I've been attending Porchfest since its inception, and it continues to grow each year. What started…read morewith just a handful of porches and a few bands has blossomed into a vibrant event featuring 18 porches and 72 bands--it's truly amazing to see how much it's expanded! In the early days, you could easily hop between porches to catch all the bands, including the main headliner, but now, with so many bands and multiple headliners, planning ahead is key. I recommend checking the band schedule in advance, watching their YouTube videos, and deciding who you want to see. However, if you're attending with a group, you might have to adjust your plans on the fly. The event runs all day, starting at 11 a.m. with bands kicking off at noon and the last set finishing around 7:45 p.m. To avoid traffic, plan to arrive by 10 a.m., as parking can be a challenge. We live in Sanford and typically use our bicycles or golf cart to get there. This year, we took the golf cart and parked about a 5-minute walk away at 11th Street and Magnolia Avenue. Keep in mind, the event spans Myrtle, Magnolia, Park, and Oak Streets between 5th and 12th Streets, so expect plenty of walking. Comfortable shoes, sun gear, and a light jacket are essential, and bringing your own cooler with drinks, food, and chairs will make your day more enjoyable. Food trucks are plentiful at the event, but since it's a family-friendly gathering, alcohol is not sold on-site. You're welcome to bring your own beverages, but remember to drink responsibly to keep the atmosphere fun and respectful. There's a strong police presence, and streets are blocked off to ensure everyone's safety. Two areas for improvement: There were long lines at the Porto-lets, especially in high-traffic spots, and they weren't consistently maintained by staff like you might see at larger events. While not a deal breaker, having more attention in this area would enhance the experience, particularly for families. Additionally, some trash receptacles weren't being emptied regularly, which affected cleanliness. Overall, Porchfest is a must-see event. It's the largest outdoor gathering in Sanford and a fantastic way to spend a day--exploring historic homes, enjoying great music, and making memories with friends and family.

One of the plays they put on wasn't to my liking, but it had won Tony awards and the performances were excellent. Like most theaters, they do a combination of newer and classic plays. They have a program for kids also. There is usually an intermission where they serve a limited selection of drinks and snacks. The theater is worth supporting, and once I am past some medical issues I plan to become a subscribing member.

This building was the original State theatre and was renovated a couple times. Their service was very friendly and their staff just charming! I loved how the lights would blink just before the show begins before and right after intermission. We arrived to attend The Memphis Musical performance to support a friend and it was amazing! We plan to attend again and again. I love coming out of the norm to support the arts instead of just watching another movie. Their website just made everything so simple. We were able to easily select our seats and pay for them online. The box office holds your tickets near the front door with your last name as the reservation. Loved that! If you know Mount Dora well you will know that they have limited street parking, and only a few public parking lots, so when things get busy, the parking is the first thing to go. We did enjoy the excuse to go to the area, get some food, visit some new shops and see some great local vendors. I always appreciate a chance to see handmade and homemade artisans. Overall: A- Parking situation is always a challenge in this area when things get busy, but the art show itself was a good time and I'm sure we'd go again in future years.

And I also have to say that the setting is just majestic, you can come and walk around, grab lunch, and keep walking. Of course, I hope you pick up some art, but if you don't, I hope you have fun. Besides all the nice restaurants to visit (please don't settle for pizza), you can also visit other galleries around the area. At the same time, talk to some people, many travel far to visit and to showcase their art. It is a great atmosphere, kids and small dogs may not appreciate it because it is crowded, but with a little bit of patience everything is smoothed out. There's plenty of free and paid parking also.

Adults-Only Science Night Live was a BLAST!…read more This was my husband and my second time at Orlando Science Center and I gotta say we love the adults-only nights. This time, we stayed basically from open to close, and while we definitely didn't manage to do EVERYTHING, there was plenty to keep us entertained the entire evening. Parking was a little confusing based on the event information, but we arrived about 15 minutes before opening and found a spot pretty easily. We waited maybe 10 minutes to get inside, so overall entry was very smooth. HOT TIP: If you're sensitive to loud noises, earplugs are a good call. There was a dedicated DJ music area in the dinosaur exhibit, but other places were maybe a bit too loud, too, but still so fun! The Optical Illusions exhibit was probably one of my favorite parts-- There were so many fun photo opportunities, and even the house of mirrors was a blast -- coming from someone who is absolutely not usually a house-of-mirrors person. We also stopped in one of the hands-on areas and played with a circuit activity, did trivia, explored the exhibits and caught Kaboom (a fun show, but YES, earplugs are a must there). Trivia was also a great little break in the night. We grabbed drinks, sat down and played a round. I loved that they had a no-phones-at-the-table rule. If your phone came out, you were disqualified until the next round, which made everything feel much more fair. Food and drink prices were surprisingly reasonable for a special event. A beer was around $5-$6, and a big cookie from a local vendor (Sapanguita--the BEST) was around $4-$5 -- definitely better than what I'd expect to pay at a concert or sporting event. I also loved that several of the food options came from local businesses. HOT TIP: One thing to keep in mind if you have accessibility or mobility concerns: getting between floors via elevator can take some time, especially when they're crowded. I'd build a little extra time into your plans rather than trying to race from one scheduled activity to another. Speaking of scheduled activities: GET YOUR SHOW TICKETS EARLY! Both Kaboom and the laser show required tickets during our event, and it sounded like you could grab tickets for your preferred showtime near the beginning of the night. We got very lucky and snagged some of the last Kaboom tickets, and only made it into the laser show because other guests turned theirs back in. The one thing I'd personally skip next time was the laser show. The concept was cool, but ours was around 45 minutes long and ended after midnight. From where we were sitting, I felt like I was craning my neck quite a bit and the lasers eventually started bothering my eyes. Even with earplugs, it was still pretty loud, too. It also didn't feel especially easy to leave once the show started because of the dark theater and needing to exit up the stairs! The soundtrack was very '90s rock/grunge, which my husband recognized and enjoyed much more than I did. Overall, though, this was a really enjoyable night and I'd absolutely consider doing another adults-only event here -- especially if there were a new temporary exhibit to explore.

I went on Saturday the 17th because they were predicting inclement weather on the 18th. A lot of other people had the same idea and the parking was frustrating. I spent at least 30 minutes driving around to find a spot in the designated lots. My favorites were the Scottish popular music bands, the pipe & drum bands, the border collies herding goats and the men and women boulder carrying contests. This was exactly the case for their Independence Day fireworks celebrated on July 3rd. Everything is very organized, there are a good number of vendors. They had an American Idol singer who was great and it was a very uplifting Independence Day experience. I love their fireworks here and will definitely be back for any of their festivals.
