It's not a good reflection of good Christians that want to follow the rules of god, like being a good person. It would be a much better camp if the teachings weren't so odd. Can't speak much on the staff bc we barely interacted with them, they seemed mostly unbothered and nonchalant. We rent a screened shelter for 2 nights, Fri - Sunday. We actually got the last open shelter for the weekend, so we got lucky! We stayed in section 9. Very pretty area. Most of our fellow campers were courteous, although on our first night we heard music blaring from another part of section 9. For us to be able to hear it from where we were, they must have been LOUD so I can only imagine how their actual neighbors felt. And even though quiet hours are at 10, this music went on until probably around 11:30ish range. I also heard screaming and very loud laughing. Sounded like teenagers maybe. Remember people.... We all came out here to enjoy nature. Be courteous if you're sharing the space with other campers. Leave no trace ALSO includes noise pollution. It's ok to play some music and have a good time - I know I did! But I kept my music very low, and made sure to keep my voice down or at least not at such a volume that I could be heard across the camp ground. Anyway aside from that we had a wonderful time. The shelter was clean, the surrounding area was free of litter. We hiked, swam, made campsites, cooked, played games, rested in the grass, and had a grand time. I'd have to put this park up there on my list of top 5 parks. It's has everything! It definitely gave me *summer camp* vibes. The only thing I probably wouldn't recommend is the boat rentals. They are quite pricey. If you can swing it, bring your own!

What's really great about Tyler State Park is that it is not too far off of I-20 and the heart of downtown Tyler. It's actually kind of mesmerizing how close this preserved state park is from the city and how many people don't take that quick drive on a spring day. There's plenty of hiking to do on the almost one thousand acres of land. My girlfriend and I hiked the B Loop hiking trail, which is a little over 3 miles and was a very easy adventure for us. I wanted us to do more, but our legs were tired, so we called it there. Instead, we went to the Northside Day-Use Area to get our feet in the water and enjoy the view of the lake. Overall, it's a really fantastic park and I hope to return to do all A through D on the hiking trail. RIYL: Adventuring through the trees

I took a hike with my little man to see the pine trees lined up and then the next morning took my daughter the short way. The kids loved the lake and my mom loved the fishing. The power plant across the lake lights up pretty but the constant hum coming from it is a bit strange. All and all it was a nice little trip and I'm looking forward to going back. I didn't get a chance to go on the island and I'd really like to go back to do that trail.

So, after Thanksgiving, I was already in East TX and decided to drive to the park to check it out. Checkin was easy at the ranger headquarters. I went inside to purchase a magnet. Their stickers selection was limited and the designs were unappealing. My first impression with the creek lake that it was very beautiful and reminded me of Lake Catherine State Park in Arkansas. The beach portion doesn't allow dogs, so I just viewed it from the park. There's a total of three trails. I found one, but not the other. I searched high and low to find it, but was unsuccessful. I ended up going on the Island Trail. The view of the power plant was nice. The plant was loud. The Island trail was a smooth hike. The path is covered in pine needles and if you look closely, you can find armadillos, rabbits, and field mice. Now the camping portion was very crowded and the sites were close to each other. I didn't see any private sites. It reminded me of Blanco State Park; where you're just close enough to your neighbors where you can see and hear them. How fun! This park isn't worth coming back to explore. I didn't like it much.

The campsites themselves are big, spacious, and peaceful. There is a train that rolls through twice a night, but aside from that it's quiet and relaxing. Overall, we loved it and would absolutely come back.

Located on the Big Cypress Bayou, the scenery is gorgeous. Two years ago, we stayed in the Couple's Cabin. It has great upper and lower decks. This time, with Reesa and Ricky, we stayed in the Texas 2 Step. Dual connecting cabins. Loved it. There's also about 30 or 40 RV spots. There's a private boat ramp. Riverbend Outfitters keeps kayaks here for rent. We've gone kayaking twice. It's fun, relaxing, and beautiful. The owners are very friendly and attempt to solve any problem you might have. The cabins are big and comfortable. They have satellite tv and WiFi. A full kitchen makes mealtime easy. Be warned, cell service here is terrible. You are out in the middle of nowhere! We have absolutely loved our stays here, and will definitely return. Check their website!

We also ordered from the canteen and it was the slowest service I have ever experienced. The employees seemed completely lost and not sure how to run it. Our party arrived and EVERYONE at the park had their own snacks, food, drinks etc. So we paid $50 for pizzas for the party and one of the women in the cafe was kind enough to supply the drinks after i explained to her that i added the birthday package to the reservation and dont even know what i paid for because nothing about paying the extra amount made it a special birthday for my daughter. The bear appearance is included in the "birthday package" but there are only set times for the bear to appear and you have to gather your entire group to go to him. (i was told he would only be at the arcade and that's where we would have to go to see him) But then he appeared near by the cafe an hour & 1/2 later once almost all of our kids were gone :( The cafe told me they couldn't refrigerate our birthday cake, then said that they could. VERY VERY VERY TERRIBLE communication and so embarrassing for me with the other parents that attended. A couple of the other kids from school were considering having their birthday there and now ARE NOT. Ultimately, im just glad the kids were ages 5-7 to hopefully not notice the inconveniences and chaos, but it stuck with the parents. I will 1000% never book another party or even event here.

It's huge but you can find your way pretty easily, the cabins are old but it's fun because it's kind of a throwback and the counselors are super entertaining, and as for the things removed, it's still fun, even without NOLA roasts, Non-Or Campers, etc. It encourages activity and fun and has so many choices of what to do. I have a favorite horse, she's very nice and most of the horses are great too. All in all I love this camp very much (also it's a great break from tech) and it's the one place where I can fall asleep with melatonin (it tires you out in a good way) and my anger issues get a lot better here because it's very calming. As for the price, I think if you can afford it you should DEFINITELY have your kid come here. It's near Shreveport, Louisiana but if you live somewhere too far to drive (i.e. a kid lives in Vegas) then you can fly and they'll pick you up at the airport and get you over on a bus. 10/10 recommend. You make amazing memories and life long friends.

The cabins are falling apart and have many cracks where bugs find their way in. Two years in a row my cabin was infested with spiders. The last time I went the cabin flooded with the smallest amount of rain and there was an ant problem. The workers there have a problem with favoriting certain campers. The food is cheap and frankly very bad. You are never able to tell if you are eating fish patties or chicken ones(not an exaggeration). Ever heard of Sysco? Because that is all you eat. The cheapest and lowest quality food I have ever seen/ate. The councilors are very young themselves and are not old enough to be responsible for your 6+ year olds. Don't get me wrong, it used to be okay. Until, they got a new head director who is not one to pass down little traditions that made Camp Fern what it was. Anything that people found joy in was removed; non-honor campers, Nola roasts, some camp songs, ect. If you haven't gone to this camp you wouldn't understand. In conclusion, this camp is not for you unless you want to waste money to get the cheapest quality of everything. These people only care about your money, not your experience.
