To avoid damaging his career, I chose not to take him to court or report him to the Dental Federation. But now I feel obligated to leave this review, because the damage he caused is permanent. He performed unnecessary work and never solved my real dental issue. Now I live in pain. To get my teeth to function even at 30%, I would need to invest $35,000 every 10 years -- that's how much damage he caused. He ruined my life. He is a disgrace of a doctor. I compare him to a psychopath. Not only did he destroy my teeth, but he also continues to withdraw money from my bank account. Please, I am asking for those transactions to be returned. I've been coming here for years. I love Dr. Crawford, Risa, and Tammy. It's hard for me to trust certain people when it comes to my teeth. These guys been always good to me though. I've been seeing them for almost five years now. There can be some confusion sometimes as when I show up there's always new faces but these people seem to be the most constant, professional, friendly, and caring. Have patience when coming because sometimes there can be a delay to be seen by twenty minutes. Verbally call the day before your appointment to make sure you're in the system. Give yourself enough time to find parking and get to the building. Oh and they do NOT validate parking so don't be look for it. read more

After years of being a loyal patient at Fenton Family Dental, I can no longer recommend this practice due to a deeply troubling experience during my most recent visit. I've been a patient at this practice for years--back when my children were little and every single day of sick leave was saved thanks to preschool germs and young child illnesses, Fenton Family Dental's hours were the solution to my need for health care providers that cater to those that can't or don't necessarily want to take off time during the workday. Over the years, I've had more pleasant experiences than not, though I've increasing felt like the services have become more of an assembly line operation than true patient care. However, this past Saturday's visit (11/23/24) left me questioning if I should request my records and move on. Everything started off well--the front desk staff were professional, the dental assistant taking my x-rays felt like chatting with an old friend, and the hygienist gave me some great tips...but then it was time for me to see the dentist. Dr. Yohan Arambepola came in for the standard final check that dentists in this type of practice usually do after your x-rays and cleaning. He put on a pair of gloves, then proceeded to use the computer and keyboard located in the patient room. I noticed he was still wearing the same pair of gloves when he approached me. I asked him to change his gloves, and he responded by saying that everything is cleaned regularly. But something about silence must have made him think better of it, because he changed his gloves before continuing. After completing his check, he took off the gloves, left them on the table where the dental instruments are held, told me to remove the dental bib, and walked out while my chair was still reclined. I was completely taken aback, as his departure felt abrupt. I've been fortunate to see dental professionals my entire life, so I know what a typical dental visit feels like. Usually, the dentist will take off the bib and raise the chair from the reclining position, so the patient can leave. Something about this interaction felt off base. I shared my concerns with the office manager. I told her that while it's fine for someone to feel a certain way, the way Dr. Arambepola handled it was the issue. I wanted a direct apology from him, as his behavior was dismissive and off-putting. As a Black woman, I also couldn't help questioning whether there were underlying biases at play. She left the reception area to attempt to have him come and speak to me, but he refused. It left me feeling like he didn't see me as worth his time. To her credit, the office manager was very apologetic and professional. She offered to make a note on my account to ensure that I wouldn't be paired with this dentist in the future, but I still walked away feeling disrespected. I'm also concerned about patients who don't have other options--they shouldn't have to deal with this kind of treatment simply for questioning their care. I'm reminded of that Malcolm X quote from a speech over 60 years ago: "The most disrespected woman in America is the Black woman." I've contacted the owner on his Google Voice number to share my concerns directly. It's fair to note that this happened on a Saturday, and I'm waiting to see if he responds. If he doesn't...well, that's a message in itself. This experience highlights the need for better communication and professionalism, especially in patient interactions. They use to have a more open schedule -Monday to Sunday, most days 7 am - 8 pm, now the options are less and for a reason I do t know, the Doctors don't last long here. In few years I have had already 4 dentist in this office, -none of them of my own choice and never notified of the changes; however the one who was my preferred dentist left and I was not even notified of the change. I don't know if I want to continue with this office or not, therefore, I'm not sure if I want to recommend them to anyone else. read more

