The atmosphere is relaxed and the rest of the staff always make you feel welcome. It also didn't hurt that I live down the block. Now that Junior moved to his new spot in Union City I'll happily make the short drive to have him keep cutting my hair. There's a ton of metered spots on the street and if you can't find one he'll reimburse you for the first hour in the public lot around the corner. The new shop is huge and has a ton of amenities including a nail bar and cigar room in the back (coming soon). They definitely brought the same great feel and atmosphere from the original. I can't tell you how many different barbers I have been to and how many bad haircuts I have had to endure. A lot of people are thinking... hey it's just hair... it will grow back. Well that takes time and I also have to deal with looking like a fool for this wedding I have to go to the next day. Have you ever sat down and watched your barber try and cut your hair while texting on his phone or watching tv? Or what about getting a haircut that lasts a total of 5 minutes but having to cough up $35? We all know that feeling and we hate it. With that being said, finding a great CONSISTENT barber is one of the hardest endeavors every guy has to go through. Patrons lounge barber shop is the only place I will go to for haircuts. I first met Bryan back when he was working at uptown Cutz in Morristown, NJ. Since then he has moved to Boonton and finally settled down in Elizabeth, NJ. I have not let anyone else cut my hair for the last 8 years. I live about 30 minutes away from Patrons Lounge (45 mins with traffic), but I will make that trip every time because I know I will get the cut I want every time. The shop is located right down the street from Kean University. Parking can be a bit difficult at times because it's located on a very busy street. I usually find lots of street parking spaces on Pennington Street and walk 1-2 minutes to the shop. The space and environment is amazing. Very modern and hip look with great music. There are about 6-8 chairs at the shop with 6-8 barbers working at a time. The shop is very clean and usually has some sporting event playing on the tv. The barbers there are all great but I ALWAYS go to Bryan or his two brothers. All the barbers there are great but to me these guys are the best of the best and a standard for what a barber should be. It's a family owned business and these guys are very involved within their community. The shop is open from 10am - 9pm Tuesday-Sunday which is perfect for someone like me who comes in after work. They don't take appointments and work on a first come first serve type of basis. The average haircuts usually last anywhere from 30-45 minutes. With that being said you may end up having to wait some time if there are a lot of people ahead of you. Many people consider this to be the worst thing about this shop but I feel differently. When I get a haircut that lasts over 30 minutes I know it's because my barber is taking his time and focusing on my hair. He pays attention to the details and makes sure he is providing me with the very best service. I know that I am definitely getting my money's worth. If you don't have the patience to wait then you can easily choose any of the other barbers at the shop. But if you have developed a relationship with a particular barber you will definitely sacrifice the time. I definitely recommend that you come by and check these guys out. Especially if you're a student at Kean looking for a great barber that's close by. I promise you that you will not be disappointed. I witnessed one barber take time to text between customers. The same barber took a personal call while he was cutting a customer's hair. I don't know about you, but I'd rather a barber not attempt to multitask when it comes to a razor against my head. Parking also sucks, as others have pointed out, but as for my experience, Danny is the man. Very professional. 15 years experience, conversational, incredibly thorough and attentive to detail. Same goes for the other barbers, as far as I could tell, but it would really work to your advantage if you speak Spanish. Thankfully, I do otherwise I'm not sure I would have been doing too much talking. I got charged $15 and left him a $5 tip. I think that's average, but I've been out of the game too long to know for sure. You decide.

That might be the norm at a women's hair salon, but shouldn't be the case at a barbershop for guys. I'm not sure if you could call in for an appointment, but if that's allowed, it would definitely help. It's just your typical barbershop. There's about 8 barber chairs if I remember right. They usually blast latin music because 95% of the barbers are Spanish. They also show a movie once in awhile. Those things are nice perks, but that stuff doesn't really matter to me. I don't go to a barbershop to listen to music or watch a movie. I don't even care if my barber could speak English. He could be an illegal alien for all I care.. hah.. As long as my fade is tight, shape-up is straight, and cut done within a half hour, then I'll keep coming back. Be careful though, not everyone here can give a good cut. So watch them do someone else first if you're not sure about a barber. Speaking of waiting time, it doesn't apply only to the time before you get to sit down in one of the chairs. A lot of times, the barbers actually leave the customers DURING a haircut. I don't know why they do this, but they do. You'll have one side of your head cut, and then all of a sudden, he'll put down the clippers, and walk out to get a snack at the deli across the street. Or there's other times that somebody would come into the shop selling DVDs (either porn or bootleg movies), and the barbers would stop cutting someone's hair to go pick out some porn. Makes you think twice about letting them put their hands on your face.. lol
