It was our first date. Too poor and studenty to go somewhere nice we settled on Fasta Pasta.
Our food was tasty and the service was prompt, but the real trouble occurred when we ordered a garlic bread to share.
Actually, it occurred a few minutes later when three slices of garlic bread came out. Is Fasta Pasta a popular place for a ménage à trois? If they expect one person to eat two pieces and the other just one, they have obviously missed that we now live in a time of equality, and you can hardly short change her on garlic bread and expect to split the bill. Or do they want people to recreate a "Lady and the Tramp" moment with baked goods despite an apparent surplus of pasta?
Thus, amidst the inherent awkwardness of the first date we were faced with a near insurmountable problem.
But unlike the old lady you pushed away to get that last seat on the life boat, there is a good chance she will survive to tell tales of your infamy. It occurred to me that 'three' was far from being a magic number, but rather a curse, like the prime number of Tim Tams in the pack encouraging someone to eat the whole packet alone in the interest of obesity and diabetes.
