Rather than acting as my advocate, he seemed more concerned about upsetting the other side and doing very little to actually fight on my behalf. At some point I did ask myself if Ryan was my lawyer or my ex husband's is how badly he didn't advocate for me (in my opinion). I definitely got the short end of the deal including losing a big part of my retirement without a fight. He was really polite and organized and responsive but I needed someone to flex more muscle sort of speak given that the other side was really tough, pushy and making ridiculous requests which lead to a lot of unnecessary back and forth and which lead to me getting substantial billings. Hiring a lawyer should bring peace of mind and confidence that someone is advocating for your best interests. Sadly, that was not my experience. I would not recommend this attorney if you're looking for someone who will truly stand up for you and provide real value for what you pay for.

He then proceeded to tell me he works with one of the lawyers and they charge $1250 plus any other expenses you may incur including but not limited to mailings etc. I explained to him that before I moved forward I would be calling a few other lawyers to get their rates and he assured me that they wouldn't be the cheapest, but they do thousands of closings, so their reputation speaks for itself. I was offended by his response and to be honest - I found a wonderful lawyer who is working with me for less than 50% of their "going" rate. This to me seems like a lawyer taking advantage of an uneducated consumer. Just wanted all of you to know that if you need a good lawyer for a closing - contact me and I can send you someone who is professional and available by cell without the extravagant fees. Moral of this story: Treat your customers or potential customers with respect. If you take advantage of people, your reputation has the potential of getting tarnished. It's about quality - not quantity, but the going rate for a closing attorney is $500-$1000 - if you are paying more, you are either really rich and have no value for money or you are being cheated.
