Most impressively, she thinks about your kid's development holistically - from hearing to eating, sleeping, learning, emotional/behavioral matters - all to understand the potential root causes of speech issues. She's essentially a one-stop-shop resource that provides you a comprehensive - yet targeted(!) - treatment plan...all in under 30 min/week! :) She quickly assessed that our 3-year old needed (i) a hearing test and (ii) to see an ENT for ear tube surgery, which leap-frogged his speech progress nearly overnight (seriously). Even post-surgery, she inquired about his sleep and eating - which we were having challenges with (but I didn't think were related!) - and she recommended a follow-up with our ENT to confirm if anything else is physically inhibiting him. Whether it's being flexible with last minute scheduling changes, providing me talking points so I can have richer conversations with my son's doctors, or recommending Daniel Tiger episodes to prepare my son for surgery - she's a TREMENDOUS resource and I feel so lucky we found her!

From our very first interaction and assessment, to our now sessions that have gone virtual, Bettina continues to impress me with her vast knowledge and creative techniques which has translated to immense improvements for our daughter. Bettina also provides a holistic perspective and keeps in mind my daughter's other occupational and physical therapeutic needs, as well as her speech/language goals. Even in this chaotic time of COVID, Bettina has gone the extra mile to make her sessions with my daughter fun and engaging. As an example, she keeps my 4 year old child 100% engaged in virtual sessions for 45 mins straight. My son absolutely loves his sessions with Taylor. He has a very bubbly, active personality, and she does a wonderful job keeping the lessons engaging and fun through different games, activities, and videos. What I appreciate most is how flexible and attentive she is to his interests. If he loses interest in a specific activity and wants to play with one of his own toys instead, she happily joins in and incorporates vocabulary and learning opportunities related to the toy he's focused on. The office staff have also been incredibly easy to work with. They are informative about openings and availability at each location, and they communicate proactively whenever in-person or virtual spots become available. From intake to our final class, the staff made sure that the scheduling process was a breeze, and that visits did not fall short of expectations. They have an excellent staff dedicated to your child's development, and the office is pristine. Not just clean; very well kept. I noticed that there wasn't one tear on a book or broken toys. They put lots of effort into upkeep, knowing well that toys and books can take a beating with younger kids. East Bay Child Development Center has terrific speech therapists and therapists specialized in helping in all other types of child development, including but not limited to physical therapy, etc. We went through 2 different speech therapists and 1 or 2 therapy students which was a little harder for our son to grow accustomed to because it would take him awhile to warm up (which I've learned isn't unusual for any development therapy center), but each therapist tried their absolute best to ensure they were giving him the utmost care and attention.

The office receptionist was like his first day to work, confused and looked around like a lost boy. There four people by office were speaking loud and chatting. They failed my son years ago when he was younger because they said he was not ready for speech when I just changed my insurance to get accepted to come here. Now he's 12 years old saying he's not a good fit. Shame on you to say that to me. You can't discharge him that's illegal. My son is trying with his speech and he has rights in California to receive speech therapy any age. Discrimination by the ability, then age, what's next because his sister running around the office and also I was on the phone? For that lady who spoke with me today over the phone couldn't wait on me. And making me feel like I was being fired from the job, she sounded rude and said my daughter was running around the room and I was speaking loud on the phone so the excuse to fail my son. Then changed her words saying he's not a good fit and he runs fast and wants to push the kids. She needs to find more excuses for her to dismiss him. You don't know how hard and challenging to be a mother of autistic kid. I finally thought I have him his speech going and then you locked me up like shutting my mouth. Go see if your speech therapist is the one who has the problem. She too lazy to give speech therapy or has a lack of skills. This is Shameless and discrimination.

It was clear to me that she was uninterested, therefore I did not continue the conversation. I said "Oh no, nevermind." And hung up. First impressions matter, and I take my daughters treatment very serious. If they cannot answer the phone with a "Hello, this is Say the word etc.", that is enough to show me they are unfit to treat my daughter.

I wasn't having success getting through job interviews in the Bay Area and decided to take Meg's…read morecoaching to reduce my Japanese accent. First, Meg created a list of sounds that I wasn't pronouncing correctly, such as "th", "z", etc..., and we focused on one sound each week. It was an eye opening experience for me to think about each sound and focus on how to create them. Meg is very knowledgeable with phonetics. Her advice and analysis was always spot on. I worked hard on the lessons and homework. Meg also spent a lot of time reviewing my homework outside our lesson hours. I really appreciated it and it motivated me to work harder. Through the lessons, I gained confidence in speaking in English by knowing that other people actually understand me. Near the end of the course I had a successful job interview and landed a job! I highly recommend Meg for her professional knowledge and enthusiasm for helping her clients.