1 star - I do not recommend Fenton Family Dental. My experience has been consistently poor, marked by questionable billing practices and subpar dental work. They've taken unnecessary x-rays--more than what's clinically required--seemingly to inflate insurance billing. On two separate occasions, they've held refunds due to me for over a year. That's unacceptable. Each time I've had dental work done, it has either required correction at their office or by another provider. The process is never clear, the quality is inconsistent, and the dentists rotate so frequently that continuity of care is non-existent. I've also experienced overcharging and even double billing. We were referred to a specific dentist at Fenton Family Dental by a family member. Unfortunately, the recommended dentist was leaving the practice and was not taking any new patients the month that I called to make our appointments (in early 2025). My husband and I were due for check-ups and cleanings and didn't have a dentist in Maryland yet, having recently moved here from out of state. I ended up having a checkup/cleaning by a dental hygienist, and then a brief exam by a dentist who recommended I have a few fillings at the top of some teeth because of gum recission, while my husband was told he needed 3 crowns. Here are the things we didn't like about this practice and why we never went back after the having the above work completed. 1. Their business model seems very "speed" based. I did not feel there was an attempt to get to know me as a person. The dentist I had seemed to be hurried to the extent that it was off-putting. I also found him to be kind of rough with sticking stuff in my mouth. 2. Before my husband was to have his crowns done, they requested partial payment, even though they were aware we have dental insurance. We have never had a dental office require this before. 3. You have to pay for parking in the building, for us it was $15 each visit. And Fenton did not validate parking, not even for 1 hour. 4. They create the crowns in house which led to a longer appointment and the crowns were tight. He asked about flossing and the dentist said to only insert the floss between the teeth and to be careful not to pull up on the crowns. When we went to another dentist one of the crowns was identified as lifted and needs to be replaced. It feels like he was set up to fail. 5. When the treatment plan was given to us there was no discussion from staff about how things could be done over time in order to work with insurance maximums. Our insurance only provides coverage for 2 crowns a year. It would have been nice to have been told that by the office staff before the work was done. We will have to pay full price for one of the three crowns identified by another dentist that need replacement. 6. There are other things, but you get the idea. We both regret ever going to this dental office. read more

I wish I could give zero stars, to be honest. My review might not make much of a dent considering how many reviews they already have, but take my word for it--if you're looking for a dentist in Silver Spring, I strongly recommend going elsewhere. There are better providers out there where you're more likely to receive quality care. From June 2024 to now, I've spent over $6,000 at this practice, and the experience has been consistently disappointing. I waited to write this review in hopes things would improve--they didn't. Initial Impression: When I first scheduled with them, the staff was friendly. In hindsight, I think that's just how they treat new patients--to get you in the door. Professionalism: After my first visit, the front desk staff became consistently rude, never smiled, and offered little help. The dental assistants were great, and the office manager, Rise, stood out as professional and polite--one of the few positive parts of my experience. However, billing staff repeatedly claimed my dental insurance was maxed out when it wasn't. I had to contact my insurance provider directly to confirm. It felt like they were trying to push me into paying out-of-pocket without doing their due diligence. Wait Time: Expect to wait 15-30 minutes or more past your scheduled appointment time. Communication: Getting a response by phone or email is incredibly difficult. I sent numerous emails and only got one response. During a dental infection, I had to physically walk into the office because no one returned my voicemails. This lack of communication is unacceptable--especially during medical emergencies. Insurance: They do not accept dual insurance. That's understandable, but if you rely on dual coverage, you'll want to look elsewhere. Treatment Quality: I had multiple issues due to poor treatment from a dentist who has since left the practice. My root canal was done improperly--he missed one of the roots, which led to persistent sensitivity and eventually an infection. I wasn't prescribed antibiotics afterward, which should be standard. When I returned complaining of pain, the dentist gave me fluoride and recommended sensitive toothpaste. That didn't help. I went back again and was told there was nothing wrong with the root canal. Instead, I was advised to have my wisdom teeth removed. I followed that advice--but the pain continued. Then, I was referred to a specialist, but for an entirely different tooth. That consultation would have cost me $400-$1,500, so I waited. Months later, the pain worsened. I saw a new dentist at the same office, who finally referred me to a specialist for the original root canal tooth. The specialist confirmed that a root had been missed, which explained the recurring infection. Now I'm trying to schedule a post-op appointment, but after two days of calling and leaving voicemails, I still haven't received a response. Also, I was never given the option between a lab-made crown and a same-day crown--the dentist simply made the decision without asking for my input. I felt completely excluded from decisions about my own treatment. Billing Issues: At one visit, I asked a new dentist about the prior work done by the dentist who had left, since I never had the chance to address my concerns. He answered my question, then charged me for a consultation--which I didn't mind. However, when I returned because of pain directly related to the faulty root canal they had performed, I was charged for another consultation. That felt unfair, and at this point, it seemed like the practice was more focused on collecting money than providing care. Beware of a factory dental clinic like this. The dentists/hygienists are paid by commission, so they will upsell wherever they can - it starts with an x-ray before you even sit down, followed by extra fluoride treatments, crowns, teeth removal, night guards, etc. it is a very sad thing. For me, I went in for a cleaning and immediately "you need x-rays." "No, I emailed you my x-rays" Then when I sat down, the dentist came, peeked in my mouth for a minute - "you need a crown and a mouth guard" a mouth guard? "Yes, you grind your teeth" no one has ever told me that. I decided to seek a second opinion and everything is fine. No $2200 crown, no $900 mouth guard. It's really very disgusting what they do in this facility. It is shameful. read more

