I am a former student of SVS and unfortunately I cannot be proud of this affiliation. During the…read moreyears I attended and afterward I witnessed some blatant hypocrisy and violations of the school's stated philosophy, including by some of the most seasoned staff members. The claim is that decisions are to be made by the entire community via School Meeting, but the staff do in fact gatekeep and manage to exclude any ideas or proposals that they don't like without any discussion whatsoever. I personally have known quite a few people who were burned by the heavy-handed controlling efforts of certain staff members. Make no mistake: SVS is NOT a democratic school; it merely masquerades as one. If the founders don't like your idea (or don't like you), it won't be up for a vote; it'll be squashed preemptively. There isn't necessarily anything wrong with a school where students aren't in charge. But it shouldn't pretend to be what it's not.

Excellent school for smart kids that need help with reading, math or comprehension. The teachers…read morehave excellent training. The curriculum and academics are on point. My kids loved the art and music program. They came to Hillside School not able to read. They returned to public school with top grades and studying skills. They are all going to attend college. We couldn't have done it with out Hillside.

Hillside encourages experience, learning, and getting better at sports. Although Hilllside is a…read moresmall community, it opens up to people to allow them to prosper. Hillside looses a credit rating because of the way that food is made. The food comes from Sysco, the company that makes window washer, and that's exactly what the food tastes like. On the other hand, Hillside's sports program is just a bit off. The Hillside motto, is that they will teach you anything you want to learn, but that's untrue. I had to sit out, because no one though I was good enough to Junior Varsity basketball. So, I had to sit on a couch for the whole winter, with no sport, doing my homework. It was honestly the most obnoxious lie I've ever heard from a school, loss of two approval stars.

Thankfully I don't have kids old enough to go to these schools and I'm planning on moving out of…read morethe town before they are of age. My review is specifically about their school bus routes. There's school buses literally stop every 100 feet in some cases on Route 20 creating a huge amount of traffic and they stop twice in a few cases at the same apartment complex. (The Meadows at Marlborough) This is beyond ridiculous and makes everyone late for work all because a bunch of people don't want their precious little snowflakes walking to a bus stop like we all did between 10 and 15 years ago. Seriously stop expecting everyone else to raise your kids and either drop them off or let them walk to a bus stop.
