Dropping a star because of prices. It really annoys me lol. Today in the arts stuff they had a pack of Crayola markers, they looked brand new but I didn't investigate. 10 pack and they were $6! You can buy them at target for 3.99. They should be 2 dollars here. In the housewares, they had a bunch of sili pint glasses. Two were from octopus ink and they retail for $16. One cup was marked 7.99, that's doable. U fortunately I had that one already. The one I didn't have was marked $15.99! A used cup should be cheaper than what you pay the small business. The pricing here is ridiculous. Get kids books, chapter books, or cookbooks. Some clothing is doable, some sweatshirts are priced high. You should never pay $20 for a used shirt. The toys often are filthy dirty, broken, and they don't come with all the pieces. Go elsewhere for kids toys(Once upon) I did find a kids learning tower for $25 when they go for 80-100 online. You have to be smart with what you buy but whoever is in charge of pricing needs to start paying attention. read more

There is a woman working here named CANDI that shouldn't be dealing with customers whatsoever. I waited over 20 minutes at the locked jewelry counter, while she ignored me and did not ask for assistance for me. She helped over 15 customers while I stood there, she even helped a man (who was not shopping) outside of the line to go to the bathroom before acknowledging me. I asked for assistance again, I was met with attitude unlike all of the other customers I had watched her help. She said "you are going to wait awhile" and continued on helping people who got in line after I had already been waiting 25 minutes. I was helped finally by a different team member. Since CANDI was the only person to check out, she gave me the silent treatment, extremely cold, and the only time she spoke to me was to ask for my money, and didn't even say thank you / goodbye / have a nice day, nothing and had no acknowledgment to me at all. She was extremely rude to me, while I watched her help 25 people with friendliness. I've been shopping at this location for 15 years and have never had a bad experience. I have spent thousands of dollars here, and my experience today makes me never want to return. read more

What happened to this place? To start, the stocking is minimal at best, with 90% of the shelves being barely stocked, with stuff seemingly thrown in at random. A very, very loose sense of "organized". The pricing is laughable- Target dollar section items marked up for double what the Target price tags (which they didn't bother to remove) are asking for. Items are dirty and some are broken, there just doesn't seem to be any sort of vetting process for them what gets put out on the floor and what gets thrown away. There was a bottle of urine on the shelf with the dvds, and the entire corner reeked of piss. Tried to tell an employee but couldn't even find one to tell. I say this as someone who loves thrifting, and is willing to put up with a lot when thrifting if the price is right- skip it. read more

Some people might not know that if they only go to Value Village because money is tight. People are being taken advantage of here. They also have a color each week that's 50 percent off . I come when I need a quirky item. This year it was the Ugly Sweater Christmas party and they had like 4 racks. Oh yeah I got a lighted sweater this year! Judy's i found was actually nice. I've also come here for adventure clothes ... we were going quad riding on a tour up the Bird Creek trails bear watching and hiking to a salmon pool and waterfall and we needed something lightweight that could get muddy so we bought cheap windbreakers and light nylon pants. One of the places I usually go to when checking out vinyl records, this Value Village is located directly across from the Dimond Center Mall next to the train tracks on Dimond Blvd. Parking here is usually packed throughout the day and any day for the month of October is no exception with Halloween around the corner. This store remains one of the most popular destinations for getting costumes at a decent price. The employees are friendly but they are constantly busy at the front registers. You would get a better chance for help on the floor once the lines at the front die down. The store itself is well-maintained with the exception of the clothing area towards the end of the day when it would be like any department store at the close of business. The reason I gave this place two stars and no higher is the fact that vinyl records are priced at $2 each when other secondhand stores would sell them as low as 99 cents apiece. The selections are hit or miss. It all depends on what comes in every week if any arrive at all. Most of the records are usually in good condition as well as the album covers, but buyers need to be aware that not every cover has the correct record in it. I came across this a couple of times just before going to the front to make a purchase. There are also some instances where you may find a popular album on vinyl for a lot less than Best Buy or Barnes & Noble only to find out the record is missing or misplaced in another sleeve. It would help if the employees would put those aside rather than leave them on the selling floor. read more

