab in the middle of everything to get a full panoramic of the cityscape. read more

On a lovely summer day, you will see the park packed with people from nearby work establishments having lunch and pigeons looking for left-overs. The park is a major stop for food trucks so it makes for a good spot to pick up and eat lunch. During winters, food trucks are few and so are people. I have been working in this area for three years, and it continues to be an awesome lunch spot. This park is a hot spot for food trucks to park along during lunch hours (typically around 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM)... and oh boy does it get busy! There are plenty of two-seating benches, plenty of grass, and even the statue itself to sit on while eating. Golden Triangle occasionally does things on the park, such as setting up outdoor office space, providing free Wi-Fi, giant Legos, ping pong... free yoga, movies... it's really nice. The trees only provide so much shade -- if you care more about that, walk over to Franklin Square. read more

I had the pleasure of working in the Farragut area for a while, and I spent as much time as I could in this park. It has tons of benches, greenery, paths that cut through it going to any destination you'd like, and of course: FOOD TRUCKS! (well probably not so much in the cold months). It's a great spot to grab a bite to eat or sit down and enjoy your own. Also, it is a fabulous spot to people-watch! Especially in the summertime when you can view hoards of tourists zipping about here and there, constantly looking at a map on their iPhone and trying to be discrete about it! Farragut Square park is a small park between the Farragut North and West metro stops. While it seems to mostly get visited when people want lunch from a food truck, I had fun attending one of the Friday night movies! I have also seen a 5:00 yoga class there as well. So there seems to be a lot of activity for such a small park! The only downside is this is a busy intersection so it is loud with lots of car and street lights. read more

At lunch time during the week you can find various food trucks but they're hit or miss. One of DCs many small parks perfect for a stop to enjoy a little green lawn before heading back into a building. While walking through earlier I saw a group practicing yoga. This square is just north and slightly west of the White House. One should take time to stroll in their surroundings once in a while rather than always having a destination and an immediate objective to achieve. read more

Besides crossing through here when going to or from either Farragut metro station, I've been coming here for the Golden Triangle Bid's Pilates in the Park. They manage to hold a one hour workout class in one of the grassy areas of the park as commuters are heading home. The area itself has some greenery, intersecting paths, and benches if you just want to take in the area and/or people watch. Probably not the most relaxing spot in DC, but a nice break area in the midst of the K Street hustle and bustle. read more
