He's an expert on martial arts and knows many different forms and techniques for everyone to learn from. Whether you want to take martial arts to be in tournaments or as a way to lose weight, he'll get you to accomplish those goals with maximum results, and isn't afraid to make you push yourself harder to go beyond them. And even if you don't know a thing about karate or kick-boxing (like how I was when I met him), Jack will be sure to get you up to speed and you'll be throwing punches and kicks like a champ. Seriously, give him a try! I can't express enough how much of a great instructor he is, so it's good to see him out of retirement and teaching again.

My son has been bullied for years and his self confidence was badly shattered. Jack was able to start building his self esteem from the first lesson. His teaching is a combination of different martial arts blended with a non violence mentality, which really builds up character. He can teach you to defeat your perpetrator with a few moves. I strongly recommend him!

Good location right on the Danforth means I stuff my face with Greek food after an intense work out. Some days are super hard and others aren't. Depends on who's teaching. Usually an intense workout. The one thing that I LOVED today compared to last time was that their central air conditioning was on. Previously, the AC wasn't turned on and the space quickly turned into a sweat box, so today was much, much better. Again, Andrew led the warm up and conditioning section, and again, it wasn't an overly complicated work out. Seemed less intense than last time however. One thing that I noticed today compared to last time, was that they don't have a lot of dumbbells/kettlebells for the conditioning section. I feel like they should stock more 10, 12.5 and 15 lb weights since those seem to be the most popular. The ones left over always seem to be either 5 lb or 25 lb; as a result, I have to go to the 5 lb one (which is way too light for me) since 25 lb is too heavy. Levi wasn't here today, so Erin taught the beginners (3 of us today, a good sized group). Erin was friendly, and a great teacher (she also does a good Gollum impression watch out). As a studio, they also maintain a good standard of hygiene - immediately after someone cut their foot and blood got on the mats, Erin immediately helped him clean up and bandage his foot. Afterwards, she made sure the mats were properly disinfected before resuming teaching.

I've seen arms bent too far and ankles wrenched beyond a safe limit. It feels like they enjoy causing harm. Newer folks get no mercy--once they go for a move, they won't let go, no matter how much it hurts. The coaches look the other way. This place is awful.

I was looking to find a bjj gym to call home after a 5 year absence from the sport. I visited and…read moretried classes at primal mma where Igor teaches (he's also the owner of redstar kimonos) and that was great but it wasn't very convenient for me location wise; I also tried out action reaction, which is ran by Fernando, who is a good instructor and a very nice guy, but I found the classes to be too large and the majority of students that I rolled with, too spazzy without being technical (this was my experience only and of course you should try it out for yourself). Finally I tried Greenwood BJJ as it was fairly close to me but I really hadn't heard as much about it as the aforementioned gyms. The facility is what I would call pedestrian at best, there's nothing fancy here as far as change rooms or shiny equipment is concerned, but the instruction is something truly special. The bjj instructor Chris Greenwood has a way of explaining positions and techniques that for me makes it so clear and crisp, something that I feel is exceptional

Although I wasn't interested in the judo and jujitsu they are primarily known for, Bobby, the owner, accommodated my interest in getting fit and I ended up taking Dana's Strength and Conditioning classes and got hooked. I renewed my membership and then continued with private training sessions. I am the strongest I have ever been and feel and look pretty great (never thought I'd feel like this as a woman in my 40s with three kids). Dana is motivating and a fantastic teacher and trainer - she fine tunes and gives great prompts to assist with form and make sure the exercises are done properly and safely. In addition, my kids have trialed the jujitsu and gymnastics classes and loved them but couldn't continue due to their other activities, but from what I observed, Bobby is a knowledgeable, patient, and fun teacher. I highly recommend you or your kids try this dojo out for three months. Would be surprised if you or they aren't hooked like I was. elenaele

I started taking the Body Blast and Boxfit classes at this studio back in September and I'm super…read morehappy with the experience. I've even signed up for their 6 Week Fitness Challenge that starts tomorrow. I'm pretty active on my own, but find it's easy as we head into winter to opt for the couch over the run outside. So, signing up for classes provides a little extra incentive for me to keep active. From my first visit at Cornerstone I felt comfortable, a key feeling for me when I'm working out. The owner, Lauren Cook, took time to explain pricing, the best deals, and introductory offers. Although I don't have kids, I noticed that the schedule's built to accommodate kids classes at the same time adults are working out. Supporting local community businesses is important to me and Lauren took the time to explain why she opened and what impact she hopes it has on the community. All a positive for me. I take body blast with Nick Robinson on Thursdays. It's a mix of functional exercises to build cardio and some strength training. The classes are small, so it's more like a personalized workout with a trainer rather than a class at say Goodlife. The max we've had so far in class is 4 people, so there's no hiding. The upside, is that after I injured myself running, he was able to give me modified exercises during the class at no additional cost and it didn't prevent me from going. This was awesome! The Boxfit class on Sundays is the best workout I've ever had. If you're looking for a cardio workout this is it. It's an hour and divided amongst skipping, jogging, aerobics, box jumping, and punching the bag so you never get bored. You work on 3 minute rounds with 30 second breaks the whole time. Jared is funny and makes sure everyone is working hard throughout the class. As for costs, I pay per session and find it reasonably priced. It's more expensive than Goodlife, but I feel more accountable given the smaller class sizes. And you can't beat the individual attention you're getting from a certified instructors/trainers without paying for one-on-one sessions. I've not taken any of the adult dance classes they offer, but I've ventured into both Yoga and Pilates now and continue to be impressed by the staff they have.

Wonderful staff, very caring and thoughtful, and overall a great vibe in the studio. Delighted to see how the studio has evolved and grown over the years.