I went in for a routine check up/cleaning and was immediately told I needed a crown. My wife was told the same, but when she got a second opinion was told no crown was needed and that she should simply "watch" the tooth. I didn't get a second opinion and went forward with the crown. Said crown has fallen out three times in the past three years... new dentist tells me the crown was not set properly. Spent another $2k fixing the crown that probably wasn't urgently needed in the first place. Be very cautious when going to Fenton Family Dental. You will notice that they will give you a credit (I think it was $50) for posting a positive review on Google/Yelp. Any business that will pay you for a good review should be a huge red flag, especially for something like dental services. Also, be prepared to be spammed with texts, phone calls, and email solicitations after you go in.... I cannot recommend this business. Enter at your own risk. read more

I was a patient for about 7 years. For almost as long as I can remember, there have been things going wrong. For the past two years, it seems there have been bigger issues, and yet I continuously defended them. I regret not finding a new dentist sooner. Here's some highlights (with the best for last): - I went for a cleaning where the room was previously a closet. Tiny, no windows, and they forgot about me. I sat in that chair for over an hour and a half before starting my cleaning. - There's a rotating door of the dentists and one of the dentists failed to put caps on my teeth properly. They allowed for small holes to exist between teeth, unreachable by floss and a toothbrush in two locations. The dentist that was assigned to me after the other one left caught it- and then I had to fight to have Fenton pay for the fix- they billed me for months. The "manager" also tried to have me wait until the next year to fix the issue, "so I could claim it on insurance again"- which would result in me paying more money! - One of the dental hygienists commented my $4,000 bridge doesn't match my teeth that well. - The manager embarrassed me in front of a waiting room of people. When I had to return to get a cap issue fixed (that was the cause of a Fenton dentist) they were running very late. Now this was the second time I had to take leave from work for the same issue (they failed to fix it the first time) and I only had two hours. She loudly asked me if I was ok waiting extra time. I explained to her my situation and she was displeased, turning to the woman next to me, asking "would you mind waiting?" I felt terrible but I couldn't miss more work due to their errors. - The aforementioned issue almost made me leave, but I decided to give one more chance to the owner of the practice, Dr. Crawford. I have had multiple fillings and root canals over the past 7 years. Earlier this year, I had a cleaning and shortly after Was hit with the worst pain I've ever had- it came in short bursts and was debilitating. I returned to Dr. Crawford who told me I'd need a root canal. So I went in and had one. A few months later I was hit with the same pain as earlier near the recent root canal spot, but this time lasted longer and occurred more frequently, so I went back and he told me I'd need a root canal on the other tooth (without even looking in my mouth). I set the appointment for a few days later and was blindsided with the pain again, so I called the dentist and asked if they could make an appointment to get the root canal sooner. I go the next day. In the chair, an assistant looks at my file and asks why I'm there. I tell her I'm here for my root canal, and she tells me the dentist I was booked with didn't have that capability. I start crying at this point because I've spent hours away from work trying to get this fixed and the pain I am experiencing was so bad I struggled even driving to get there. They tell me it must have been a booking error, and as I'm crying in frustration and pain they tell me they'll find a place to do an emergency root canal that day, and one of the workers runs off to go find a dentist. At that point a dentist walks in, looks at my X-rays and says, "You've had a root canal on that tooth, and the one next to it!?" He then asks me if I was ever offered a night guard for grinding. That was a no. I left the dentist that day with drugs to dull the pain, and found a new dentist a week later. Her first question was, "have you been extra stressed lately?" [YES.] Her solution? A $200 dollar night guard. That was about 3 months ago, and I haven't had pain since. Imagine if one of the Fenton dentists had made that recommendation first? It would have saved me not only $2,000, but hours of debilitating pain. AVOID THIS PLACE (unless you like unnecessary dental work and spending thousands of dollars on it). read more

