WOW! What a great place located pretty much out in the middle of Nowhere, South Dakota. I had one outstanding 16 ounce ribeye that was easily oversized from what was advertised. This is probably one of the best steaks I've ever had outside of my own home. The quality of beef was impeccable. Very-very tender with excellent marbling. Smothered with mushrooms, this thing was a much anticipated tasty treat after a long day at work. Accompanying the steak was a plate full of crispy hashbrowns cooked exactly as I like them--crispy. A perfect compliment to a delicious entrée. Fast and friendly staff and the great food made the long drive out well worth the time. This place is short on disappointments, so I doubt you'll find any if you pay Feather's Nest a visit. read more

This place was packed when we visited on a Friday night. As a result the wait staff didn't seem to have time for us. It seems like the regulars (and there appeared to be plenty of them) were treated well, but if you didn't know someone you were no one. We'd read that the prime rib was great, so we split one and were pretty disappointed--very little flavor. The salad bar had shredded iceberg lettuce (like Taco Bell uses). As for ambiance--there is none--unless you liked eating in the high-school cafeteria. We were in a huge back room with lots of plain tables row after row. This place is in the midde of nowheresville South Dakota. I am guessing it is the only place to eat in the near vicinity. They are known for their steaks and my party all had gigantic prime rib steaks, all of them loved it. They have a small salad bar that comes with the meal and also a choice of potato. You can also order mixed drinks and they have bottled beer. Reservations apparently are suggested because according to my father in law, who regularly visits, the place gets packed. I ordered the walleye, a fish I love, but it was just meh. It was kind of steamed or poached with very little flavor. There were bones left in it. It was served with melted butter which was the only thing giving it flavor. Lesson learned - don't order fish in a steak house. But if you are hungry for a steak, apparently this place will not disappoint. read more

It's supposed to be some great restaurant from what I heard. They got us seated in the back and we waited a full 30 minutes for a waiter to even say hi, then waited another 45 for the food. The food came out and wasn't good. The baked potatoes was decent, but the steak was dry and flavorless, they cook all the steaks for the same amount of time, which is obvious due to my thicker steak being undercooked and my sisters thinner steak was way over cooked. Really don't recommend. I recommend a hyvee steak and cook it yourself. God awful service and steaks you'd rather feed to your dogs at home. No bueno. I'd give it less than one star read more

I have visited this restaurant twice in the past month and the food is just delicious! I am from the Minneapolis-St. Paul area and have friends around Hendricks, MN. The prime rib was done to perfection (as you ordered it) and so was the rib eye--you have a choice of a 10 oz. or 16 oz. steak. The salad bar includes a potato and a macaroni salad plus a nice assortment of green salad toppings and dressings plus soup or chili. The garlic mashed potatoes are to die for! The bread sticks and honey butter are equally scrumptious. These people know how to COOK "down home " delicious food at a very fair price. I'll be back whenever I can get to the area. read more

A part of me does not want to update my review of the Feather's Nest. Partly because I don't want them to become any busier than they already are and partly because I am afraid they will raise their prices and reduce their servings sizes! Because right now I can assure you there is no place anywhere in the region with larger portions or more reasonable prices. It's rare for us to not go home with a container of leftovers. And on top of that, the food is really good too! Think South Dakota supper club, with a salad bar and lots of happy smiling faces. Of course if you are into adult beverages there is a bar attached as well. This place is not going to give you the upscale vibe and Gordon Ramsey is not going to eat here, but if you are primarily concerned with really good food, good service, good prices, and a good dining experience, then the Feather's Nest is the hidden gem you need to find. read more

Had trouble experience. We drove an hour to enjoy a prime rib dinner. Several people had given us good reviews of the restaurant. I had called for reservations for 5:30. We were seated. Then we wait 20 minutes to even receive water and that was delivered by the hostess. It took the waitress another five minutes to take our order. In that twenty five minutes three waitress had walked by us without even knowledge we where there. After our order was taken we were advised to help ourselves to the salad bar. The lettuce looked like shredded bag lettuce and the bowl was almost empty. We eat our salad while waiting for our meals we ended waiting 45 minutes before I got upset that we didn't have our food yet. I asked for the bill without ever receiving my meal or explanations of why we hadn't received our order yet. The bill came and we were charged full price for soup and salad bar and my husbands beer. It was 22.00 which is outrageous for what we got and the time we spent in this place. We were there for an hour and half with only water, one beer and two measly salads. They were very busy but that is no excuse for the poor service and lack of communication. Will never return and will not recommend to anyone. read more

We arrived at 5 pm on a Friday night and the hostess asked if we had reservation, we said no, and she rolled her eyes and said we would have to eat in the bar and pointed the direction we needed to go.
