The estimate was $2700.00 for which he requested half as a down payment. I would pay for the doors and vanity. The assistant took measurements and told me what doors to order on Home Depot's sight. The front door had to be special ordered and the expected arrival date was the first week in January. Jay agreed to pick up both doors from Home Depot. I gave him a check for $1350.00. We also discussed the installation of a backdoor. The estimate was $6000.00 and he requested a down payment of $4000.00. I gave him a check for $4000.00. He agreed to do the job on Jan 08.2020. Sometime between Christmas and New Years, Jay called me to tell me that he was bringing some supplies over that he would leave in my driveway covered with a tarp. I told him that I wanted to speak about the work that was going to be done and I wanted a contract. He never showed up. A few days after New Year's Jay called to find out if we were still on for the 8th. I postponed the day because the front door was not yet at Home Depot. I gave him the order number of the doors at Home Depot and he said that he would pick them up. He did not pick them up when he said that he would. Several days later he texted me that he had picked up the doors and he had left them in the backyard. After some misunderstandings about when the work would be done, he scheduled Friday January 17th at 7:30 AM. He did not show up until almost 9. He was alone. He told me that he would have to "pull some guys" to do the work and that it was very cold and it would take 4 hours. He texted me later to tell me that he was pulling some guys and he gave me his word that he would be at my house at 12:45. Around 1:30, he showed up with two men who told me they didn't work for him directly. They went in the backyard and discovered that the wrong door was ordered. I told Jay that it was his guy who told me what to order and he was standing right next to me when I chose the door. He said that he had just fired him. He told me that he would send over some other guys to take the door back to Home Depot. That is when I told him to forget it and that I wanted my money back. He said he would bring me a check by Wednesday (01/22). I texted him on Wednesday and called him and he did not respond. I texted him again on Thursday and he responded that he would drop it off that day. I told him to keep $350.00 for picking up the doors so I expected a check for $5000.00. He never showed up and did not answer his phone or respond to texts. Finally on Thursday night he delivered a check to an intermediary. The check was dated with Saturday's date. On 01/29. my bank informed me that the check bounced and I was charged $12.00. Texted Jay with no response. On Saturday 02/01 he texted that there was a fraud on his bank and he had to open a new account and that he would deliver a cashier's check during the week. No check and no word from Jay. My lawyer will handle it now.
