I used the Yelp App to locate a place to recycle a 65" Flat Screen Samsung TV that had quit. I did…read morenot want to just throw it in the landfill. The App sent out two requests under the projects program for responses. Within 24 hours I received two excellent responses that fit my needs. The first was a local nonprofit recycling center with 6 miles. The other was Total Reclaim. Total Reclaim operates a recycling business that accepts on site delivery of recycling products including TV's and other electronics. I consulted their website for details and location and they were 50 miles away. They also have a pickup service in their local area but only rarely in my area. They do charge fees for their services. I choose the local facility because of closeness and smaller fees. It cost me just $7 to recycle the 100 pound TV. I encourage people to use the services of Total Recall when needed. The Anchorage Landfill operates a limited recycling program at the main landfill in Eagle River. It accepts glass which the MatSu Borough Landfill will not. They also accept hazardous materials but I am unsure about electronics. Check the websites for ALL locations to get details and costs concerning their individual operations. I encourage everyone to use the recycling programs to reduce waste, contamination and pollution.

This store popped up and we decided to stop by. FYI there is a coffee/soda shop next door (another review for that place also done). This store was in a plaza, plenty of parking spots. At first entrance once inside, it looks tiny and the way things are set up, I was thinking that prices were going to be expensive. Don't be fooled, it may look small but there are a lot of great finds. This particular store is focused on women clothing, accessories and some home knick knacks. There is also another FashionPact that is HUGE and has kids and mens clothing, books, home goods, etc... But back to this location...everything is organized by sizes, they are inclusive and also have a plus section. FashionPact has a section by the front door that features items that they have posted on their social media accounts. If you fell in love with the item, you can come into the store and purchase or also they can ship the item to you. Check out their accounts to get details. At first, you think this is like all other thrift stores but two cool things that make their store stand out. They have dynamic pricing. You see the price of the item listed at the top of the tag, then if the item is not sold by the date listed, the price is reduced. If the item is still not sold, then the third price listed is the final purchase price. Such a simple concept, but it made me realize that their purpose is to sell merchandise and leave space available for new donations. Plus, in selling then money could be donated which brings me to the second cool thing about this store. As a buyer, you can pick which local organization gets a percentage of your total purchase. If you donate clothes, you also get to choose. Shopping and choosing where to donate makes you feel good. They have a screen at the top of the register that shows the local organizations, but if you want to know more about the groups, they have an iPad next to the register so you can read more about the groups. They have the organizations divided by categories such as, animals, arts, education, etc. There are so many choices and all groups are local! How awesome is this! If you are not too busy shopping, all throughout the store, you can spot the thank you cards/letters/drawings from these organizations for the donations. I went twice, back to back to this location and got so many good deals. Scratch that, steals. Good clothing and accessories for under $10, but most were under $5. My brag from this store was a Columbia pink fleece zip up jacket with tags for $5, wow!!!!!! The other items that I also purchased were used but in excellent condition or with tags. The sales associate was sorting through donations and when I came back the next day, there was a lot of new items in my size section. SOOOOOOO sad that there is not a store like this in the Bay Area. I did tell them they should open one up and they said that they have friends in SF that have told them the same thing. Sadly, rent would be a killer around here. Staff was so nice. I know this place is not touristy but for sure this is a dream store for any thrift store lover. I joked that I could come to Anchorage with an empty luggage and challenge my self to only use clothes bought from any of the FashionPact locations. If you live in the area, lucky you. Stop and donate or shop, you will be helping the local community.

It's a nice boutique and everything is sorted by garment type and size. There is a fitting room for patrons to try on outfits and good music to keep you in a good mood. Pricing is very fair and there's two prices listed on each tag. After a certain date the price cuts to half. On my visit my mom and I were able to snag a couple of half priced items and two full priced ones, which was still a steal. My coat was $10, blouse $5, and I think my mom got two wrap dresses, and a blazer with everything being under $50. Now if that doesn't make you feel great the proceeds go towards a charity in Alaska and you can pick which one your purchases goes towards. We chose the zoo and hope everyone will go support this little shop when visiting Anchorage.

I needed some signage (a LOT of signage) in a bind and they got it done, just when they said they would, and for cheaper than anyone else in town! Really, what more could you want? I've since used them 3 additional times and I always get the same impeccable service and lightning-fast email replies. They will try to believe me so that's why I came here for an advocate they call a parent navigator. The parent navigator was very sweet and meant well, but I felt more lost than ever in these huge round table IEP meetings. If you don't know what to ask for or how to word the IEP, the school makes suggestions that benefit them. Our navigator just sat there and didn't say a word. She was more of a witness than anything. I needed someone to...navigate so it was frustrating. That's why this review is missing a star. I stopped using them shortly after that. Fast forward to this year. I decided to use them again because finding a non profit can be daunting. This time I was trying to obtain an ISW waver for my daughter which she had previously been denied when she needed it the most. This is where this agency shines. They hooked me up with a great guy named Thomas that gave us the referral we needed. He wrote up an awesome report that helped with all of the other information gathered to successfully obtain the waver my daughter needed for these extra services. I cannot tell you how his help managed to lift the anvil off of my shoulders I had been carrying around for many years. It was quick, professional and he definitely knows what he's doing. I haven't met all of the people that work for SSG, but Thomas is definitely my favorite I highly recommend SSG and Thomas specifically if you are needing a waver. They also have activities we haven't done yet but are highly looking forward to in the future. Keep up the great work! It's nice to work with someone highly suited for and passionate about their job!

The old man employee who blocked us in said we were parked in his spot, that he PURPOSELY blocked us in due to this, and he even acknowledged that there is no signage to mark these spots! He was acting as though we were just supposed to know that it was employee parking. Yet he was still very rude and would refuse to acknowledge he had down anything wrong. I had been here years ago. It's basically a non profit thrift store with a twist as they have a workshop in the back that they make items and repurpose hence the name re:Made. Hollea, when I arrived showed me more minerals she had received from a donated estate and I took pics to show Judy and we researched and through texts we negotiated and I came back next day to purchase several more. They have glassware, paintings, posters, jewelry, books, lots of thrifty items. Everyone that works there is a volunteer and everyone is very friendly. Check them out.

There are a couple negative reviews on here that lack context and full understanding. ASPCA is a no-kill nonprofit run by a small but dedicated staff, with some help from volunteers. They care a lot about the animals, and yes that means occasionally rejecting applications. I'm sure that is not a fun part of the job, but the process is there with the best interest of the animals in mind. If you do happen to come in and aren't immediately greeted by one of the people you see, keep in mind it might be someone doing their first day as a volunteer! The adorable cats and dogs here are well taken care of by a nice staff that really just wants to see them go to a good home. If you love animals and have the right home and schedule, consider adopting or fostering!

By the way, free food is given between 12noon and 2pm. Remember, you had better not be in a hurry/rush, they have two speeds, slow and reverse.