I tried to return an item at the Value Village on Dimond today that I bought at the Northern Lights store. I didn't realize when I bought it that it wasn't useable. I honestly did not know that I couldn't return a non clothing item with a receipt, The manager who I initially talked to was horribly rude! I think her name is Jerilyn. . She sneered and told me I couldn't return the item! She looked at me like I was dirt underneath her feet.I pointed out that it was defective and I just would like a store credit. She said, I will make an exception for you this one time! She said come back to the register with your exchange items. I picked out 2 skirts for the exchange and left the store. I am following up with corporate management with a complaint. There's absolutely no reason to treat a customer like she treated me. read more

Always "no one is avaliable to check you out" but there's someone there to micromanage ME checking out. The prices are outrageous and do no represent the amount of work that's going into the store. I like this Value Village. As with all Value Villages, they charge just way too damn much for used clothing. 50 bucks for a used coat is ridiculous, buuuuuuuut, as with all thrift shops, you CAN score. Like a big ole bag of cookie cutters for 2 bucks? Yes please! And this is the BEST location for cheap Halloween costumes in Anchorage. They go all-out every year with the Halloween section. The store manager must have a fetish for the holiday, because their selection is always awesome. They even carry plus-sized thigh highs for holiday. They barely carry those at the Halloween store, so that's really saying something. They also usually have a good selection of boots at this location as well. Rarely do they have any furniture or good housewars though. All in all, a good thrift shop relative to the other places in town. read more

Ok, i am finally forced to add a review. I'm being WAY too kind by giving them 4 stars, but as i go back every Sunday, obviously i must like the place despite it's deficiencies. I really dislike the way you pay massive amounts for stuff they got donated for nothing - it's not like they donate all their proceeds to a registered Charity. I was a Volunteer manager in a REAL Charity store in my home town, all the staff were volunteers, and every cent of what was made went to a Hospice (obviously we paid the overheads and such, but nothing was profit) Expect to pay a lot for name branded purses, Native Crafted items, Furs, Shoes. Bargains can be scored - mainly when someone who works in pricing, is unfamiliar with a designer, and a purse or blouse or something that should have cost more "slipped through the net" so to speak. Those types of bargains give me such a hit of adrenaline, and keep me going back for more. (Once i got a Christian Dior purse, that looked like a fake bit of nothing much for 4.99, got it home, investigated further, found it was real, and there were several on EBay for hundreds of bucks) I regularly buy things like silk flowers, crafting items, used nail polishes, tee shirts, skirts, pants, dresses etc - things like that are reasonably priced. But i really object to paying 40-50+ bucks for a used purse, that they got for nothing. And you also used to get a $3 voucher when you donated stuff - that's not a thing anymore, so i rarely donate stuff here, i take it to Goodwill instead. Shoes have increased in price recently too, seriously VV? And my main peeve is the bathroom. It is horrible. It stinks. The floor is always wet, dirty, and draped in swathes of wet TP. Your employees get paid, and so this should be regularly maintained. I went in it today, one of the toilet rolls was empty, it stunk, and there was a pube on the toilet seat. Also, the hand drier is antique, and blows a warm breath of air at your hands. With all the money you are clearly making, this bathroom could really do with an upgrade. At the very least, please consider cleaning it more often, and more thoroughly. I will of course, continue to shop here - the staff are always pleasant, and I've seen them respond very nicely to really rude and aggressive behavior from customers, and thats why i gave 4 instead of 3 stars. read more

I shop at VV at least two times a week,I love the customer service and the weekly deals.Its always clean and organized and easy to find what you're looking for. I have never left this store without a huge smile on my face. I cannot put into words how amazing Patrick is, he is one of the managers. That's him down there . He is the handsome fellow wearing the black shirt and great smile . He is the person who makes things happen, if you need anything he has your answers. Remember, this place is a for profit business. So think twice before you donate. They do support non-profits, but if you want to really make a difference you might consider donating at a Salvation Army or Goodwill. There's a good selection of clothing and housewares. They only offer a senior discount once a week on Tuesdays. Like most thrift stores the selection is only as good as donations and good stuff goes fast. This store has a person who is good with costume jewelry. The counter there is well organized, lit and stocked. Fun! read more

