Fat Frank's Steaks & Shakes is an American-style diner that opened a little more than a year ago along the main road of Dona Soledad in Bicutan, Paranaque. It looks pretty small on the outside, but there's a decent sized dining area inside.
It doesn't look like much at first glance, but since Fat Frank's is located outside Paranaque Doctors Hospital, the place has developed a fixed clientele of doctors, nurses and hospital staff, as well as transient customers that should guarantee that it will be around for a while.
Me and my family have been going there pretty regularly, either to dine in or to take home any of their specials.
Oddly enough, one of their top sellers is their nacho plate which can be a full meal in itself. For this appetizer, the serving is American-sized and the taste isn't bad at all.
The place tries and generally succeeds in recreating the ambiance of a typical US diner with its '50s theme and "American" food like burgers and hotdog plates with fries which go well with milk shakes.
Jackets from LPs from that era also adorn the walls. For those who don't have a clue, LPs are long-playing records made of vinyl that were rendered obsolete, first by cassettes, then by CDs, then by MP3s.
For smokers, Fat Frank's has several tables and chairs outside, which also serves as a one-car garage for the owner presumably. Parking may be limited, but then Paranaque Doctors has a pretty large parking area that's guarded 24/7. Just pretend that you're visiting a patient at the hospital to avail of free parking, but of course I didn't tell you that. On a good day or night, there are parking slots in the adjoining businesses and they don't mind your using them, especially at the close of their business hours. read more