Another bad service. Just scheduled a routine cleaning for my husband and I two weeks. Arrived 15 minutes early and no record of our appointment. The Office Manager, Tiffany was able to squeeze my husband in but not me. This is our second time where the office process was unorganized. In August, we came in. I set in the chair after getting bite wings and then I had to leave. After and hour or waiting, my husband and I both left. I sent Dr. Crawford a text and left a a voice messsage the same day. No response. After spending my dollars at this establishment for 15 years, I am thinking it is time to move on. The staff at the front desk needs to be train and not gossip in front of the clients. I do have to add previously, I have been happy with the actual dental service but the mismanagement and being delayed is the source of the problem. I can tolerate or put my ear plugs in to not hear the gossip as long as I am seen within 15 minutes of my appointment and the service is good. I am hoping for an improvement. This was my second excellent experience at this dental practice. I arrived early and was seen before my scheduled appointment time. The staff was friendly and professional. The hygienist took her time. Finally, because I do not have any insurance, they did not charge me for another xray since I had previously had three months ago. The dental hygienists are fabulous! More importantly, I started getting texts and emails about an outstanding balance in late June 2023 for a visit in January 2023. My insurance company had never been billed for the visit. I have called 17 times so far to try to get them to submit the claim to my insurance, with no success. I have been lied to repeatedly, assured "the claim was submitted," when it was not. I leave messages; no one calls back. Sometimes people tell me, "I will call back." They never do. I had the same problem with being sent a $600 bill from the dentist after going for a visit in 2/2020. I went in for a check up and cleaning. They started by getting me to do more x-rays than has ever been required by any other dentists. Beyond the bite wings, they made me do several x-rays making me bite on things to show all my teeth for top and bottom views. Then, I had to walk into a contraption which did 360 views x-raying around my head. I was assured that all these extra x-rays would be covered by my insurance. The receptionist took my insurance information but did not call my insurance company. I received a bill two weeks later for $600 for the visit. I called my insurance company to confirm that the dentist was in-network because I had confirmed that she was on the provider directory before my visit. The insurance company confirmed with me that the practice was in-network and that the dentist was in the process of being adding to the list. They called the dentist and confirmed that no one in their office called the insurance to confirm coverage and that's why they denied their claim. I was lucky that the insurance company told me since it was the dentist office's fault, they would have to write off the cost themselves. Don't go to them because a few month's later, they tried to pull a trick of scheduling me for a follow up appointment that I did not request. I have mixed feelings about this establishment. My daughter and I were new patients and had appointments yesterday and the team was able to service the both of us at the same time. The staff was friendly, but there are a few things that I was kind of displeased with. The lady who did my x-rays absolutely did not know what she was doing. I went to do my stand up x-ray and she had no clue how to put the cover/shield on me. She tried several ways, and finally another associate came over and told her she had the wrong size and had to put it on for me. When I finally placed my teeth on the x-ray tray, the machine began to spin and it kept getting stuck on my head. It squeezed my head several times. Never have I ever. After this, we went into the room and she began my teeth x-rays. This was by far one of the most painful x-ray experiences I've had. And want to know why? Because she was using the wrong x-ray tools in my mouth. How do I know this? Because again, another associate finally came in the room and told her she was using the wrong tools. I had to start completely over. I expressed my frustration because this is ridiculous. She really needs to be re-trained. I'm not even confident that my x-rays were right. Finally, the doctor comes in and tells me that my daughter has cavities and she will need to go to a pediatric dentist. Excuse me? Is this not a family dental office with children displayed all over your website? It's extremely inconvenient to have to go to multiple offices to get your teeth checked out. Doctor was not very friendly either. He told me my fill-in was cracked, but didn't show me in my x-ray nor elaborate, but best believe I got a bill for my next "visit" that will not be taking place at Fenton. I left this practice well over 7 years ago and I have on numerous occasions made attempts to be removed from their mailing lists. They refuse! I do not care if they were the only dentist left, I refuse to ever use them again! Even though I now have their emails marked as junk, I do not like even seeing their email address in the junk folder when I periodically empty that folder. After numerous calls - Opt-out feature does not work either, so do not waste your time. Probably only serves them to know that you still exist. SAD! So the manager in this place has no customer service 1st of all I come in 30 minutes before my appointment when I was told to be 15 minutes before my appointment young lady comes in 15 minutes after me they take me in the back they