The curriculum…read moreis not as rigorous as what we're used to in California, and the disciplinary methods are a little unconventional but every child is different and this might work for your child(ren). Student/teacher ratio is pretty low which allows more attention towards the students. They have a wonderful program which allows kids to have breakfast with their parents before classes in the morning. Breakfasts are really cheap -- your basic local breakfast stuff: eggs, bacon/spam/Portuguese sausage, rice, cereal etc -- but it allows you to spend time with your kids before you rush off to work. Some of the teachers are inexperienced as they do hire new graduates to join their staff. My only gripe with this place is that they did not challenge the kids enough. My child was there for only half a year but there wasn't much homework and the curriculum was really more towards playing than learning. After we moved back to California, my child had a hard time keeping up at the new school where the curriculum was so much more rigid and intense. Strangely, Hongwanji is a private school and my child is now attending a public school. I had expected more from a private school!

I went to school here many many years ago. So I can't comment on the current curriculum or anything…read morerecent. But what I learned here was social interaction, community, religion, sports, and music. Because of Hongwanji and the YBA, I was a JPO, cub scout, boy scout, basketball player, and volleyball player. I learned how to serve lunch, clean up, and be a part of a team. I learned how to swim and 'jump rope for heart.' I learned how to budget my allowance by buying either the fried noodles or the Star Wars cards. I was a part of the 40K relay team and we were awarded the youngest team. I marched in a competition. I went to Disneyland. I got in to a lot of trouble but it was the teachers who cared about everyone that kept me from being an outright delinquent. Thank you Mr. Date, Mrs. Kimura, Shannon's Mom, and Mrs. Endo. They also stimulated my love of reading. And last but not least, the Hongwanji cookbooks are my most used especially when I'm ono for some comfort food. I learned how to cook because of these Hongwanji cookbook. Back then it really was a village raising each and every child.

My younger son had some difficulty transitioning to Kindergarten during this pandemic year, but his teachers, counselors and principal worked together to help him adjust and I am very grateful for their support. Morning traffic can sometimes be heavy through the residential area, but I feel most schools have similar situations. We were fortunate to get in through the GE and have been happy with our choice.

She also made a Chinese kid cry which is very bad and she should just quit and retire plus nobody likes her and wants her here. She told a kid to shut your mouth several times probably over 10 times by now. Also her assignments makes no sense and she would also take the 8B social studies teacher Mr. Flatts work and assigns them to us and I don't get why she won't make her own work as she has so many time plus sometimes the class would be waiting outside her classroom and she wouldn't open the door until the bell rung and we would be technically all late or she's in the office doing her work and would be late to her class and it's really unprofessional of her and even worst is there's a bunch of reports probably over 100 reports about Ms. Gum and she isn't fired yet and some staff in the school doesn't like her. The students here are both bad and good I got sexually harassed two times by a kid and there's barely and good people because in my own experience some of my "friends" I made in this school aren't really that nice and they don't keep your secrets and once someone finds your secret or something that happened to you that would be hot topic for weeks. Manoa elementary is supported by the Manoa Lions Club which has an annual fundraiser breakfast here. This year it's being held on Sunday, June 4, 2017. Manoa Elementary was one of the first English speak schools established in Hawaii and was founded on October 11, 1854. Registration for summer school is June 1-29 for 2017. A long time ago, when I was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce aka the Jaycees, I used to come to this elementary school to help the Manoa Jaycees with their annual Craft Fair. It was held outdoors on the lanais surrounding the classrooms. The grassy areas were also utilized for booths for more vendors and even pony rides and games for the children! Today, I'm having breakfast in the cafeteria. It's a fundraiser for the Manoa Lions Club. The kitchen is spacious and clean. The seats and tables are functional. The lighting is good. There's no air conditioning, but the windows are open this morning and I can feel a gentle breeze. I'm sure that during school hours, the students enjoy this environment. Manoa, in general, is a pleasant, established community. It's no wonder that many organizations gather here. Parking is plentiful, free, and convenient! Restrooms and water fountains are available. What more could one ask for?

Reviewing a craft fair seems more like it belongs in a community activities brochure - it's an event that takes place on campus but it's not really a school program for students or teachers. Kinda the same opinion re whether reviewing a carnival on campus is helpful. Also, note that some reviews refer to classes offered by the Adult Education Program on campus - after hours for a fee. Yes these are classes held on the KHS campus but it's misleading to suggest that classes like Thai Cooking are a curriculum choice for students. Mahalo to those who noted the dedicated teachers. Yes the school buildings are old and bathrooms can be pretty bad. The school isn't given funds for landscaping, full time gardeners, or upscale interior designers. There are custodians whose daily tasks are basic maintenance. Getting necessary repairs can be a bureaucratic nightmare BUT maintaining a safe and functional appearance is the responsibility of the occupants, the students and teachers.

Kaimuki High School is home to one of the largest craft fair and oh I've never got the chance to check them out as I'm always working and since I'm on the tail end of my vacation time...my boss gave the the few extra days which I'm just so grateful as it got me a chance to give this place a visit. Pretty much overtaking majority of the school as you can find vendors down each hall though all are outdoor setting the slight shade does help as it still gets crazy hot in the afternoon. Very impressed of the variety they have here the parking does get challenging if you don't go early enough though since we went on the last few hours I did manage to get a parking as the early birds left. Me and my bestie hit the ground and tried to check off our gift list we manage to find items for ourselves as well loving all the fun and cute items they have. As we got hungry there was a few food trucks which is a nice convenience as well but what a wonderful place to get a lot of your shopping done and hope that I can do this again as it was a fun experience. The pool is kind of small so old people use it for aerobics so it's all good for the community. Lots of memories growing up here and nearby. We started coming here for the recreational space that this school provides…read more Graciously, they leave the gates open so that the kids can play on the playground and climb the rope web. playground has two slides, one big and one small, a monkey bars, and a zip line. the padding is a light foam which helps when the kids fall. the closest basketball courts have no nets so you need to walk around to the park side to play. there are water fountains, a bathroom and seating area nearby too definitely one of our fave parks to come to
