    Richard D.

I first attended First Christian Church across from my first home on Troost Ave in North Hollywood in 1950. It was red brick outside on Colfax just across the street, Later in years I visited the Pastor to talk about my past." He said Richard you can't go home again. After a lot of learning and singing at the Angles Temple the four square, founded by sister Aimee, I sailed my ship out to Huntington Beach for a new life and new Home at First Christian Church, solid as a Rock on a firm foundation led by Pastor Scott. Young Ideas with old solid values, and special new friends from the Men's bible talk and study, from our brave Fireman who attend and serve our community, We"ll read and talk of Jesus, miracles and such, sometimes some Oatmeal cookies, and some talk about how brother Joe cooks his ribs and how Frank says to barbecue a steak, but when we're all ready to go home were Fresh and refreshed in the word of God. thankyou First Christian church for being there for this Samaritan.

    Oh My S.

This is a great church and the kids room is the best. The sermon is always inspiring and related to real world stuff. It's a great community to be a part of.

Today there was a historical educational component to learn about the history of America - the foundational history component was enjoyable 2. Someone brought various vegetable plants for the community to take 3. Indirectly reflect conservative values; which I am looking for 4. They did not have many grand improvements - which is nice for a place of worship Ended up talking with the pastors wife Rebecca, while I was waiting, who I seemed to have connected with or so I thought... I was thinking maybe this was going to be my home church and was trying to give her my business card just so I could give her my cell phone number... and she got really offended and said that "we don't do that here and walked away". It was extremely cold and I am very shocked the turn of emotions by Rebecca's demeanor. After reading other comments that are similar - I'm dropping my review from 5 stars to 1. Before you try this church please read the other comments on how this church will not help you in your time of need. 5/5 sermon but I won't be coming back... good luck Rebecca. ------------- The message finally came to me. Rebecca's "we do not do that here" translates to "we do not help people". Very obvious and relevant based on the negative reviews. It's shameful. However, if you are reading this review and you have not attended any churches - I would still encourage you to visit it to learn about Jesus if it's your only resort. Otherwise, I would recommend going elsewhere. May everyone find and lead like Jesus.

This is my "go to" church when I visit relatives. First, everyone is very welcoming. Free coffee…read moreand donuts. Their message is spot on and worship is amazing. I brought my husband last week and he agrees with me. We'll be back, for sure.

I have not been to Compass Bible Church in HB but I have been to the one in Aliso Viejo. I stopped attending the AV location because at the time, the main pastor had an aggressive vibe and they were openly against Catholics and Mormons. This review isn't about the HB location but about my recent experience being approached by two men from Compass who were trying to convert us. My husband and I have been Christians for decades and the conversation was very offputting. I'll refer to the men as F and G. My husband and I were enjoying an afternoon out with our family when F and G came up to us. They invited us to church and asked if we are already a part of a church community. We said yes and thought that would be the end of the conversation. They briefly left us alone to talk to another family but then came back and interrupted us while my husband and I were talking to each other. F asked my husband something along the lines of, "If someone collapsed right in front of you and he only had 7 minutes to live, what would you say to him to save his soul?" My husband was confused, then F said, "Okay now you have 6 min and 30 seconds!" My husband asked, "Are you testing my faith right now?" F went on to say how important it is for Christians to be able to articulate the gospel quickly to someone who needs it. It was very condescending and tone deaf, especially when F doubled down at the end of his speech to ask my husband yet again what he would say to the dying man. At that point, my husband was frustrated and quipped that he would first call 911 before asking the guy about his soul. Now, my husband and I are both very equipped to summarize the gospel but we felt no need to prove ourselves to F and G. The entire exchange made us angry, especially since F and G were disrespectful to us. Their intent was to give us their spiel regardless of whether or not we were receptive. Anyone could've sensed that we did not want to be bothered, but F and G continued to try to get us to prove that we knew the gospel. This tactic is very outdated and disrespectful. Perhaps they came across some people that day who really did want to have a conversation with them, and in that case, go for it! You have to read the person and see if they are open or closed to talking with you. Also, this tactic only takes numbers into consideration rather than actually forming a relationship. I imagine they went home happy to report they talked to X number of people that day. Sure, they talked to people, but did they actually care about those people? If they cared about us, they would've respected our time and left us alone after they sensed we were not interested. In hindsight, we should've asked them point blank to leave us alone. Evangelism needs to be lead with love first. Having one meaningful conversation all day would be much more impactful in the eyes of the kingdom - even if the person decided not to go to church or decided they weren't interested in Jesus. It's about actually listening to people and caring for them without an agenda. If I was not a Christian, this interaction would have really soured my view of the church. This is the kind of Christianity that people are turned off by and makes us Christians cringe. Just because someone doesn't want to talk to you or doesn't want to prove their faith to you doesn't mean they are weak in their faith or are going to hell. They just don't want to talk to someone disrespectful! I would have said a shortened version of this to their faces but I knew they would not be receptive to feedback. They had a goal and were not to be deterred. In short, be mindful of the current culture, be sensitive to people's attitudes, and see strangers as people rather than numbers to convert.

AMAZING cast for the gospel to shine in this church. The location speaks for itself too. Go see it…read moresoon! If you haven't seen "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens on a broadway play, DON'T miss this one. It's a FREe pass to see the beautiful story of the gospel of Ebenezer Scrooge, a fictional character with his journey in life. The presence of the stage was mesmerizing; the voices from the narrator to the vocals on point singing was moving; from the various costumes thought-out perfectly and wonderfully made as originals; and the overall performance by ALL makes a beautiful night to remember by everyone for all ages to enjoy. There was at least a cast of a hundred and I'm hearing only 4 or 5 are not congregants. That's amazing! It was our second time at this church, seeing the free movie night: Journey To Bethlehem a few weeks ago as we were invited then. That was commendable too for another story and time. The VIP Tour/Back Stage pass was the best! Thanks to our friend, Ric for extending to us! We had even a better time to see behind the scenes. Don't miss the free pass to share and be there early. The play starts at 7pm and the line starts at 5:30pm. Plenty of parking available with attendants to assist you. Thanks to our other friends, Sheryl & Tradis for being in line for our group. No saving seats though for family & friends as you can understand. Hang on to your free ticket and you will be amazed in this 2-1/2 hour play. We will definitely share with ours! Oh, and also bring your great daddy jokes for ice breakers to share with the crowd as you wait until the play opens to start. Very warm and interactive for all ages. No bah humbug allowed here! Merry Christmas!
