Our child was a late talker, so we did our research and found East Bay Child Development Center (formerly PLTA). From intake to our final class, the staff made sure that the scheduling process was a breeze, and that visits did not fall short of expectations. They have an excellent staff dedicated to your child's development, and the office is pristine. Not just clean; very well kept. I noticed that there wasn't one tear on a book or broken toys. They put lots of effort into upkeep, knowing well that toys and books can take a beating with younger kids. East Bay Child Development Center has terrific speech therapists and therapists specialized in helping in all other types of child development, including but not limited to physical therapy, etc. We went through 2 different speech therapists and 1 or 2 therapy students which was a little harder for our son to grow accustomed to because it would take him awhile to warm up (which I've learned isn't unusual for any development therapy center), but each therapist tried their absolute best to ensure they were giving him the utmost care and attention. read more

They failed my son after 3 session. Excuses that he doesn't listen, he runs fast that worried about younger children there. That speech is not a good fit for him, that his sister runs around the hallways exploring toys and opened doors of offices, about me get a phone call so they discharged him from services. This is racism and discrimination by the way ladies I want to give you suggestions, your office needs a new administration, organisation and functionality. Everybody there seems to go everywhere, I don't know if these people work here are they clients. The back door to the outside was open, this is called dysfunctional. The office receptionist was like his first day to work, confused and looked around like a lost boy. There four people by office were speaking loud and chatting. They failed my son years ago when he was younger because they said he was not ready for speech when I just changed my insurance to get accepted to come here. Now he's 12 years old saying he's not a good fit. Shame on you to say that to me. You can't discharge him that's illegal. My son is trying with his speech and he has rights in California to receive speech therapy any age. Discrimination by the ability, then age, what's next because his sister running around the office and also I was on the phone? For that lady who spoke with me today over the phone couldn't wait on me. And making me feel like I was being fired from the job, she sounded rude and said my daughter was running around the room and I was speaking loud on the phone so the excuse to fail my son. Then changed her words saying he's not a good fit and he runs fast and wants to push the kids. She needs to find more excuses for her to dismiss him. You don't know how hard and challenging to be a mother of autistic kid. I finally thought I have him his speech going and then you locked me up like shutting my mouth. Go see if your speech therapist is the one who has the problem. She too lazy to give speech therapy or has a lack of skills. This is Shameless and discrimination. read more

My toddler went through 8 weeks of speech therapy at East Bay Child Development Center and we really liked it! I first had a call with Katie around when my child was 16 months, she sent me some guidance on email and suggested I check back in around 18 months for an evaluation. I ended up signing up my kid for an evaluation around 19 months. Both Katie and Rachel evaluated her speech and suggested some speech therapy just to jump start her speech. My kid is exposed to 4 different languages so she is a bit speech delayed due to that. I started working originally with Isaac as a speech therapist and he was nice but my kid was shy around male instructors so we decided to do our weekly sessions with Rachel. Rachel was great! She played with my child for the whole 30 minute duration of the class and showed her different toys and practiced a lot of repetition. It took my child probably 4 sessions just to settle in, and at some point she got more comfortable with Rachel and excelled. Of course there was some language plateau in there, but this is common for toddlers. By listening to the words Rachel used during play, I was able to simulate the same type of language at home. Overall, I had a good experience! There was a bit of a billing hick up, but everything got sorted out. read more

