There were two main rooms; one quiet, relaxed with tabes, soft jazzy music and candlelight, the other, a small to medium ballroom with hoop aerialists, fire breathers and pole dancers. Wonderfully decadent and more Belle Epoque (a cabaret/20s night) than Torture Garden (a kink night) making it quite accessible. Some of the people had beautiful costumes and everyone was very friendly. All in all an excellent night in a place I hope has more events.

I was here once for a private party and had the one of the best nights ever. The atmosphere was one of fun and excitement and despite the surroundings was not pretentious at all. The main room has a wooden floor and a big stage. The toilets are beautiful, white butcher tiles on the walls and green velvet chairs so you can sit down and have a chat with your pals whilst powering your nose.

It was a regular hangout for none other than Karl Marx and Lenin--how wild is that? The walls are covered with photos of famous performers who've been there, along with images from the Grand Order of Water Rats. The whole place just feels rich with history--both old and more recent. The pub was bought in 1986 by the Grand Order of Water Rats, a showbiz charity whose members have included legends like Charlie Chaplin, and currently, Rick Wakeman. Even cooler--it's where Bob Dylan played his first-ever UK gig back in the 1960s. Since then, it's hosted the London debuts of bands like The Pogues and Oasis. And in this tiny back room, they've had live performances by major international stars, including Katy Perry.

I think of it as a very light cirque du soleil that is slightly bawdy. But I repeat, it is not a gentleman's club. In fact, the audience was either couples or groups of women. The seating is kind of weird upstairs. The room is circular so you may happen to view the show from behind the actors, which is what we did. It was still good but there were certain scenes that took place behind pillars, and it was a bit harder to view those scenes. I bought tickets for only 15 pounds (that's around $22 USD as of this writing) so it was not a bad deal.
