Well, being as my last several reviews have been either Haikus, Songs or poems I figured I would do another one while here enjoying various places around Belfast, Ireland. Here's an Irish folksong-style review of Fibber Magees: Oh, Fibber Magees, a pub so grand, In Belfast town, it takes a stand. With friendly staff and patrons too, It's the place to be, that much is true. For traditional Irish music, you can't beat, The sessions they hold, you'll stomp your feet. Fibber Magees - When Ireland can't miss some Irish musicians - Bars Near Me - Belfast, BFS

We came in here when we were heading somewhere else and to our surprise and luck some live music was getting started. This was very fun. The place is nice but the crowd definitely made the experience less than stellar. Obviously when it's crowded you lack personal space but some people were just so oblivious and downright shoving. Everyone is here for a good time but we can still be polite. read more

We were looking for a place we could have a pint and listen to music. Fibber Magees is the place. Again it has the traditional look of an Irish pub you'd come to expect. The entrance is behind the building which is a little odd, but it is connected to the restaurant/bar in front of it. You can walk through both as there are doors creating a throughway. read more

This was a great pub and was a great way to spend an evening in Belfast. It got a bit busy, but it wasn't terribly crowded. Service was great. read more

Came for the relatively cheap prices and a good hearty dinner and got exactly that. Tried an amaretto sour for the first time, so I've not no bar for what it's supposed to be, but it was refreshing and pretty nonetheless. Ordered the soup of the day -- potato and leek -- and it was just fine. Chicken caesar was not a real caesar -- which is a gripe I have with so many other restaurants I could write an essay about it -- but was a lovely salad nevertheless. Atmosphere and service was also quite lovely. A pleasant experience overall. read more

We actually ate at Robinson's bar that houses Fibber Magees. We got the Irish stew, barbecue chicken, fish and chips, and beef Guinness pie. The Irish stew was amazing, barbecue chicken was just OK, fish and chips not so good, the chunky chips were bad, and the Guinness pie was average. We were expecting more from this restaurant. Maybe it was just a bad night? read more

We stopped in for lunch and a Guinness. This is an old fashion Irish bar that attracts a mix of locals and tourists. There are a number of different bars and restaurants that are owned by the same company, so if you don't like this one, go through the doors to the next one. The food was good but not outstanding at this place. read more

We were in here on Friday night, I think if memory serves me right I had actually been in here before, albeit a very long time ago! We managed to get seated at a table along with a few others, and then got our drinks from the bar. Service was reasonably quick and the prices were standard. They had a live band playing who were fantastic, I really enjoyed the music! Not too busy for city centre on a Friday night, which was grand. I spoke to a few people there and it seemed a lot of people had been there all day, having been watching the horse racing. It was a decent place to spend an hour or so while waiting on the train, but I don't think it would be my first choice for a night out mind you, but we had a good time nonetheless! read more

Best pub in Belfast. I've spent many great nights here. Just in for a Guinness at the end of a great weekend. A quiet pint, an old fashioned pub, great music in the afternoons and evenings. Just around the corner from the Crown which should be visited on an educational basis then out the back door and nip into Fibbers for your Guinness. No visit to the city is complete without an hour (or so) spent in Fibbers. read more

A traditional wee bar at the back of Robinson's, It offers a quieter drink whilst still being part of the hustle and bustle of Robinson's. The decor is stereotypically Irish and traditional and the bar hosts live music and great beer! Its a really enjoyable wee spot and whether you're there for a quick drink or settling for the night you can be sure it'll always be good craic. The weekend sees the bar just as busy as the rest with stags and hens frequenting the landmark wee pub. But this adds to the excitement of a good night out in Belfast! Was in Belfast several years ago when politics were still a bit more touchy. Went to Fibbers with the wife. Now I am an American of Irish heritage, ancestry, but bottom line an American. I am catholic so no secret which side I'm on in the politics in northern Ireland. Putting that aside I had a shirt on with jeans and shoes of course. Had on a full zip hoodie and was wearing my Irish flat cap. Several people in the bar with hats but a bouncer came immediately over to me and said you need to take that f'n hat off. I'm a big guy and have always lifted weights and could have put this guy through the plate glass window or whatever but didnt do it being out of my element in northern Ireland. There was a great musician playing so we stayed rather than doing the previously mentioned or leaving. Great bar and people and the music was great. Never understood the hat thing. Know a flat cap can represent Irish, catholic maybe, republicanism in thier sense, but thought this bar was in the Irish, catholic, republican area. Maybe the bouncer was a proddy loyalist don't know! read more

