I ended up coming here with a friend once we found out that the wait time for trillium (near Fenway) was longer than we expected. But I'm happy that we did hit up this place because it's conveniently located nearby and it has a great selection of beers. We were looking to pick up some stouts and porters and we were pleased to find many options. The guy who was working that night was friendly and helpful with the choices and we were out of there within minutes so that we could enjoy the beers. However, I probably could've stayed longer just to marvel at the beers available. These guys are amazing: I wandered in, roamed the aisles and then asked for help when I was feeling overwhelmed by the pretty cans and bottles. OK, maybe "pretty" isn't the best word; how about "cool cans and bottles"? Yes, I guess that is better, but I was still overwhelmed, so I wandered to the front and told my story of needing a beer from Wisconsin (of all places) to make an authentic Beer Cheese Soup. I had two people looking with me, then some input from the store manager, and finally a decision was made to go with two cans of a Czech beer (fear not, I have already worked out the tie-in between the beer and Wisconsin when I make this for my boyfriend). This is a fun store, I wish I knew more about beer, but I could always learn. There was a tasting happening, but my holiday shopping needed to be finished, but a big thanks to everyone who helped (including one guy who was literally kneeling on the floor reading cans for me). read more

We were having issues with Boston. Very confused as why all the NE IPAs were clear, and tasted like Belgian yeasts. The gentlemen here set us in the right direction. Reasonable prices and awesome selection round out the harvest here, but I can't give the guys running the floor enough credit for restoring my faith in Mass. brewing. I found a parking spot that happened to be in front of this place (heading to Target)... being a lover of all things related to alcohol in general, I definitely had to check it out. Jana was incredibly attentive to understanding my preferences and made unassuming, excellent recommendations.... I am so impressed with the incredible range of products from local to worldwide they provide the consumer. There is thoughtful, intentional organization and an easy flow to the layout of the store. The general design quality and atmosphere left me feeling cozy and welcoming. I visit Boston 3-4 tines a year and I will make sure to bring my personal business to this local business. (I can take it back to FL in my suitcase!!! Yay!!!) I hope the locals understand the value of supporting and locally owned, small business such as this one. I absolutely love this place. And could probably spend hours here just looking at the beers. They have beer tastings, so you'll be lucky if you catch one of those. The atmosphere is very inviting, and there's enough room for multiple people to browse the aisles, despite the store being small. There's an incredible selection of beers, both from breweries I had heard of and breweries I hadn't. What was really cool was they had rare or seasonal beers from breweries that I love that you can't normally find. Personally, I love Nightshift brewery and Down the Road, and they had different varieties that aren't in a typical liquor store. If you have any beer-loving friends, this is a great place to get a gift! You can get single cans (which is awesome if you don't want to invest in a 6-pack of something you've never tried) and you can mix and match. read more

As an occasional visitor to Boston, I love the Craft Beer Cellar. It has an incredible selection of New England hops as well as gems from around the country. It, for example, has a great selection from Night Shift and Wicked Weed (I realize people are pissed off at them right now) and generally has a couple of selections from Singlecut and EPIC. (I tend to ignore their international beers.) They also have a great selection of whiskeys. Its hard to find Blanton's where I live but CBC usually has it in stock. The staff is friendly and knowledgable and have never steered me wrong. read more

Brand new location of the Belmont based franchise, concentrating on the ever expanding variety of craft beer. Hard to think of a better place to do it. With over a hundred and twenty independent breweries, and new ones popping up each day, it would seem that Massachusetts is at the middle of a beer-centric phenomenon. Anyhow, I managed to make my way up opening day, and came home with a nice treat from local favorite Trillium and a couple of Belgian sours from Oud Beersel. Not a bad haul. I no longer work in this neighborhood so I don't come here very often, but I try to stop in whenever I am nearby because the variety of brews is incredible and ability to make your own six-pack is surprisingly uncommon in the city. This is the kind of store that I go out of my way for. I found it by accident on my way to my doctor. So when I stopped in on my way back,I was treated to one of the best beer stores I've ever been in. I spent about 45 minutes, 6pack holder in hand,wandering around this gem of a store. This place has become my favorite place to buy craft beers. Aside from the amazing selection is the fact you can take apart any four or six pack and grab one can for purchase. Empty six packs as soon as you walk in and then go to town. Owners are super friendly and they know where everything is. Twice I asked for something I couldn't find and they went and got it from the shelf for me. Expect to pay a little for the selection and they are right in the heart of the "new" Fenway so I'm guessing rent isn't cheap. Aside from that this place is aces. read more

Additionally, this location is the best place to get kegs from - they send out a regular list with offerings and always get back to me on any questions I have (something that doesn't always happen with other beer stores or even other Craft Beer Cellars I have tried to order kegs from ).
