LOVE coming to FCCHB! The services are typically 60-70 minutes and they are either at 9 am or 10:45 am, on Sundays. I like that the services are both the same and that you have the ability to go to whichever is the most convenient for you. From the first visit, I felt welcomed and found a good community right away. The band rocks! They have a really good worship team with lots of instruments and singers. This place does not feel like a church. Also the youth group here is NOTORIOUS for being extremely worldly. Drugs, hooking up, bad doctrine, apathy for the word. If you went to Huntington Beach High School you would know that quite a few people in the bad crowds attend there. I have known several people who used to attend here and all of them left the faith, either because the culture there failed them, or because they just were never taught proper doctrine. read more

After a lot of learning and singing at the Angles Temple the four square, founded by sister Aimee, I sailed my ship out to Huntington Beach for a new life and new Home at First Christian Church, solid as a Rock on a firm foundation led by Pastor Scott. FCCHB - Churches Near Me - Huntington Beach, California

Visited Christmas Eve. It was a nice service. I loved the music. BUT not one member of the church spoke to anyone in my family. Except the guy passing out programs. I haven't found a church I want to go to. I would come again because my daughter goes here, but not on my own. For a church- how do you score for yelp? I'm going with "makes one feel welcome" so I give 2 stars for the 2 guys with programs in the lobby. And it is a nice campus. Just to be transparent- I have a wife and we had four of our kids with us. I am bald and thin, using a cane and obviously have cancer. I suppose being a gay couple had something to do with it. A person hobbling into a church who is obviously sick should be met with a greeting. Welcomed. The family welcomed. These are hurting people. Instead, a man on the front row in a red make America great again hat glared at us throughout the service. This is definitely not a church home for me. My wife will definitely not consider coming with me to this church again. She was affected much more than I was by the man in the red hat, and total shun. They (church leaders) announce that you come to meet them at a coffee bar on campus after the service. That makes it easy. For them. read more

This is a tough one. Generally, I like the church. However, they tend to decorate the set with obnoxious blue lights. Problem #1: I have a sensitivity to blue lights. Problem #2: I have contacted them a couple times, and they don't seem very concerned about it. Conclusion: If you have a sensitivity to blue lights, this probably isn't the church for you. AND...it does say something about the mindset of the church that they're more concerned about their set than the discomfort of their congregation. Just something to keep in mind. read more

Huge church group! There's an actual campus w/a church, coffee shop, auditoriums, etc. Easy to get lost here! This place is for modern religious followers. I attended, as they called it the more modern event which still felt like I was at a concert hall, with a live bad playing electric guitars, drums, a singer, large screen TVs, cameramen taping the band at different angles, etc. Very friendly, very contemporary, attracting people of all ages. Pretty efficient too in delivering information, passing things out, etc. Place is well kept n clean and they definitely take advantage of modern technology to get their message across. Very welcoming to newcomers. Bruce is a very good speaker, full of stories, humor and lots of advice. read more

A really great community church. Our family went here consistently for about 6 months and had a very positive experience. Walking distance from our house made this church even more likeable for us. Child care - very safe and qualified. The people working in child care have had background checks, there are also video cameras operating in the child care area. Our 2 yr old son had an easy and enjoyable time here every sunday morning. Children are divided up into varying age specific classrooms. Lots of toys. The band - well practiced and enthusiastic worship on the part of the band/worship team. There appears to be a few different music teams. They sang very modern Christian worship songs and also mixed in some secular songs based on the series/message. If there is a criticism here, it is that the band is too well-practiced/structured. They would go through each song twice and then move on to the next song. My preference is for something a little more spontaneous and emotional, more spirit led, less structured. Congregation - Very crowded main services, always full. Mostly middle-age white people, not very diverse group of people. They have different services for the more traditional Christians, offering hymns. And also separate services for youth. The youth program definitely appears to be VERY vibrant and popular. Pastor - We attended this church when Bruce was the pastor. He is no longer the pastor, he has retired and handed the pastor position over to someone else (previous youth pastor?) Bruce was great, very funny with lots of personal stories to supplement his preaching. His theology was always good, never problematic. Life group - my wife and I joined a "life group" which is a home Bible study. The study complimented the Sunday series from the church, and also had the option for self directed studies as the group would choose. This was a great experience for us and we are still friends with several of the people from the life group. The church also has a public/retail coffee and book store. Its open 9-5 daily and seems to be a quiet place to study and/or hang out. Outside seating available. read more