take my x-rays than. Actually, my rating is 1 x 10^-12 (-1 trillion). I haven't come anywhere close to a worse experience with any medical professional or office anywhere in my 52 years of living. On March 1, the day after my right molar cracked around the ceramic filling put in by my old dentist in 2002, I went to see my new dentist for 1st time since December 2019, Fenton Family Dental. They had rescheduled me 2x before my 4 pm appointment. I get there, and they take me immediately. The vibe was off, though. I felt like I was in a beauty salon or barber shop, that's how casual the office was. The dentist comes in, and says "How's it goin', boss?" That made me even more nervous. But my tooth hurt, so I went with it. The business mgr walks in to get my payment at that pt. I signed off, no prob. They started numbing up right side of my jaw. But she came back to get more info & with my card, maskless! I'm without a mask because of the numbing process. This is a dentist's office, right? I. was. pissed. But then the Kool-in-the-Gang dentist & his assistant came back to jam more numbing agents into my mouth & jammed 1 needle right into my nerve! I jerked, but hardly not enough to jump out of my seat. Then I get this long admonishment about "You can't move. You could hurt us." Hurt them? They were hurting me, not doing a good job with numbing me, but it's MY fault that I jerked? I should've left, but they already had my $500. After waiting 5 mins, they went ahead with sanding down my crown for a crown replacement. More pain, because they didn't numb me enough. 5 more minutes passed. Then more sanding. The assistant turned on AC on that barely 50º day. I'm freezing for nearly 15mins, but can't speak because there's a contraption jammed almost into throat. I finally hummed loud enough to get their attention & got them to turn off the AC with my hand signals. At that point, I decided to just be quiet. The dentist did his work, the assistant hers. They spackled my molar's fracture 2x, added an adhesive agent, & put in a porcelain crown, with fingers crossed tooth would heal & I would not need a root canal. This is the only thing that went "right," and this is debatable. If my tooth was as cracked as this dentist said it was, maybe they should have just pull it out (I had my left molar removed in April 1990). But that would have cost less I suppose. The dentist & his office have since called to see how I'm doing. Really? You showed little care for me when I was in your office. Why would I ever contact you for anything ever? You got your $. I'd sooner let all of my 29 teeth rot out of my mouth than go to Fenton Family Dental again. It might have to be pulled soon, anyway. It's three weeks since their work, and I am in worse pain when I don't down 4 Advils every 12 hours than I was in the day I went to Fenton Family Dental. Zora Neale Hurston wrote, "All skinfolk ain't my kinfolk." That's for damn sure. Every one of my previous dentists would numb me up correctly, & pre-pandemic, everyone wore masks when working on my teeth. This lapse is unacceptable. But more important. We live in an openly dystopian world, acting like COVID-19 is gone, and we can all return to our narcissistic lives an unapologetically American asshole lives. Only perception is not reality, and the COVID variants have not received this memo. I would be extremely weary of this business. Initially went to this office because of the reviews I read and even the responses from the office to negative reviews. Here is a summary of my experience. I contacted them asking for a second opinion because I had a bad experience with a previous dentist and their diagnostic of my teeth and treatments. The front desk called back and offered a complimentary evaluation and reassured me my insurance would not be charged as I had recently gone to a dentist for my 6 month exam. I selected the Silver Spring locations because I requested the services of Dr. Fenton, they told me if I went to that location I would be able to see him. That was a lie. I saw another staff dentist. They took all new xrays and did a complete exam that they said was "complimentary". During the evaluation they told me I had two cavities. At the end of the complimentary appointment they pressured me into having the cavities filled that day. I obliged although I should have followed my gut. I was quoted one price before the procedure was done and after they added an additional $50 because they said I had to pay the deductible, although that was known to them when they quoted the initial pricing because they had already ran my insurance information. At that time I paid the total amount asked of me in full. About three months after the visit, I was emailed an invoice for an additional $150 that they claimed I owed. This was around the start of COVID-19 and their voice recording was only accepting messages for dental emergencies and said for billing questions wait until the office reopens. That was understandable so I waited and received about 3 more notices of the invoice for the next three weeks. They were being sent weekly. After about three weeks I called back several times to no avail and left over 5 voice messages. I even contact the online chat service on their website who gave me the same number to call that they does not answer nor return calls. I also sent a detailed email explaining the situation and EOB from my insurance and why I was not responsible for this money. I have received no response from that email either. To date they have sent me a collections warning if I do not pay within 15 days and they are refusing to address the issues and rectify the situation. Please take heed and be weary. These are NOT honest people. read more

