I was very disappointed with how our accessibility concerns were initially handled at Little Buffalo State Park. Pavilions 1 and 2 are extremely difficult, and for some people with disabilities, practically impossible to access from the parking area. I called the Little Buffalo State Park office on 7/9/26 two days prior to our family gathering to simply request to have the gate at the end of the access road to be opened temporarily (as we had the last several years), so family members with serious mobility limitations could be dropped off closer to our Pavilion 1. We were not asking to park there permanently. When I was told they would not temporarily open gate for us I asked to speak to Park Manager Jim Eckert to discuss this but he never called me back. There were 2 office employees I spoke to 7/9 and 7/10. One office employee named Tracy, who showed little empathy or willingness to help and ultimately hung up on me when I suggested going above their head and call DCNR (Department of conservation and natural resources.) Thankfully, Ryan Donavan at DCNR apologized and stepped in immediately and resolved the issue by making sure the gate was opened for drop-off. DCNR was wonderful, responsive, empathetic, and helpful--and the park rangers were also wonderful. We also found that a wheelchair could not even get through the bathroom stall entrance serving Pavilions 1 and 2. And not even a grab bar near the urinal. People with disabilities should not have to fight for basic access. The Americans With Disabilities Act is the law, not a suggestion! Little Buffalo State Park needs to seriously address accessibility at Pavilions 1 and 2 and how accommodation requests are handled by park manager Jim Eckart and staff. They were not at all empathetic or willing to help us find a solution. I would not want this to happen to another family. Thank you DCNR for stepping in.

We were at site #14 right on the creek than runs through campground. They have a sweet deal if your local for seasonal use. We were from out of town, not full time RV but travel throughout US six months out of the year. If you go here don't forget to get some of the fresh fruit and tomatoes in season. We got huge heirloom tomatoes for 3 for $1. Unbelievable, they were so good. Reasonably priced, we paid $49 a night! Sell good dry firewood too!

It was nice to sit outside with the leaves falling. This was special to me as I live in Florida and do not have the privileges of seeing falling leaves. Jamie the owner was very pleasant, informative. I tried calling for two days to make reservations, left messages she did return my call. Jamie is running the campground during the week by herself, said she was working outside and apologized for not answering the phone. Don't let this deter you, I am sure you would be very please!! Indoors is 2 sets of bunk beds, a small table with three stools, some hooks, a dresser, and an AC. First impression it was pretty clean and simple. When looking on the top bunk between the mattress and the wall it got a little gross however. Mattresses were okay, not the comfiest but good enough. The AC was a life saver with keeping it cool. The bath house is conveniently located near the cabins. This also was pretty clean. The exterior curtain where you change is not quite wide enough to give full coverage though. Shower water gets hot and the water pressure is decent enough. The staff were friendly and the other campers seemed nice as well. Will definitely be staying here again!

Pinch Pond was the closest campground to our house and she thought it would be a good fit. She only made reservations a day in advance for a week's stay and I was glad they were able to accommodate her as she paid cash and they held the reservation without payment. They also recommended a cheaper option, their sister campground at Mt Gretna which was $250/week but wasn't able to accommodate our size camper. When we inquired about a month's stay were told the fee was $800 and an application/approval would be required however they were booked for that length of stay. This campground is open year round and apparently busy year round. The woman checking her in was very thorough in her explanation of the policies, a little winded perhaps but I learned things I didn't know before and I was only there two weeks ago. A week's stay on a no frills rv site was $300, taxes included. She used our rv so we had to set it up and will need to tear it down at the end of stay. Given that that's an unusual situation and they require gate passes I expected it to be a problem. I was pleasantly surprised it was a non issue. I was even provided my own gate pass. The sites are not clearly marked and hubby got very annoyed when we found ourselves meandering through narrow pathways with a 28' camper in tow. Ultimately we had to call the office and ask for an escort as we were clearly lost within the campground. She knew going in that the constant boom of gunshots would surround her but didn't expect it to disturb her young son as much as it did. With every boom on the first day he held his ears and screamed for them to stop. They've now stayed two nights and it's still disturbing to him. My daughter's biggest complaint thus far is the amount of spotted lantern flies and that they even find their way inside. Both very valid concerns.

Bashore Scout Camp is and always will be one of the highlights of my summer! I'm a Star Scout,…read moreclosing in on Life, and have been going to Camp Bashore for about 4 years now. That's 4 weeks, 28 days, at this heaven for adventurous teenagers. There are just so many experiences that you can get from Boy Scouts, but nowhere else! For example, this past week, I shot a shotgun for the first time, which was a really fun experience. The counselors are all outstanding and cheerful. Shoutout to Ryan B, Ryan R, Cayden, Griffin, Q, Charlotte, Deegan, Otis, Alec, Doug, and all the other amazing counselors who have made my scouting experience better. Dining hall songs and chants also make the week better. Not to mention that the lake at Bashore has some of the best bass fishing in the area. I currently hold the all-time lake record for biggest fish (30 inches. Thank you Devin for telling me where all the best spots are) Camp Bashore also has very good facilities. In the shooting range, all the guns are cleaned, maintained well, and the range is run safely. The dining hall and shower house is clean, and the food is great compared to the surrounding scout camps. The trading post also has delicious slushies Aside from the experiences, camp bashore also offers various scouting opportunities, such as merit badges, a mile swim, and the Blur Mountaineers program, for young scouts looking for easy ranks. The PA Dutch Council has much to be proud of in Camp Bashore. My son and I just returned after a…read moreweek at the camp, and we were very impressed with the programming this camp offers scouts. 1. Accomodations: Standard platform tents were in good shape, with newer tents present in our campsite. Standard camp latrines were present in camp, but two bathrooms with flush toilets and showers were near campsites. Newer aluminum army cots provided decent sleep. Food in the dining hall was an 8 out of 10, with a salad bar always present, and with decent variety besides breakfasts, which usually consisted of eggs, potatoes, and something else...but otherwise, good meals with good serving sizes. 2. Staff and Programming: Most impressive part of the camp. Much of the staff had 3-5 years experience, a sure sign that the directors offer a work environment that keeps counselors coming back. Camp Director and Program Director both had 30+ years experience, and clearly led by example. Staff was very attentive to individual scout's needs, and even in week 7, had a high morale and enthusiasm. Programming of activities was excellent, with a wide offering of merit badges, COPE, adult training, camp-wide games, open periods, and the Trailblazer program, which offered older scouts acivities such as bouldering, mountain biking, and mountain boarding. Also, the first-year scout program called "Blue Mountain Man", was a very-well run program purposed to give first-year scouts basic skills and meet advancement requirements to get them to first-class. Staff in this program was helpful, friendly, courteous and kind towards these scouts. Closing campfire and OA callout were amazing. 3. Facilities: Bashore is not the biggest facility, acreage-wise, but it does have top-notch equipment, ranges, and watersports. A 3D range and skeet-archery made the archery merit badge interesting. The facilities present were clean, well-kept, and used well. In some ways, having a small camp facility lets the boys spend less time walking between activities. It was a really good week, and I'm now a fan. Thanks, staff, for a great week in 2014!
