I've really enjoyed my time at Fielding. I'm in the Ph.D. program after completing a Master's here, and their curricula is rigorous and current while still being flexible enough for adult learners returning to university. The professors are enthusiastic stewards of knowledge and many are great mentors. The labs do a great job of facilitating research and helping students do work that is rigorous, repeatable, and publishable. I will say remote learning, just like remote work, requires you to be competent at time management and fairly good at self motivation - if you struggle with that and need someone to give you a to-do list for day to day responsibilities in your regular life, you might struggle. If that is the case, I still recommend Fielding, but definitely get a coach outside of it to help you (And lean on their services also! The admin team, librarians, advisors, and professors are excellent). read more

Great grad school. Well rounded education applicable in the real world. Professors are mostly available to comment on the ongoing work and to answers questions of the cohort. Would do it all again. The best of being in Santa Barbara is the time with your professors in various brewpubs. STAY AWAY from this place. Nothing but a headache and dysfunctional organization. The curriculum is a joke. Ever heard of the term block head??? I made a Facebook review and it was silenced like everything else that I have concerns with. My comments were disabled and my review status was changed to friends of friends and not public. My review took down the perfect 5 out of 5 to a 4.7. The university is far from perfect. This is a liberal arts college in case they didn't know psychology is a liberal art. Liberal arts are not a true science, therefore openness to critical thinking and challenges is an essential part to liberal arts philosophy. The instructors treat the material prescriptive as if they know the secrets to the universe. Very reactive faculty and this is not a conducive liberal arts environment. Furthermore, liberal arts do not prepared students for a career. If the university was serious about psychology then the university would have access to one of the most important studies on the planet. I know the faculty don't have access because I checked with the programs registration and Fielding was not in the list. I have had access to these studies since I was 18 years old because they are so important any research student can obtain access including rogue students. I'm not going to mention the name of the study because that would be ridiculous to give away free information that they don't even know about. So either the faculty know more information and they are setting the students up for failure or they are truly bad at academics. I'll give everyone a hint the study has pure quantifiable scientific evidence. read more

This university is not for students who are not highly organized, self-reliant and comfortable with studying independently. The academic challenge is on par with other quality APA-accredited Clinical Psychology PhD programs. Faculty is highly knowledgeable and over 90% were or are aligned with, and have achieved degrees from reputable public universities. In my opinion the education at this university is of good quality and prepares students well. There are student driven sites like SDN who discuss pros and cons of these programs. What they are are nothing but opinions offered by students wanting to feel superior, or who do not exactly grasp what the real life working environment looks like. They all think of themselves as potential Harvard graduates (even that is meaningless). As long as you do not want to have a career as a tenured faculty, which has become increasingly difficult, a quality APA-accredited program such as Fielding GU will prepare you well for anything you want to do in this field, inclusive of teaching. read more

Please research other programs especially if you want to work with families of children with developmental disorders. The master and Ph.D. program at this institution is not even adequate and the price tag is way too high. I am a parent of a child with a developmental disorder and I had a professor that was not qualified to teach an important topic and in fact, she didn't not teach the course and then, e-mailed harsh and demanding deadlines. She was completely unavailable to answer questions and give feedback and the price tag for not teaching and providing misery to her students: $800 per credit! I urge you to find another program and stay far away from Fielding! There is also very little guidance as to any career path and for the money you pay, you could be getting amazing professors and actually attending amazing lectures instead of having a Fielding "talking head" on your computer saying very little that you haven't heard before and in fact, in some cases being disrespectful and insulting. read more

I am constantly having issues with Financial Aid. I registered for three classes and FinAid never processed my disbursement to reflect three classes and thought it was okay to deduct tuition for three classes from my cost of attendance aid which by the way is not free. I asked to drop two courses because my FinAid was only awarded for one class and the school retaliated and emailed me that I would have to withdraw from the program and I unregister from three classes and my entire financial aid disbursement would be returned. That's is crazy! These faculty running the school ought to seek help from Oxford and most importantly get their ethics right. read more

As an Integrative Health and Wellness Coach and ICF member, I find Fielding's doctoral concentration in Evidence Based Coaching extremely helpful and cutting edge. Although many universities offer PhD programs in Human Development, Fielding's common degree framework allows students to cross disciplines for greater breadth of learning opportunity. Personally, I will pursue several courses from the APA accredited psychology program(s). My understanding is Fielding isn't for everyone. But for me, as an adult learner furthering education in my discipline (without having to move geographical locations in order to fulfill residency requirements) the quality and cutting edge concentrations are a perfect fit for me! read more

I received my Masters Degree from the school of Education Leadership and Change (ELC) of Fielding in April 2014. The program was very precise and the courses were very well taught by doctors in the field. I was given the chace to present at one of Dr. Dixon's classes in Cal Poly Pomona University! That was really nice of Dr. Dixon, they go above and beyond for the students.The educators and the Deans truly care for each member in the cohort and I really felt like family. I am currently completing my dissertation in the Education Leadership and Change (ELC) program from Fielding. It has been an enjoyable and stimulating experience and journey for me. Specifically, I have been part of a cohort that focused on leadership in Calif CCs. What hooked me immediately was the focus on the relevant field of social justice. Along with equity and inclusiveness, I have been teaching in diverse classrooms, and my Fielding courses have supported me successfully in better understanding the systemic inequality issues that still exist as well as recognizing the various student populations that have experienced oppression while pursuing an education. Further, I have been in various leadership roles over the years, and Praxis assignments have allowed me to conscientiously and creatively be an even stronger change agent, both in pursuing shared governance and creating new opportunities for my colleagues. I have brought current theories to committee meetings to update members that have resulted in richer discussions. I have been bolder in my contributions as well. Every January, Fielding holds a conference with a variety of breakout sessions. They include supporting students in further understanding specifics about the dissertation and writing processes and are facilitated by our instructors. Other courses include the application of the various areas of study sometimes taught by more recent graduates who have created their own business and have completed further research. I have attended this conference for the past two years and have met and interacted with faculty and as well as students from all over the world. I realize how more enriched I am. It is also the perfect opportunity to meet with your dissertation committee, and I have discovered Fielding faculty that are open, supportive and excited while receiving constructive comments that I am looking for to push on in the "marathon" process of writing. It is most evident to me from my coursework and these conferences that this institution's faculty (and admin services representatives) reveal how invested they are in not only the program courses but more importantly, interacting with the student, imparting current knowledge in their subject area, and demonstrating their integrity and empathy. They love what they do and are available to converse and guide. It has been a grand journey so far, and, for me the end is near. I feel proud and I am pleased I chose Fielding! read more
