My first time to the University of California, Santa Barbara was for the 3rd Summit on Diversity in…read morethe Minerals, Metals, and Materials Professions in July 2018. I arrived the night before the start of the diversity summit. The campus was well marked on the streets, though I did get lost trying to find my lodging accommodations. Slowing down as I drove my car, I eventually spotted a building matching the description I had. The workers were friendly and clearly directed me to where parking was for those of us attending the summit. I had signed up for the conference of my own initiative following attending a conference for the corresponding professions in March 2018 in Phoenix, Arizona. Finding parking that first night was my first sigh of relief I had made it. Then, walking my small suitcase towards the lodging building, I noticed a tunnel with lights running parallel to the tunnel entrances/exits up the sides and across the top of the tunnel. Pausing to take a look, someone on a bicycle rode through the tunnel and the lights blinked as they passed each strand. So cool. My lodging was comfortable, I was happy I had chosen to pay for everything myself in addition to choosing the summit myself. It helped build my confidence that I could call the shots in my own career. Summit sessions were held across the following two days in multiple on-campus buildings. Talent brought in spanned academia, national laboratory researchers, and people in industry. A few talk highlights included a presentation by a man from a company that had decided to pull his slides at the last minute for proprietary (intellectual property) reasons - he had to improv his entire talk. Another man, from my university (University of California, Berkeley) and a different department (Materials Science and Engineering) commented on how he hoped some day a Nobel Prize (corresponding disciplines: Physiology or Medicine, Physics, Chemistry) would be awarded to someone who cared enough about diversity to attend this diversity summit in advance of being awarded the prize. I enjoyed the on-campus meals (catered) we shared together as well. The weather was beautiful and we could watch an on-campus lagoon for wildlife. A birdwatching guide and binoculars had been provided in my room. All around, I had a lovely time.

We were here for some baseball games against the mens baseball team. They cheer like a high school girls softball team so we just beat them to quiet them down. It was fun!

Attended Antioch during the time period when the College of the same name was closing. I've stayed…read morein touch with students who attend to this day and not much has changed. The emphasis on Psychology is their bread and butter although they have ever changing BA in Liberal Arts emphasis degrees. Their Masters program in Psych is good, as is their Psy-D. Teachers range from eh to the fantastic Profs Rust and Forhan. The school stresses papers over exams, and be prepared to do a lot of self reflection. Just because this school is for returning students does not make it for the faint of heart. The small library has a fantastic inter library loan program, and you'll have access to a database that contains anything you could imagine needing. I once did a paper on a legal issue and pulled up full text of every court decision from the state to U.S. Court of Appeals. The reason for three stars is the high drop out rate and lack of support for students when in need. You also only get out what you put in. In one case due to family emergency I attended 1/2 of a course and only turned in 2/9 of the papers. I got a glowing "Good" commending me on all my papers.

Antioch also failed I think on admission to advise potential students how demanding the years of acquiring "hours" for full licensing would be,adding sometimes many years to the process of becoming a licensed therapist, after a couple years of rigorous study. At critical points Antioch University administratively failed, at significant points, in my path to licensure, to provide important letters and documents to the BBS, allowing progress toward licensure to be delayed by months and months. It was incredibly frustrating. There is an apparent at times near total disregard for students who are alumni, no longer the revenue focus. On two occasions I was left hanging with NO access to essential administrative support. Since you will be dependent on your university for three to six more years after graduation, possibly to even be able to continue your progress to final licensure, consider choosing a different program, a different university that has proper access to what you are likely to need. I wish I had.

(And free) over in Lot 5 with a short walk over to the grass area "the Great Meadow" We brought our dog and so many others had their dogs too! It was a great puppy party! Great place for events!

It is a terrible school. They don't care about their students like they used to. I attended SBCC…read more2020-2024. Many policies have changed and mandatory additional classes were added. Now you can only have a counselor appointment once a month, which makes it extremely challenging for students who have questions or challenges. The only support is a counselor for most things, but too bad. You better pack in all your questions and future questions in your 30 minute once a month session. There's lot of bullying that i've seen on campus, and the staff do nothing about it. As well as much drug use and people smoking weed on campus. If you need to withdraw from a class due to pregnancy or other circumstances, they will not take it off your record unless you PAY TO TAKE MORE CLASSES. Again - they just care about money and the tuition is abnormally high for a community college.

The professors are enthusiastic stewards of knowledge and many are great mentors. The labs do a great job of facilitating research and helping students do work that is rigorous, repeatable, and publishable. I will say remote learning, just like remote work, requires you to be competent at time management and fairly good at self motivation - if you struggle with that and need someone to give you a to-do list for day to day responsibilities in your regular life, you might struggle. If that is the case, I still recommend Fielding, but definitely get a coach outside of it to help you (And lean on their services also! The admin team, librarians, advisors, and professors are excellent).
