I miss the Highland games every year and this year I FINALLY made it! A group of friends and I went and we had a great time! We did archery, saw a unicorn and highland cows as well as watched the various athletic games. We spent about 5 hours there which honestly was more time than I thought we'd be there but there was plenty to keep us entertained! Since this was the first time attending for I think everyone in our group, we were a little confused about a few things... We had to buy tickets for beers which was kind of annoying to stand in line to buy the beers then stand in line again to get the actual beer. The whiskey tasting did not require tickets though which was also strange. I don't remember anything being mentioned on the website or social media posts. I understand the necessity of doing such, but a heads up would've been nice. Oh, you can only purchase the tickets with cash too. The other thing was the schedule, the online schedule was very vague and we weren't sure if we had to buy the programs the boy scouts were selling in order to get a more detailed schedule? I personally did not want to have to carry around a book or I would have found out by purchasing one. I feel like we missed out on some of the things we wanted to see because the schedule of events wasn't super clear. Again, this was our first time so maybe there isn't a true schedule, things kind of just happen fluidly but we weren't sure. I did not eat but several friends did, they enjoyed their food and after getting drink tickets we enjoyed our beers, they were very cheap too! You can't get a craft beer for $5 anywhere anymore! I was impressed with the variety of vendors Overall we had a great time despite being confused about a few things. We're already looking forward to going again next year!

Get your Scot on!! Whether or not you have Scottish heritage, this is an amazing event to hang out and have some fun. I, for one love to delve into the shops and see what amazing Celtic jewelry, purses, kilts! I love me a good looking Scot in a kilt, like my hubby... ok he isn't a Scot but MAN does that kilt look good on him (my mom's family is Scot so it counts, right?) Adding to the festivities are Quiddich Games (YES!! Who knew J.K. would not only create a new world but an actual sport) and Highland Games, incredible drums and pipes, you name it. There is definitely something for everyone. The concerts shouldn't be missed, my whole body hurt for days from the dancing. This is a must go event for the Scots and Scot at heart!

We came mainly to hear our favorite Celtic band, Off Kilter, who had performed at Epcot's Canada section in Disney World for years. We also wanted to shop, eat and see any events we could. We took the free shuttle from the church (Inverness red line), which worked well. The wait was only 10-15 minutes. We arrived at about 12:30, having lunch prior and in plenty of time to see Off Kilter at 3:15. We arrived at the event, and it was crowded! The website said tickets could be bought with credit card or cash at the event, but most folks were using cash that we saw after waiting a few minutes. So my annoyed hubby got out of one of the many ticket lines and got in one of three long ATM lines that actually went pretty fast. There was a hefty 3.95 ATM fee. We would have gotten cash for free at Publix had we known. Felt fleeced after paying the fee, but tried to enjoy the rest of the afternoon. We arrived at lunchtime with long, slow lines at the food booths. Fish and chips were around $10. So glad we ate beforehand. One guy we talked to paid someone at the front of the food line for their meal and his if they would order his meal. The guy waiting said he stood 1 1/2 hours, yikes! But our acquaintance got his food quickly that way, paying a hefty price. The merch booths were fun to walk through but high prices -- think Disney prices for jewelry I saw. Bought our son a wooden toy sword for $15 after he pestered us. Lots of Irish Celtic knot jewelry and Irish merch along with every item you could think of with Scotland on it. It's a Scottish festival but music and merchandise was equally Irish and Scottish. We got to the outdoor theater an hour early where Off Kilter would play. A kind couple got up and gave us two folding seats provided by the event. They were scarce and we were SO grateful for this kind act! Many brought their own foldable sports chairs but beware there is a long walk from shuttle to the theater. Also, the grassy hill was steep where seating was with no grading or handicapped seating. Those in wheelchairs had a hard time, having to sit sideways in case their wheelchair brake didn't hold. Typical festival with lots of booze and a few visibly drunk people. Not a great atmosphere for younger children. It didn't bother my teenage son though. We finished watching Off Kilter around 4 pm but most events were done by then, even though it was open until 8:30 pm. My son was disappointed there were no kids activities at 4 pm when there was plenty of daylight left. Really poor planning on organizers part. Probably won't go again as most events are early in the day and it's a 30 minute drive from our house. For what we saw vs. what we paid ($20 each) it wasn't worth all the hassles we encountered.

Really fun event to watch all things Scottish. Bagpipe brigades, Scottish beer from Dunedin FL. Sword fights. Guys throwing telephone poles around like toothpicks. So strap on your kilt man or woman, eat some Haggis, drink some beer and sing along to a Scottish tune

I miss this event every year and I finally got to go this year! I had a great time. You can try Scottish cuisine, whisky, or beer. You will be entertained by watching manly men throw real heavy things far distances. You can learn about your Scottish ancestors or find out which clan you might be a part of. You can sit back and listen to bagpipers and scottish rock bands. You can try your hand at many different activities: archery, sword fighting, or axe throwing. It is fun for the whole family. My advice is get there shortly after opening because parking gets pretty nightmare-ish midday. Bring chairs and blankets and set up a spot on the lawn near the music stage. Use that as a resting spot between your activities. Also food lines are the worst midday. Try stuff early on in the day or wait til lines settle a bit. If you are a beer fan I highly recommend the Dunnedin Beers, The stout was amazing.

We plan to look them up in the near future to purchase. This event featured not only local art but beer and German food. Many vendors were there to raise money, earn money or just for networking purposes. We tried a few food items, grilled bratwurst with brotchen and sauerkraut. The bratwurst was grilled nice but all was far from authentic. There were other wine vendors there, if only I drank wine, I'd probably enjoy it. The event was descent and it was a great way to bring people together to advertise and network.

