Round the side of the assembly rooms, these guys have made such an effort, to be well dressed, perfectly, Britishly polite, and filling the place with fitting and interesting trinkets, genuine, actual, real deal type people. McGreedycakepants over here *waves hands frantically* is proud and mildly ashamed to say that my mate and I were apparently the first to finish off the afternoon tea in it's gargantuan entirety- if you put good cake in front of me, I will, eat, the lot. We spent hours here, working our way through all of the sarnies, cakes and biscuity treats on the stand, accompanied by tea, silver service style, and a rather excellent camp crocodile joke that I am ashamed to say I can't remember. Your belly deserves this cake, and these excellent people deserve your custom. They also had a stand at the christmas market, they recognised me, and were lovely yet again (now that's definitely customer service) also, I must note, that they also do the best, handmade, deep filled, completely booze steeped mince pies too.

Luckily, the two coincided, and as I returned from visiting the Cathedral and walking up, then down, Steep Hill, I found, and went into, Goodies. The sweet shop and it's employees provided a welcome relief from the cold wind. The walls lined with bottles of sweets captured my attention for rather a while, and when I apologised for taking so long to choose, I was told not to worry. I eventually left with a bag of toasted teacakes - which, to my delight, were not at all stale, a problem I've had in other sweet shops - and a bag of jelly raspberries and blackberries for my boyfriend. I could quite easily have left with a lot more. And in a way, was rather thankful that I had to dash off to catch a bus, otherwise I would have gone home with my wallet rather a lot lighter!

As you would expect with the name, they have a truly excellent beers on tap. I'm not usually a beer drinker, but I would happily get a belly on what they've got. These guys know their stuff, and are smiley, and charming to boot. Interesting interior design, with little quirks, linking together the pizza oven, and the giant, shiny brew tanks (yuss, full on trendy hipster micro brewery coming along here) Definitely worth a visit, whether you want a meal, or just a couple of drinks, paying into the pockets of some properly lovely owners.

We opted to share a platter of ribs and side dishes. The ribs were great. Not necessarily the best I have ever had, but still good. The sides were ok - I would like my fries to be thinner and crispier. The service was excellent though and I found our waiter to be super-friendly. But the best part was the chocolate milkshake, the only wish with that was that it was too small! If you are on your way to Lincoln definitely stop by Damon's, if only for the experience.
