We ate here for breakfast and a catch up with mates and was great! It's a small little spot under the arch way of the train tracks above you but I think it adds to the atmosphere. We all had breakfast options and I had the simple but delicious builders breakfast with bottomless filter coffee. It hit the spot and tasted great! The coffee was hot and did the job. They have quite a big menu and can't comment on the rest of the options but all of us loved the breakfast. An awesome little cafe that I'll be back to, to try the rest of their menu. Service was on point, no issues there. Highly recommended.

Excellent little spot for breakfast and all day dining. We enjoyed breakfast. The pancakes were yummy and the omelette was extremely fresh. Filtered coffee was not piping hot but welcome to Europe. Service is great and it's a cool spot by the historic harbor.

Excellent atmosphere, staff and most importantly of course, food! Welcoming and pleasant. We were delighted to find a restaurant so close to the Portsmouth historic dockyard that had great food and wasn't touristy. Cheers!

Great place for brunch or breakfast. Generous portions (try the pancakes!) and prices. Will definitely come again when in Portsmouth the next time around.

Had brunch here, it was absolutely delicious. Good size meal and the coffee was lovely. It was £15 for two people, a breakfast and coffee each. Only disappointment was the amount of diced potatoes you get (barely a handful) and the vegetarian sausages are actually those kind which are like vegetable fingers (rubbish). Definitely would come here again, though. Also, they do takeaway and they're on justeat.

What an awesome tea room! Literally on the Thames!…read more 7 of us booked a table for brunch and were not disappointed! This is quite a big barge and seats about 20 people comfortably, offering a great range of cream teas, sandwiches, breakfasts and drinks. A little quaint, traditional barge tea shop. The cups and saucers are just fabulous and the coffee mugs are varied - all adding to the variety and experience of this wonderful place. The tea is served in leaf form so you have your own strainer, which is really cool! I opted for a full breakfast today which was just right! Unfortunately they had ran out of bacon but I got an extra sausage for that! Locally sourced food which was cooked perfectly from the kitchen you can see at the end of the barge. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, offering their advice and explaining the food options as well. The service was excellent and relaxed. The most important part of finishing the meal is the separation of the bill, especially in a group. However they offered to spilt this and each of us pay separately, this worked great! Overall, this is place is highly recommended for anytime of the day, relaxing on the Thames, in wonderful surroundings, watching the swans swim by.

Did you know that, like human beings' fingerprints, each giraffe's coat is unique?…read more Yeah, I didn't know that either. But I did know that their tongues are black -- but so did everyone else at the table, so no points there. Poor old Portsmouth is having a hard time of it, so we decided to visit my stepson, who attends Uni down there, and take him out for lunch. We walked along Gunwharf Quays, which is cute and a nice centre, but really full of only chain restaurants. Giraffe was the only one we'd never heard of, so we decided to give it a go. The decor inside is really light, clean and interesting. We tried to figure out the vibe of the place, but to be honest, I think it can best be described as "international". There were pictures and drawings of people from across the globe, and the menu was very straightforward, but with twists from several different types of world cuisine. On a Sunday afternoon, it was very busy, but not slammed, and filled with families. We stood by the entrance for a full five minutes before anyone acknowledged us, which was strange, especially with waitstaff walking past us at the rate of 2 per second. Finally we grabbed one, and he sat us down. The service was very friendly, even though I was apparently a bit grumpy to the poor waiter (I was a hungy, hungry hippo), a young man who was prompt and polite when serving us. The food was very straightforward -- brunch until 4pm, burgers and sandwiches, and meat main dishes. This was very much low-key, cafe food (but well cooked and healthy, not greasy). The prices were reasonable, and we really enjoyed the food. We all got burgers, except for the littlest, who got chicken nuggets, so I can't comment on much. The burger was non-greasy and really large, and the fixings were all fresh. The skin-on chips were very tasty. If you're in Portsmouth and don't want to see football, Giraffe should do well to console you in your time of need.

Would definitely recommend, quite expensive but great customer service…read more The pancakes were incredible and came quickly. Best coffee I've had in a long time, if your looking for a cute place for a brunch date I would highly recommend.