Absolutely LOVE this place. I've been looking for a church for the last few years, but just never felt quite comfortable. Everything changed after attending FCCHB. I typically go to the modern service. Pastor Martin is a wonderful speaker, and has a unique ability of relating to his congregation. Each week, I feel challenged to better myself, and follow the ways of the church. This church also has many counseling and support groups available. I personally haven't had the need to go to one, but it's nice that it's available if the situation arises. They offer free coffee on campus, with a small sandwich shop, and bookstore right nearby. By far the friendliest and most relaxed church I have attended. The kids program is great as well. They are all set up by age groups with individualized services set accordingly. Adults can choose the main chapel for service where wonderful more contemporary music is played by the live band or attend in the small chapel also located on the premises. Both will here the same message from the young passionate pastor. The messages are always clear and easy to understand with plenty of humor to keep your attention. There is no dress code so come as you are. There is free coffee after each service situated in the middle of the campus. This is also a great time to get to know a few people and/or find out more information about the church. You can also get a fresh frap or latte at the Red Car Cafe. They also feature a large variety of foods made to order. On Tuesday nights they have family night that features pizza and a drink for $4. read more

We love Sr. Pastor Scott Martin and all is a pastoral staff. He is a young leader but has wisdom beyond his years. He truly is has a servants heart, epitomizes that Pastor means teacher and is a confident and great leader. FCCHB offers all kids of services (Video cafe, multiple times, traditional and more modern services and online) so there is no excuse for not attending. The church is also very loving and has done a ton for the community and abroad. If you haven't been to church in awhile.....please go check it out and you will see. I have been going to this church for over a decade. I am 37 years old now. This church has done wonderful things for me my family. My husband grew up in a house that did not go to church. My step dad also did not know the Lord. In the last 10 or so years my sister, step dad and husband have all been baptized here. It was a true miracle. Former pastor Bruce Templeton married me and my husband nine years ago and also lead the funeral of my little sister. This church is full of amazing people. The sermons by now Pastor Scott Martin are powerful, relevant, and Bible base. This church is full of all ages and everyone is welcome. I'm so grateful for this church. Meg T mentioned "First Christian Church owns Huntington Christian School- so they have an obligation to the other families of whom they let attend the school!" Although I feel bad for this situation, My daughters have gone to HCS for years and the school doesnt tolerate bullying and in the cases where it did occur the boys were suspended. Yes, HCS is a FCC affiliated school and it appears your review is on a camp. I asked both my daughters and they only know of a summer camp, which both went to, but know nothing of a HCS science camp. They think it was a FCC event as HCS doesnt really do anything in the off months, except the day camp. Most of the teachers from HCS dont even go to FCC, the school runs itself and the camp may have used the HCS campus but HCS is not the school you are commenting on in fairness to them. With that said- FCC is not the church is was and yes, I agree the children's (not high school, as that has ceased to exist at the church) has slowly gone downhill I can completely see your review of lack of any children's oversight and discipline indicating that level at this church. The Pastor, ironically was the youth pastor before becoming the head Pastor and he has completely allowed the church children's programs to not be the place to go. They are across the street from Huntington High School, yet they completely allowed the high school program on Sundays to go away, they don't reach out to the high school and mid week day night the place is a "hang out" for junior high and high schoolers, but there really isn't much Christ in the messages. if you want to be convicted or are Christian, this is not the church for you or your family, there are other Bible churches with excellent Kids programs in Huntington Beach. We used to go to this church but have moved on ever since my daughters (yes the same ones that went to HCS) lost interest in the Church and were it is going as a church. We needed them to grow closer to God, especially my daughter in high school, not alienated by a lack of a program for them at church other than sit in a loud sanctuary- desperate to be anywhere else bu there. If you like loud 87db level music so "God can hear us" this is a great place to go instead of a concert, also if you are searching and have no children this may be a good place to go. As many have commented, not threatening in any way and many from the church are very interested in helping you understand who God is. I gave this a 1 star as we saw the church a few years back, when it was a great church for our children, but today it is no longer that church compared to what other churches in Huntington Beach are offering. Your time is valuable and its better to get a place you want to go to, for us we left because we needed a more solid Children's and High school program, but be sure to check all the other great reviews as this is a decent church overall and may very well be a perfect fit for you. There is a monthly program called NEXT where the Pastor does an intro to himself and church- please, if you are interested, at least do this to see if this is a good Church for YOU, but if you have Kids, wrong place to be, at least until they clean up the kids program. read more

I recently called the church for advice on a matter close to my heart. I am a very private individual and dislike callling for help with personal matters. I was in a lot of discomfort and out of my depth with a loved one. I left one appropriate message for help and received a timely return call from a church counselor. He did NOT get too personal with me which I immensely appreciated. I did not have to share too much information about my loved one. I followed his simple and concise advice on the matter and the problem disappeared within 24 hours after floundering on my own for 4 months. I had nearly lost my faculties dealing with my loved one and had stopped being effective and helpful. I was too close to the matter and couldn't see the obvious issue. The church gave me a healthy, intellegent perspective in a short phone conversation without drama or gossip. And best of all, I didn't lose my loved one in the process! The folks at FCC seem to foster healthy normal relationships without getting into each other's soup. I've attended 2 other churches in HB and FCC seems more sane and practical than the others. These wonderful people knew just what I needed, and the next thing I know I've been going these every Sunday for 8 months and my sister and I even got baptized 2 weeks ago.