There are a ton of GREAT artists showcasing their artwork (everything from paintings to photos to jewelry, sculptures, carvings and more) and a lot more! Some local businesses have booths there, too, which allows for the best of both worlds! The food is pretty good, too, although we don't really go for the food. They DO have some German food trucks, which fit the theme, and other options that are pretty good. Alcohol is also available. But it's a great event with a lot to do. They also seem to have this event on pleasant weekends (weather-wise) which is nice! It's a great family event, or if you're single and ready to mingle, it's good for that, too! I've seen all crowds at this event, which makes it even more fun! If you're looking for something fun and relaxing to do, I'd recommend this event!

This festival turned out to be a lot better than I expected. My biggest worry was that after 2…read morehours I'd want to leave but I'm happy to say that that was not the case. My friend and I bought the online tickets for beer tasting which with a service fee came out to $28.50 or something in that area. This was for the orange wristband so our time for beer sampling was from 4 to 7pm. We arrived at 3 p.m. and already the entrance was out of the Kevin Bacon shirts, so we had to make our way to the the actual Kevin Bacon booth to get one from the pile there; but that was not a big deal, and the people there were very nice so we didn't mind the booth visit. Pros: In my opinion; there was a good variety of bacon snacks ranging from $2 - 5, but there were other things to choose from as well including burgers, an incredible grilled cheese with bacon jam served up by the restaurant: "hammered lamb". That was my absolute most favorite thing there. It was nice that the majority of the booths there were offering some kind of free tid bit, be it a magnet, key chain, and there was even one offering a smores kit if you threw marshmallows into the hole; so even if you don't buy the drinking ticket, nor actually buy any beer, you'd still walk away with free goodies. Sonny's set up a tent to give seminars on how to BBQ different types of meats. They put out several seats and then gave samples after each lecture. Cons: I still think that $28.50 is steep for a beer sampling ticket. I just keep thinking that I could've gone to total wine, and gotten 2 six packs of different types of beers and done my own home sampling and it still would've been cheaper. If I go again, I wont buy the beer sampling ticket, I'll just buy an individual beer, those started at $4 a piece. The map given to you at the entrance said that the Sonny's tent was supposed to have an offering of smoked wings but we didn't see that at all which is a shame because beer and wings go hand in hand; just couldn't get over that. While the Sonny's "How to BBQ" seminar was a great idea, especially when it was followed by a tasting; I think they left out a lot of key points that I thought were common sense when making any kind of smoked meat. The one in particular that bothered me was the fact that they neglected to remove the membrane attached to the bones on the ribs, but this was nothing compared to it being one of the toughest ribs I've ever tried to eat. I had always understood that a decent rack of ribs had proper smoke time, and the meat should fall off the bone. It had good flavor, but that was about it. So I'm still trying to figure out how they were trying to teach others to BBQ, if they themselves flunked out on basic things? Overall I'd go again for sure because I did have a really good time, and the beer sampling was cool, if not expensive in my view. I personally would buy an individual beer next time, and hopefully the seminar will give tips and advice that lead to a good BBQ end product.

I've rounded this up to 4 stars, but in my mind the 2017 event is more like a 3.5, mainly because…read morethe Bacon part of the festival wasn't as extensively showcased as in previous years! Case in point - where were the stalls for 4 Rivers Smokehouse or Miller's Ale House, Omaha Steakhouse, Ruth's Chris Steak House or The Hammered Lamb or even Whole Foods Market? Yeah, there were some good food trucks, but I wanted more local variety rather than just Sonny's BBQ dominating the food experience! The cooking demos were great, but I really missed the variety of local food this year. The beer on the other hand - the selection there was excellent, the pours were generous and it was a lovely way to while away a sunny Central FL October day by the beautiful Cranes Roost Park lake. Parking at Altamonte was a breeze, and my friends reported the same near the Uptown Altamonte area too. Vendors were giving out great freebies - the sunglasses and the beer cozies came in super handy as did the recyclables bags. Also cost was really good - the Be. er sampling tickets was $25 advance and $35 day of event I'll be back again next year, but fingers crossed there will be more local food choices! Yelp 164/2017

I have to say there are more crafts than paintings, drawings, or photography type media. Regardless, there is still a lot to see and it's worth the stop. It took us a few hours to get through all the vendors, so bring your walking shoes. There are plenty of food vendors on site, there are two small areas where they have live music, and there is a decent sized kids zone available with bounce houses and more. Parking is ample, but get here early because it's more difficult to find a spot after 11am. I'm not too happy with how they positioned the vendors this year. Usually there's a lot more space in the street and walkways. This year it was so cramped it was creating bottlenecks for people with walkers and wheelchairs. My mom was using a walker and struggled to get through. I felt like I was constantly in a way and had to move every time I tried to stop at a tent. My experience this year was more aggravating than enjoyable. Hopefully they fix this issue next time around. All-n-all, I would definitely return again next year and recommend stopping in if your in the area, why not, it's free entry and you just might find something great.

Some stalls were standouts - there was a local woodworker with really lovely and affordable furniture pieces, a stall which had antique spoons turned into functional jewelry pieces like rings, etc and another stall with artworks made from flip-flops. For the last one, it was so artfully done, I didn't realize the material used for the artworks were flip-flops at first! The amphitheater had live music, and it was a nice variety and lovely to hear in the background while wandering thru the stalls. Food vendor wise, there were only a couple of option and I couldn't help thinking they should have partnered with the Daily City Food Trucks events so a better variety of options could have been available. Also at night, not all vendors had access to electricity and so some of them were open, but I couldn't really check out what they were selling all that well. I had tons of fun browsing thru the stalls and so would definitely come and check this festival again next year, if in the area. Note: #377 of Yelp 100 challenge for 2016
