Most people, especially parents, will come here to watch their children play their school matches during the summer though. The stadium has a capacity of 510 seats, which are covered. During the week, there are usually amateur matches being played on the pitch and those are great fun to watch. There are also fun leagues, which people can join.

I've seen a few of their matches, and because it's Rugby they're great fun to watch and support is always welcome. Even though at this time of year it's pretty darn cold when you're standing around for close to 2 hours watching the lads in their shorts, so you might want to wear a lot of layers. The club is hard to miss, being right at Merrion Road, and it's also easy to get to by bus or DART. The clubhouse is warm and welcoming and the club organises a few events a year as well. The grounds were also used by the Australian National team for training when they were here for the Autumn Internationals, and the club also opens up their parking lot during the day for people working in the area or visiting the RDS.

Merrion is a fantastic club which has a real family feel about it where the members couldn't be more welcoming. I joined the club as a kid despite having no connections with the club and have been playing there for 18 years now. When I first arrived there the other members, young and old, were pleasant and inviting and immediately made me feel at home, so much so that I now wouldn't even consider playing for other club. In terms of the facilities they are up there with the best you are likely to find. In terms of the practice facilities and the setting Merrion really cannot be beaten (there is nowhere in Dublin better for a pint on a sunny day). While there have been issues with the square since it was relaid a few years ago, there have been drastic improvements in the quality of the wickets over the last couple of years thanks to the tireless work of the groundsman. Overall it's a fantastic and welcoming club with a real family atmosphere. The fact that the club has the biggest membership of any cricket club in the country is testament to that.

Well, this opinion/review is objective as I am a big fan of basketball. How ever, NBA (National Basketball Arena, did they name is on purpose regarding NBA - the National Basketball Association in USA?) is nice regarding flexibility. It can be transformed into two smaller courts and into big one. In a big court it can then pull out seats from the sides. Even so, there are TOO MANY like from various games on the floor, which makes very confusing to play ANY sort of game.

I had heard…read moresome great reviews of a 'night at the dogs' and was keen to try it out, so when I had to go about organising a night out for the office a few months ago we opted for The Shelbourne Park. We went for the option that included entry and dinner and we were seated at a long table in a kind of a restaurant that over looks the dog track. If there were more of us we could've had our own private room but alas, we were just a small group of 10. It was still really fun though. We kept putting on small bets like €2 and I got UBER excited if my dog came even close to winning. What a thrill! The food was good too and the service was excellent.

The food was pretty crap for the price- a steep 4.50 for a handful of chips and 4 goujons. to niggle just a little more, the off-brand ketchup and mayonnaise were a bit rough to my heinz-treated palate. The dog racing was enjoyable however, despite pretty variable luck in the betting arena. the track is raised almost to eye level, which means you can get super close to the dogs if thats your thing. It was pretty great to watch the three totes bet employees get bombarded by rapidfire Italian tourist questions after every race, hats off to them. The fact that the races are on three times a week makes them seem a bit less special, which is reflected in the garb of the attendees. for a bit of fun on a weeknight, it definitely beats bowling! then again, pretty much everything beats bowling. As long as you don't mind an ambiance comparable to a pub bathroom, and focus on the races and the dogs, it's not half bad. definitely need to be in the right mindset though.

The fields behind and the all weather pitch in front is full of Gaelic football and Hurling players and they always welcome new players. Then there are the music lessons of banjo and fiddle and bodhrain which give a great sense of community to the locals. They are not expensive either, my daughter plays there at only €6 for an hour at banjo. I just hope she sticks at it!