Ok so this is surprisingly my first time at Fibber Magees (not sure what rock i've been living under) lol. It was St Paddy's day weekend so of course it was gonna be busy, but my god it was bunged and so it was difficult getting served at the bar which is a real pet hate of mine! The wine wasn't the best quality in my opinion and although I would generally drink anything, I had to switch to beer it was so acidic. All in all not the best night i've ever had and I wouldn't rush back - but the music was brilliant and for that alone I am giving 3 stars :) read more

Traditional pub where you must get drunk at least once in your life! Lots of locals, the craic is great, you'll make friends with everyone. Trad music most nights means be ready to dance with (former) strangers. Grumpy, efficient bartenders - perfect! P.S. Don't let your GPS fool you. Walk into Robinsons Bar, walk out what appears to be the back door, and enter Fibber. read more

A strong 3 stars for this traditional pub. The doorman wasn't the friendliest, but once inside it was just what you want from a pub. Music, a little dancing on the side and a good pint. Got there mid-afternoon on a Saturday and was able to find a stool with some space, but that only lasted a while as the place was quickly filling up for the Saturday night crowd. I guess it's considered to be combined with Robinson's which is seen directly across from the famous Europa hotel, this place surely gets the traffic of both locals and tourists like us. The food we had was just regular pub food, nothing great but you are not there for the food. The best part was the pint and the music. Would suggest this as a good way to start your evening before heading out to the better pubs Belfast has to offer. read more

Fibber Magees is kind of like a slice of old rural Ireland in the middle of modern Belfast. It's a really cosy little bar out the back of Robinsons where you're not likely to get a seat, but are very likely to hear a good traditional music session. Like other reviewers, I'd agree that it gets a little too busy sometimes, but since you can either nip outside easily for some air, or slip through the doors and into Robinsons, overcrowding isn't an insurmountable problem! read more

I always get a bit confused by this bar especially as it seems to be attached to the more popular (and lairy Robinsons) and both seem to attract totally different crowds. Having said that it's been the scene of many's a great night and it's nice to see the 'oirish' pub thing done with a modicum of taste. There's usually some trad music on in the evenings and the little booths at the front are perfect for a more private quiet drink. It's tucked away in a busy part of town so you can always get taxi's home and there are plenty of eateries round about. Plus points for the Guinness as well. Pros: Cool authentic little bar. Cons: It's pretty dark in there. read more

This place is a Gem in Belfast. First experienced it on my Hen do in May 2010, went back again in June 2010 and Dec 2010. Absolutely love the place. A good pub to drink in, great craic, an eclectic mix of people and lets not forget the Music- live traditional music Fiday and Saturday nights- the place is jammed but well worth you feet being stepped on. Make sure you visit it at least once in your lifetime! read more

We popped in for a drink after dinner on a Thursday night and it was seemingly becoming more crowded as we were headed out to leave. Live music most nights it seems, however we had an early morning next day but we saw the musicians were setting up. Right around the corner from the Europa so it's in a popular area. We were tourists and I gotta say this pub has a chill atmosphere, music was great, and people were lively. Fellow customers (locals) were nice and approachable. It's like going into a pub in Donegal or Galway, it's got a great old-world traditional Irish vibe, and feels authentic too. It's small and kind of narrow, but always packed to the rafters with revellers and groups, and the mood is always fun and positive, with the crowd (in good weather and on warm nights) sometimes spilling out into the courtyard area out front. It's got a really mixed crowd, all ages who enjoy Irish traditional music, because they have live bands and groups playing here most nights, and you can hear the music before you even make it near the door - probably a bit too loud in my opinion! It's a great bar to bring visitors or tourists too, as they would enjoy that traditional feel and experience. They sometimes let too many people in, which is the only negative. read more

I was in Fibber's on Tuesday evening 31/5. I have to say I was less than impressed with the service at the bar or shall I say lack of it. The young girl (Noreen) was doing a fabulous job, smiling and very plesant even though she was doing the work of possibly 3 people. The fact that my Canadian friend was chatting and totally oblivios to the 15 minute wait i had at the bar was the only reason I remained. We were sitting at the door and I saw an awful lot of people coming in and leaving again and I suspect the bar queue was the reason. Maybe employng more staff for the bar ( I dread to think what a weekend is like ) or paying the young lady triple wage's which she was well worth would be appropiate. I will not be rushing back. read more

Fibber Magees is a very unique bar and atmosphere that is second to none in Belfast. The place is always bouncing which music on no matter what time of day it is. Now, you could not go there all the time, but when you go there, its always brilliant craic. Friday's nights are the best time to go. Traditional Irish music is the norm here. Though if you request other songs, more or likely it ll get played. Always filled with either local or tourists which makes for a great atmosphere. If you're looking for change of night out, Fibber is the place for you. read more
