I now have a new set of wedding rings since my former ones are too small due to my rheumatoid arthritis. Very clean and organized store. It's a must see in town! If she did, perhaps she wouldn't have been met with the all too typical racism of a border town. Did she have to ask three times to be helped? Sure did. Was she treated with courtesy and respect? Of course not! It's Farmington! And she isn't white. So the white woman behind the counter was passive aggressive, hostile, and uncommunicative. Sweet. Does this bother us? Sort of, I suppose. I used to go to Amy's Bookcase when I was a kid growing up in Farmington. I spent many happy hours…read morethere. They had a deep science fiction collection, far better than any other bookstore in town, and the prices were always reasonable. When I left town for college I sold my 2000+ volume collection of science fiction and fantasy books to them, and although I was able to use the proceeds to buy a much needed computer, I always regretted losing those books to do it. After 32 years in the San Francisco Bay Area, I moved back to New Mexico. My wife Valerie and I took a trip up to Farmington so I could show her where I grew up. Imagine my surprise when I found Amy's Bookcase still there! And bustling with shoppers! And with just as great a selection as when I was a kid! Better, if I'm honest. I looked for some of my books (which I initialed on the top edge with a black marker). I was a little disappointed not to find any, but I picked up a few well thumbed books that I remembered fondly from my youth and a few newer ones besides. The volunteer manning the front desk was beyond helpful and got us oriented for our self guided tour. The displays in the main building are a real hodgepodge of artifacts. We wondered how many of the Native American items were looted and should be returned to their rightful owners. Nonetheless it was an interesting collection. We then entered the annex and were taken aback by the cyclorama - never seen anything like it. Afterward we wandered the small village of original and reconstructed village buildings. Very impressive. The amount of work it took to move, gather and in some cases rebuild these structures is hard to imagine. They obviously have some very dedicated volunteers and donors. Surprisingly worth the time to visit this slice of Americana.

A lot of the historic structures limit wheelchair accessibility, but she was happy to help with what she could. This is a store where all customers are appreciated & respected, not just a "chosen few" regulars. The staff are all quite knowledgeable, and willing to share; they are also interested in learning from their customers - something not seen in many gun shops. They generally have a varied stock; stock levels & selection can vary, but they are always happy to order something for the customer if it's not in stock, and will go to great lengths to find a particular model if necessary. Transfer fees are reasonable, should you order something yourself & have it sent through them. (Although courtesy should dictate that you buy current production firearms from them, and only do your direct purchases & transfers for used, obscure, antique, and collectible firearms.)
