Ok. A friend of a friend had a opening night photo exhibit here so I made this page, made a Yelp…read moreevent, all in the hopes of getting people to the show because the photos were that cool. And now a review of the space, because like the photos, this place is that cool and now, I have a better understanding of what it's all about, sort of. So the place has been open for about 5.5 months. A warm inviting storefront with the inside filled with local artist inspirations. Prices range from the Wow! That will look kick ass in my place (for the most frugal shopper) to Wow! That will look kick ass in my place! (for the person with some deep, pockets). Everything that's sold are one-of-a-kind pieces and are quite amazing. From paper mache' sculptures (definitely worth checking out) , New Zealand reclaimed wood tables, low temp fired ceramics, paintings with prices all over the spectrum and of course, photography and more. The cool thing though is that with the gallery owner, Nance, has space in the back which could be used for other events besides showings. Not big events, but smaller ones and obviously you would need to talk to her about what your trying to do but she came off as pretty cool and open to ideas. Nance has history of doing things in the city around the arts scene and if you've been to Macy's for their holiday display, you've seen her work. This part of West 7th (3-4 block area?) is really starting to pop and one could park in the middle and walk around, eat, drink, and shop their way to the different businesses and this place, is definitely worth a stop.

This is a gem of a place. I stopped to check out a show that displayed a local photographers work (Gorgeous stuff filled with depth and emotion!) The store has a stunning back room with tall painted ceilings that was perfect for an artist debut.

In addition exhibiting world-class art and artists, Public Functionary makes a point of inviting in community groups and letting them use their amazing, huge (and expanded) space as a resource. PF "Takeovers" (fun party nights where local artists/musicians take over the space to create a scene), fashion shows, NE Mpls business functions and events, musical and dance performances are all regular occurrences in-between/during exhibitions that has Public Functionary truly live up to it's name.

If you love more "traditional" art that deals with mostly wildlife, I highly suggest this "shop"…read more It looks like an art gallery when you walk in (completely filled with all kinds of art from various sizes) but it's all for sale! There's prints at decent prices and then originals for sale, too! Those are far more expensive, but I feel they are worth it. The owner is very nice and can tell you about any of the pieces, even if you just mention a type of animal or anything else. He's also very quick to respond to emails! And when buying an art piece (at least a framed one) he puts a type of protective wrap around it so less chance of damaging when in the car/going home. He also gives advice on how to properly hang it! I wish the outside of the building wasn't so run down, but I won't fault him for that! The inside and the owner is what matters, as well as, of course, the art pieces themselves. Also he changes the art on the walls every day! Not all the pieces, but there's always something "new" on the walls.