I wrote a rave review 5 years ago but the practice has changed so much in that time: now there's a revolving door of dentists, pressure by some techs to whiten your teeth or get other "cosmetic" treatments, repeated billing mistakes, and a fair amount of general disorganization that has an "assembly-line" feel. I am no longer able to recommend the practice, particularly after an utter disaster with a crown. The wrong one was ordered, the next "correct" one three weeks later didn't fit, etc.---I had to return for multiple visits over two months to keep getting "adjustments." Then I was billed 14 months later for the crown for which I'd already paid. One hygienist scolded me for my flossing skills (I floss daily) and then left me in the room to watch a flossing video. It was humiliating and a waste of time. I'm not sure if other dental practices are that much better so have been lazy about looking around for a new dentist. Some of the long-time staff are great. But why the revolving door of dentists and hygienists? read more

Do not visit unless you want to have an insurance billing nightmare. They have out of network dentists working there (even though they will tell you their practice is in network- and it is, they just employe out of network dentists and THAT makes a difference) and you don't find this out until after you've been billed and then they will only tell you after you push back on more out of pocket charges that seem incorrect. You will be told to leave a message for a billing department (no live calls, naturally) and your calls will never be returned. You will email "smile@fentonfamilydental.com" and you will never receive a return email. You will try to escalate with in office managers and they will never get back to you and you may never talk to the same person again. You will have to file a formal grievance and appeal with your dental provider to get any kind of traction and that is a lot of paperwork, unfortunately. Never blindly get care here, make them prove in writing that their dentist who they assign to you is actually in network or you will be like me, fighting with a brick wall. read more

So far, so good! Just switched from Soft Touch on K Street to Fenton in downtown Silver Spring (not far from the Metro). Although Fenton is half the price for many things, their facilities and staff are just as good, and friendlier. Hoping I can stay here for a good long time. This establishment is criminal! First it was false charges (over billing insurance for services not rendered) and absolute incompetence! Toussaint is very incompetent and unethical. I advise every customer to review their insurance bill to ensure this establishment is not falsely claiming and billing for services not provided. My first time at Fenton Family exceeded my expectations. First of all they took me as a Walk-In, i.e. not having an appointment, on the day after Christmas. This is a plus for me considering I wanted to use my insurance plan benefits before the year was out. The staff was very nice. Each and every one of the front desk personnel greeted me with a smile and was accommodating. I loved watching the animal videos while I waited. There was even a monitor in the patient room that I watched as I waited on the doctor. Which took a little longer that I expected, but I'll charge that to me being a walk-in on the day after Christmas. Their dental equipment, X-Ray Machines, I spoke earlier about the monitors, etc. was very up-to-date, and functional. The technician who did my cleaning was also cordial and courteous. The only blemish to my visit was that I expected the doctor to do my cleaning, not the technician, however I didn't mind giving it a try and she did a good job, not too rough, could use a little more experience with the mouth sprayer and vac, but all and all she was very thorough. I liked the doctor, as well, he explained my X-rays and made some recommendations, as to some potentially developing problems, which was impressive. read more