Great place to destash and take your gently used belongings. Easy drive up to the donation area. You can ask for a donation receipt (great for tax deductions) and you get a card good for up to 30% off purchases inside the store. This trip I found loads of like-new paperbacks in the murder/mystery section, perfect for my next long flight. There were glass pot & pan lid covers- if only I had brought measurements with me; they were $1.99 each. Continues to be a great place to check for those odd items you need. read more

I like shopping at thrift stores and this is one that is close to my house. I would shop there more but I find that this is to be one of the more sloppier thrift stores. To be honest, the place always stinks, it's usually crowded, the clothes are overpriced and the staff is rude. Occasionally you'll find that one cashier who is trying her best to be polite, despite the circumstances she works in. The managers are ignorant, even if there are 10 people standing in the only cashier line open, they'll go take their "smoke break" without even considering that the customers are getting impatient. This is a hit and miss thrift store when it comes to clothes, but I would much rather go to the other Value Village across town then shop at this store. The company needs to seriously consider their management and take appropriate measures to clean the place up. read more

Really though, go easy with that price gun little fellah. Also, since you refuse to sell me items somebody ripped the price tag off of, you should have staff more regularly scan the items on the floor for missing tags, there's always a bunch! This Value Village has a fair selection of items, but they seem to be a bit overpriced at times. Asking $20 for a doll that isn't in the package and that is put in the toy section seems a bit much. Also their clothing is a hit or miss sometimes. They used to ask as much as $30 for Harley Davidson shirts and now you can find them for as low as $3.99. I really enjoy going in there mainly because the staff makes you feel welcomed and they know me and greet me like I'm a friend. If you donate to them they used to have a donation card that would get you as much as 30% off depending on how much you donate, and didn't expire until the end of the year so you could keep donating and getting punches until you reached the 30% or just use it at 10,20 or even 25%. Now you have to get it to 30% before it can be used and it expires the same month that you get it, does not make sense. I have shopped here for 18yrs and the building has went through some renovations recently and it made it look brighter and cleaner. The clothing racks are pushed together so close that the kids clothing aisles can you have one way traffic but it's probably cause they get so much in they want to put it out. They are always featuring a color tag that is 50% off for the week so you can find some good deals that way. They used to do .99 Monday where the color tag of the previous week would be .99 for whatever was left. I really miss that and they would probably get rid of more stuff if they would bring that back, but what can you do. I will continue to shop here because I like the staff and sometimes you can find a good item or "treasure" as they say. read more

It's a thrift store, and for that, it's kind of pricy. It used to be kind of awesome, as all of the clothes were arranged by style, size, and color, so if you needed to find a size medium long sleeved red shirt, they were all grouped together, and you could just go through all of the medium long sleeved red shirts and find the one you liked best. They seem to have abandoned this policy, which was the only thing that made it stand out from the other thrift stores in town, so now it's just overpriced. read more

I have a love hate relationship with this store. There was a painting donated to valley village, myself and daughter are lovers or art. They had the picture marked as $80, I find the ridiculously expensive for something GIVEN to them. I looked at the painting for over 3 months, I was there yesterday and it is still there and $80. I asked to speak to a manager about the price every time I went to see if the painting was there. She finally told me she would give me 20% off of the piece. Honestly, I was going to paint over what was on the painting with my daughter as piece we made together. The manager still works there and so is the painting. I understand it is a business, however, 3 months later the painting still hasn't sold and she still refused to go down on the price. I'm just disappointed. It was a simple request and I don't feel I'm asking too much for them to lower the price a little on something that has been freely given to them and has been on the shelf for 3 or more months. I give the store a 3, management and her negotiation skills zero. I have also donated at least 60 times since I have lived in anchorage. Obviously, I will not be donating or going to that location again. Flat out rip off. I can't express how unprofessional the manger was, even rolled her eyes at me. Thanks! I love being disrespected by a random manager at a thrift store. Don't bother asking her for help you will just be bothering her. read more

Small store but nice staff and selection. Items were priced a bit high but I did find several that were worth it. For example they had used bra's for $20++. Since everything they have is there by donation I figured it would be cheaper even with their profit margin. Better than the Value Village on Northern Lights though!!! read more
