The atmosphere is relaxed and the rest of the staff always make you feel welcome. It also didn't hurt that I live down the block. Now that Junior moved to his new spot in Union City I'll happily make the short drive to have him keep cutting my hair. There's a ton of metered spots on the street and if you can't find one he'll reimburse you for the first hour in the public lot around the corner. The new shop is huge and has a ton of amenities including a nail bar and cigar room in the back (coming soon). They definitely brought the same great feel and atmosphere from the original. I look forward to when it's 100% up and running, but for now I'll definitely keep going for the high quality haircuts.

Now, the first time I saw this shop, I noticed they had the barber pole out front and there were three male barbers. They were not, thankfully, hair stylists. I told the barber when I went in I just wanted a crew cut. I like it that way since I cannot style my hair worth a d-mn and no matter what style or cut I get, my hair never wants to do what i want it to so I just shave off most of it (or have it done) and be done with it. The guy took about 20 minutes the first time I was with him and he mostly used the electric shaver/trimmer. This is fine since it is less labor intensive than cutting my thick head of hair with scissors. The second time I was here the barber was kind enough to trim my mustache without me asking him to. No extra charge but he got an extra tip for this service.

I flat out told him no, that I would pay the quoted price when I first walked in, and when I tried to explain again that I worked with stuff which might react poorly with certain products (which I didn't ask for in the first place, so I didn't think there was a need to tell him to not put anything in my hair), he got even more heated to the point one of his coworkers had to calm him down. Or what about getting a haircut that lasts a total of 5 minutes but having to cough up $35? We all know that feeling and we hate it. With that being said, finding a great CONSISTENT barber is one of the hardest endeavors every guy has to go through. Patrons lounge barber shop is the only place I will go to for haircuts. I first met Bryan back when he was working at uptown Cutz in Morristown, NJ. Since then he has moved to Boonton and finally settled down in Elizabeth, NJ. I have not let anyone else cut my hair for the last 8 years. I live about 30 minutes away from Patrons Lounge (45 mins with traffic), but I will make that trip every time because I know I will get the cut I want every time. The shop is located right down the street from Kean University. Parking can be a bit difficult at times because it's located on a very busy street. I usually find lots of street parking spaces on Pennington Street and walk 1-2 minutes to the shop. The space and environment is amazing. Very modern and hip look with great music. There are about 6-8 chairs at the shop with 6-8 barbers working at a time. The shop is very clean and usually has some sporting event playing on the tv. The barbers there are all great but I ALWAYS go to Bryan or his two brothers. All the barbers there are great but to me these guys are the best of the best and a standard for what a barber should be. It's a family owned business and these guys are very involved within their community. The shop is open from 10am - 9pm Tuesday-Sunday which is perfect for someone like me who comes in after work. They don't take appointments and work on a first come first serve type of basis. The average haircuts usually last anywhere from 30-45 minutes. With that being said you may end up having to wait some time if there are a lot of people ahead of you. Many people consider this to be the worst thing about this shop but I feel differently. When I get a haircut that lasts over 30 minutes I know it's because my barber is taking his time and focusing on my hair. He pays attention to the details and makes sure he is providing me with the very best service. I know that I am definitely getting my money's worth. If you don't have the patience to wait then you can easily choose any of the other barbers at the shop. But if you have developed a relationship with a particular barber you will definitely sacrifice the time. I definitely recommend that you come by and check these guys out. Especially if you're a student at Kean looking for a great barber that's close by. I promise you that you will not be disappointed.
