What a great store and equally great experience. Nathan in the bow shop literally spent hours with me, walking me through many aspects of shooting and types of equipment and got me completely set up with a new bow and all the fixings. Additionally, Leah, at the front desk, was amazingly helpful with my purchase in their customer loyalty program. She is truly an amazing person and great to work with. Other staff was very friendly and helpful with my 14 year-old son and his many questions about fishing and other equipment. Five stars is not enough for the job that these guys did! read more

I was helped by a gentleman named Kurt (or perhaps spelled Curt) in the archery department. I have a bow from my family older than me. I wanted to update some parts on it after a few former teammates suggested I take it into a shop. I know very little but did purchase a sight from Fin and Feather a few years ago. Kurt recognized I installed the sight wrong, walked me through my technique and had me shoot a few arrows. After his adjustments I can't wait to get out to a longer range & do their techno hunts! This also made me realize that there are a lot of reviews out there that are probably lower due to people like me who may have attempted to arrange their equipment on their own. I don't know about the other departments, but the fishing department is one of the best I've ever been to. Solid selection and always some good or insane deals. Joey is the best goes above and beyond every time, super knowledgeable and just a good dude. The bargain bins hold some serious gems. Go out of your way to go here you wont regret it. Service was excellent. I was getting my first real bow set up and they were patient and thoroughly explained everything they did.

Wanted to get some new arrows and have them cut down. The salesman in the bow department told me the ones I had in my bow case we're good enough. Kid just didn't want to do any work. Came in for a gun trade on a Saturday. Agreed to a mutually beneficial trade then set off to get a handgun permit. Came in three days later, permit in hand, and requested the gun I had put on hold. I was then laughed at by a portly fellow when I told him the agreed upon trade price. Another employee confirmed I had indeed agreed on a trade. Portly fellow offered me $100 less. Disgusted by my experience and will encourage friends and family to shop elsewhere. EDIT: Rodger the owner apologized for the experience and I couldn't be happier about his handling of the situation. I was not planning to leave this review but after the blatant disrespect i received today I really wanted to look out for everyone in the Firearm community. While I am sure other departments of Fin and Feather are run fine they have hands down the WORST customer service in their Hunting Department. Today I had a conflict with the gun smith where he admitted he was having a bad day and that is why he was so rude to me over the phone and I genuinely appreciated that he admitted that and shook his hand. The manager "Clint" (who I had also had a conflict with on another ocassion because he was in a "bad mood" that day)then proceeded to approach me and almost provoke me trying to get a rise out of me by rehashing the situation and sticking up for the gun smith who was completely out of line to a customer over the phone. I was furious and this Clint character is supposedly the Hunting Manager. What an absolute joke, the guy needs to realize that is not how you communicate with people in society let alone in the business of customer service. If you plan to be interested in anything firearms related my best advice is to avoid this "Manager" and the Fin and Feather Hunting department all together. read more

Ive been an infrequent customer for 25-30 years. I have no complaints & like about many parts of the store. But the Fire Arm section especially as of late has a way of making you feel un-welcome if you don't have that right look. More then once Ive been standing at the counter when a sales person finishes helping another customer then with out even acknowledging I'm there walk off.. Went in yesterday to pick up my handguns that were delivered. Gun transfer went up to $50 per gun. Almost a $20 increase from a few months ago. The really odd thing was this. If the gun was deemed defective prior to doing the transfer they STILL charge you $50 dollars plus shipping and insurance. Here's why this is poor customer service, companies that do ship a defective gun will ALWAYS pay shipping and insurance back to them. Not sure why Fin & Feather thinks it's ok to stiff the customer but I won't do another transfer there again. read more

Being a city-dweller my whole life I had never seen anything like this, and the walls were papered with photos of beaming patrons holding up four foot long prehistoric dinosaur fish called "Gar" they've caught that just made the whole place seem, well, otherworldly. I just returned home from one of the worst examples of unprofessional management styles I have ever encountered anywhere, I never expected it to be at the Iowa City, IA Fin & Feather. The recently hired manager Kathy Panek treated me in a very disrespectful and condescending manner by strongly implying that I was being less than honest concerning the transaction between her and myself at the customer service counter. Before encountering this condescending sorry excuse for a manager, I have always been treated kind and courteously at the Iowa City, IA Fin & Feather. I told Kathy Panek that she clearly does not have what it takes to be an effective and efficient manager and that she should resign. She became furious and lost what little bit of composure she could no-longer fake and demanded that I leave "HER" store. I was under the impression that Brian Mildenstein was the owner of the Iowa City, IA Fin & Feather. I have been a loyal satisfied customer of Fin & Feather for many of the 60 years of my life Mr. Mildenstein. You and I both know that I am not the first one of your loyal customers to be treated in a disrespectful condescending manner by this failed attempt at hiring what must have appeared to be a qualified manager, you didn't know how cunningly you were deceived or clearly you would not have entrusted Kathy Panek with the integrity and reputation of YOUR store. I trust you will do the right thing by replacing Kathy Panek A.S.A.P. because many of your loyal customers that have been treated this way by her, including myself will not set foot back in your store until the kind courteous atmosphere that we have come to love and expect returns. read more

I'll try not to rant about an experience I had here the other day. I've been shopping at F&F for about 6 months and I feel that the staff is their strongest area. I traded in a firearm for a very good price and bought another off their shelf which was more expensive. So I ended up paying in some cash and saved customer points for the new gun. After leaving the store, I was called back and told that paperwork was messed up for my purchase. To make a long story short, a lady who appeared to be a manager simultaneously berated a cashier for messing up my purchase (he did it correctly) and spent twenty minutes doing a simple math equation. I thought calling me back to the store only to find out my time was wasted might entail reimbursement of the points I'd saved up (it has no value until I spend it there, anyway), but it only resulted in a hurried apology. Long story short: staff is awesome, management is terrible. read more

Could spend a lot of money here. Has a good selection of all outdoor equipment and had the reloading equipment that I couldn't find anywhere else. Great selection of ammo as well. Carries, in my opinion, more high end clothes and equipment. Will definitely be a regular here. read more

I've been here quite a bit, and honestly only have good things to say about these guys. I've bought a bear bow, browning shotgun, tons of ammo, arrows and broad heads, all well priced. They recently re did their indoor archery range, and it's really nice. Every there is always super helpful and nice. I would definitely recommend them. read more

these guys offer a variety of outdoor sports gear, from camping to skiing....although it takes its namesake from fishing and hunting if you're into that kind of stuff. most of the items would seem expensive but you can find a few deals if the time is right and you look hard enough. they also rent out cross country skis. i know every time i'm there, i get the itch to get active outside. read more