This place is very disorganized, and Dr. Crawford's bedside manner is awful! A dental visit can sometimes be a bit intimidating, just know going to see Dr. Crawford made my visits even worst! It is imperative that a dentist has the skills of empathy for effective communication with patients. Dr. Crawford did not make me feel comfortable at all. Also, I wasn't very pleased the implant work done by Dr. Crawford. I've since found a new dental office who talks me through my treatment plan, and does excellent work. read more

I decided to come back to Fenton Family Dental even though they are not on my dental insurance plan. Dr. Crawford is really committed to his practice and takes a lot of pride in their work--I was excited to see that they are expanding and have addressed some of the challenges they were facing before. Things that are awesome: --Lasting Quality of Work: Dr. Crawford did a crown for me in 2011 and it still looks/feels great. When my current dental work was screwed up by a different dentist, I trust him to be able to do the repair. --Easy to Get Appointment: I was able to make an evening appointment the same day I called to get repair work. I appreciate that they are open late and multiple days a week which helps accommodate my work schedule. --Transparent About Pricing: From the beginning, both Dr. Crawford, the dental assistant, and the admin staff made clear what the cost for the service would be and that there were different options for payment if I could not afford the services all at once. I appreciated that they are mindful that folks don't always have a ton of cash for teeth issues, and that they have a reasonable insurance program if you don't have dental insurance otherwise (about $350/yr or $30/mo including several routine services at no cost). I would add that the cost of the crown was about the same (slightly less) than what I paid with insurance at the other dentist. You can also see the cost of all their services and the discount through their insurance in the online app, which helps with planning. --High Tech: Lots of cool science gadgets here that improve the experience. First, there are TVs so if you get anxious (like me) you have something to look at besides that ominous dental light hanging over the chair. Second, they brought me an iPad to set up their dental insurance so I could do everything in the office and it would take effect immediately for billing purposes. Finally, to repair the crown and get a new one that would be shaped correctly for my mouth, they used some kind of magic wand thing hooked up a monitor that took a 3D color picture of my teeth and how they sit together in my jaw. It was pretty amazing and made me feel confident that the repair work will be done right. Overall, very happy that I went back. My total appointment to get a temporary crown--from start to finish: assessment, payment, procedure--took less than an hour, and they were willing to move forward even though I had a 6 PM appointment and they closed at 7 PM. How cool to find a dentist willing to utilize the latest tech and continually working to improve their practice! read more

To whom it may concern: The Silver Spring location has some of the worst customer services I have ever experienced. I have been trying to get them to fax a dental clearance form to my doctor's office for the last two weeks. The first week I was promised a call back a total of four times because the front desk was busy. I patiently waited and no call and apparently the manager is never available. I called yesterday and I guy at the front desk, who did not say his name when he answered, claimed it was sent but my doctor's office never received it. I know it wasn't sent because the girl I gave the info to kept putting me on hold and then asked if I could send her a copy of the form because the ran out. I explained to her that it was emailed from them and asked if she was able to just print it out and she said no. I sent her the form and never received confirmation whether it was faxed or not but clearly it wasn't. I will put this review on Yelp because the service here has gone down extremely. When you visit the office everyone's head is buried in their phone as if they are just volunteering to sit at the front desk. When you call they rush you off the phone like they don't need the business. read more

I got Invisalign at Fenton Family Dental. the results were fine, but the process was a nightmare. On three different occasions I showed up for appointments only to be told upon arrival that they couldn't see me that day. The dentist I started with left the practice, and no one informed me I was getting a new dentist. My invisalign was installed by a temp who got glue on my lips, which later hurt and bled while they took two weeks to heal. When I got the Invisalign off, the doctor wasn't available to see me, only the hygienist. The admin here is so unorganized. They never know who you are when you call, they place you on long holds, and even their VM says you are calling Silver Springs - there is no s in Silver Spring! They are really unorganized and do not value your time. read more

Do not get Invisalign service at Fenton Family Dental. Not only were my results disappointing, but they kept such poor records of my treatment that I can never replace the aligners I received at the end of my treatment. Must repeat $5K process all over again. Won't be at Fenton. read more
