The pipe tobacco selection is great, and he'll adapt to your preferences mixing a special blend, etc. If certain tobaccos are not available, it's never for lack of trying - Joe has to rely on what can be procured from manufacturers and imported. Tobacco taxes have gone up astronomically so it's a very tough business to make a profit in - it has to be for the love of the product and customers more than anything. Joe is always a gentleman, gracious and genuine. He has a crew of regulars who hang out and enjoy their smokes, and frankly I'm always delighted by their banter. Good guys. Joe is a great proprietor - he's dressed the part in his vest, pocket watch and Sherlock Holmes kind of pipe. He's always ready to help with a huge smile, and very kind way about him. The store is everything it should be - homey, well-furnished, magazines and coffee, man-cave, and filled with the aromas of quality tobaccos. The humidor area is very clean. If someone is looking for a hospital sterile environment in a tobacco store, perhaps they should reconsider smoking in the first place. The clientele is republican/conservative, so if the politics bother you, there's not much to say. This is a gem of a place, and I hope he can stay in business for a long time despite all the legislation against the enjoyment of tobacco.

The young gentleman working at the counter needs some humility and some life experience. Hopefully today he learned that when you go out of your way to mischaracterize what another person says, there are consequences, especially when laced with unearned self-righteous indignation and coupled with a refusal to serve the customer. The interaction came across as dismissive and unnecessarily confrontational. Businesses thrive or fail because of their people. Judging from many of the other reviews here, I am by no means alone in experiencing very poor customer service. I reached out to the owner with my concerns using the name and number provided to me at the store but I never heard back from that person. The person in charge of the company's yelp did reply to me below which I appreciate but there's no reason for further communication, better to lay this to rest. Especially when there are enough options in southern Maine to go elsewhere. Try GREEN TRUCK in Kittery, INDICO or MARCS ORGANIX also in Kittery. Other spots too - up in Ogunquit or down in Eliott. I know for a fact there ARE indeed several nice folks who work at theory wellness- but for me, there's enough other options so I don't have to take the chance. I walked in to buy papers and my back pains started to flare up. so I went to the counter to lean…read moreon it since I was next anyway. when it was my turn they skipped me and when I complained they LITERALLY yelled at me to go stand in line over there. like there was hate behind the dudes voice. so I went and stood and waited and my sciatica started to flare up but at green truck they seem to see customers as a problem. when it was my turn the girl asked for ID which I kinda understand for buying papers but I got white in my beard I'm getting so old. when I said I was just buying papers she apologized to me for taking my ID which confused me. NO APOLOGIES FOR ANYONE YELLING AT ME THOUGH. I truly despise green truck. their "deals" and prices are always ass compared to most every other place. this interaction reminds me why It's worth having a medical license when rec shops are full of assholes Who hate people in pain. i hope green truck gets hit with fines or some karmic justice cause they have always been assholes who prey on people without med cards.
