I hired Fidler to sell my house, after using them for the purchase 12 years ago. A lot has changed. In 2011 the service was cheap but reasonable for the price. My experience in 2024 was horrendous. Unnecessary delays, poor communication, 40% increase in my fee compared to the estimate, and overall a complete lack of any client service philosophy - this culminated with a response from the 'CEO' about my complaint that "I do not deal with complaints". I would have happily paid twice the fee for a competent firm with better, quicker service. I will never use Fidler again and strongly discourage anyone attracted by a low fee quote. read more

We were first time buyers with a mortgage arranged so it should have been a simple process. The process was eye wateringly slow. At times I had to chase e-mails for several weeks to get any response at all. One more than one occaision I needed to call the firm to ask who was handling my case because I was receiving no responses for weeks at a time - and the solicitor handling my case changed three times. At one stage, my case was swapped to a new solicitor (I wasn't told about the change) who did nothing at all for a long period. When I spoke to him to find out why he promised to complete a whole load of work by the next day and contact me then, but when I heard nothing it transpired he had left the firm the same day without doing any of the work. The first time I was invoiced the charges were £16,000 too high. The corrected invoice was then £1000 too low. In the end I was called within 24 hours of completion and two weeks after paying to be told a third invoice had now been issued and I needed to find £1000 on the spot in order to complete the following day. I had other problems as well, but these were the ones that stand out. I contacted Matt Slade, the partner in charge of Conveyancing over a month ago and despite several e-mails chasing him he has yet to comment about the invoicing. No one from the firm has at any point appologised for any of the issues I've raised. There is absolutely no reason to use Fidler & Pepper. I should have used a local firm and saved a bit of cash. We used Fidler & Pepper after we accepted an offer on our flat via Purplebricks. There were problems after problems. This was a no chain sale of a leasehold property. I had paid for and arranged the leasehold pack the day I accepted the offer and it would be ready in a week. I emailed F&P the details of who to contact about getting the pack when ready in a week. 4 weeks later the leaseholders were contacting me and telling me that no one had contacted them. The buyer started contacting me saying that his solicitors had left messages but these were not being returned. I complained about this amongst other things. Mr Slade picked up my case and things seemed to progress then he went on holiday and passed the case back to the original person. Weeks later an issue came up with the garden being shared. This was news to me and the issue was not the fault of F&P. However by the time this came up the buyer had already said he was sick of the waiting and had emailed me saying any more hitches and he will pull out of the sale. Of course this was not going to be a quick solution. I had asked exactly what could be done and what it entailed but never seemed to get a straight answer with what needed to be done or costs. Adverse land possession was discussed and land transfer etc I looked these up and although adverse land possession looked unlikely under the circumstances land transfer was definitely a no. It looked costly and time consuming. I spoke with lady looking after my case and she was looking into this. I told her I was not happy to do it but she said the sellers had requested it being looked into. I felt I needed to make it clear this was not under my instruction as I didn't want to be charged for this. Eventually I wanted an end to the chasing around as did the seller. After speaking to him he told me he would pull out of the sale. It was 12 weeks since he had made the offer and there was no sign of the nightmare ending. As I was with Purple bricks I worried about another sale and using F&P as I had to pay more not to. When I emailed to ask how could I ensure I wot get the same bad service. I was politely told that they probably are not the right solicitors for me as they can't do land transfer. Really .... After I had said I am not happy to do this; clearly they didn't listen at all. They agreed not to charge me anything and I haven't bothered to contact them since. One of the main issues was not their fault but the way it was dealt with and so late on in the process was poor at best. If this had been the only issue I would not have been so annoyed with the service but it was one of so many. Although I didn't pay any money while this went on I was paying for two houses so I have now paid an extra Three months council tax, water, gas electricity and mortgage and service charges etc Since, I have completed the sale with another buyer and another solicitor. Oddly the main issue there was part of the lease was missing from land registry. As is happens I had the original so we found the complete document. But they never even noticed this. From my experience I would say stay clear. read more

The service we received from Fidler and Pepper was unprofessional right from the word go . When my mother died , Fidler and Pepper took over as Power of Attorney without permission and due to their incompetence my father's care home bill went unpaid for over a year incurring interest charges . When my father died , his house was cleared and it stood empty for 30 months before Fidler and Pepper decided to act . During this time a pipe burst due to the severe winter and caused considerable water damage and it transpired that the Fidlers had not insured the property adequately and this scenario dragged on for another year before anything was done to repair the damage . During this time the property had lost £24,000 in value . When the property was finally sold , it was due to the fact that they had put it up for auction despite the fact that we had been made a cash offer and the amount the property sold for at auction was less than the cash offer we had received . When my father died , he had left quite a few stocks and shares and the Fidlers didn't notify us and sold quite a few of the shares . It was only after a meeting with them that the remaining shares were transferred to my sister and I . My late father also left a will which was never disclosed to us by the Fidlers and only received a copy after I'd made a formal request to the Fidlers . . Even then the Fidlers changed the terms of the will by putting value on certain items which had to be paid for . In my opinion , Fidler and Pepper are one company of solicitors I'd advise anyone not to touch with a bargepole . read more