Words cannot express how wonderful the administration & staff are at PLTA. I'm giving this review as both a teacher and parent. The school I work at, St. Joachim School contracted with PLTA this past fall of '22 for Speech and OT services to help address the pandemics impact on our students academic needs (i.e. speech & language, fine & sensory motor, and self-regulation skills, etc.). The SLPs (Katie and Isaac) and OT (Lesley) that work with our students are amazing!! The kids look forward to doing their small group pull outs for speech with Isaac. The OT, Lesley pulls kids in small groups or does a full class push in session to help them with fine motor, sensory motor, and self-regulation. The activities are engaging and well thought out. As a parent, of a child with ASD, I am in awe of how much my son has grown in his speech and sensory motor skills. He's speaking more and we are able to better understand what he is communicating. Both his SLP, Margarita and his OT, Kris are super patient. I love how they use visuals/a visual schedule to help my son know what the agenda is for the session and how it helps him to transition to the next activity. Kris and Margarita are also great at ensuring that the sessions are built around my son's interests and needs. Lastly, the owner and director, Claire is super nice and knowledgeable. Before we started with PLTA, I did a phone consult with Claire and she took the time to go over my son's needs and the discuss the approach the SLP's take. Whenever I see her at my son's sessions she takes the time to chat or check in with me. I appreciate these interactions. PLTA is a gem for any parent who seeks speech or OT services for their child!! We love Pediatric Language Therapy Associates. We've worked with different therapists over the past two years and have found everyone to be skilled and playful--a winning combination. My 6-year-old son most recently worked with Steven to help with the articulation of the "R" sound. Steven blew us away. I'd heard that "R" can be a difficult sound to teach. Steven was always prepared, hard working and playful. Steven takes his work seriously and is dedicated to helping kids. He also really just understood my child and what would motivate him to learn. During the hardest year of my life as a mother, this practice was a godsend! My son had to endure distance learning last academic year. And it was like we had regressed from all the progress we had made before the lockdown. So, having him sit in front of a computer screen doing zoom school was emotionally and physically drain for both my son and myself. He was dreading going to school. He'd put up a fight and have a meltdown. I would yell from him not cooperative. And we'd both be in tears from frustration. And then in November, when I was venting on social media, this practice was recommended to me. They provide a small Play Group sessions that meet every Tuesday & Thursday for an hour and a half. So, I thought to give it a try! They have a small group of about 5 kids with just as many, if not more aides/ language therapists to help with the kids. They have circle time when you first arrive, which mimics a morning meeting in the classroom. They sing songs. They play games. They do arts & crafts. They have a snack. They socialize! Because of the play date groups, my son was able to tolerate zoom school! My son was more comfortable with socializing and following the safety protocols. And now, he's can't stop asking when can he go to school! I'm just so relieved that he's ready to go into this new academic year with such confidence. It's seriously unbelievable, looking back to when we first started in November 2020. My son is a completely different child! And it's all thanks to Claire and her exceptional team! We've love it so much that we have moved practices for my son's individual speech sessions. He's making such big strides at PLTA! Can't wait to see more growth as we continue with speech! read more

I'd like to share my family's interactions with Claire so other parents newly navigating the world of speech therapy may learn from our experiences. Lack of organization: After 5 months and only 5 sessions, Claire referred me to Regional Center (Early Start). Regional Center asked that I have any previous speech therapy records forwarded for their assessment. Claire failed to forward my records on three separate occasions. On the last request, she responded via text "The report I have was from our first meeting so I'm not sure if it's even relevant now. Do they still want it? Seems like they should do their own to get her current levels." As a health care provider myself, if I refer a patient to another provider, I would forward any assessments and notes that I take after each visit. Infrequent sessions: Regional Center was alarmed at the infrequency of my sessions (1x/month). When I inquired about this, Claire reassured me that our sessions were sufficient, but still recommended that I become a "squeaky wheel" to Regional Center to ensure I get their resources as a supplemental tool (which are weekly sessions). If this is the recommendation, then why wait 5 months to tell me this? Lack of clear instruction: Claire suggested that my nanny and I attend an in-person session to teach us techniques on how to help my daughter. My nanny attended on her day off, my husband took time off, and the three of us attended an in-person session. During this session, we did not receive any instruction. Rather, Claire recommended that we enroll my daughter in part-time day care and really push for Regional Center resources. When I asked Claire why we didn't learn anything in that session she responded "The further strategies and guidance were intended to be conveyed in the class". This class she is referring to is a $70/month 1x/week playgroup class that is not covered by insurance. I'm unclear as to why a 1:1 session would not be an optimal time to cover some techniques with three adults, especially since that was the intention of the session. My interactions with Claire have made me question her priorities and organization and I hope others can learn from our experiences. Bottom line: maybe reach out to Regional Center from the beginning. read more

Our speech therapist was great Isaac was patient, friendly, interactive. I can't remember who did the evaluation but she was super friendly with my son as well. I only wish the sessions were longer and also there were a few problems money and insurance when my insurance lapsed. I wish they told me sooner so I didn't have to pay out of pocket. read more

I can't say enough wonderful things about Claire. She is wonderful at helping parents understand how they can support their kids at home and get the most out of speech therapy. We did individual sessions for our triplets (yes, triplets), as well as the Play Pals Jr group. Since my boys don't go to daycare yet, this has been a great way for them to get used to interacting with other kids their age on a regular basis and in a structured environment. I also appreciated Claire's honest opinion about my boys' progress and any concerns she had. Claire has bridged the gap for my son. COVID stopped his access to public care dead in it's tracks before he even got into the rhythm. Claire has made sure that while we are still awaiting help, my son has not only stopped falling behind, but started the long road to catching up. Two stars for having an easy to understand online registration process. Disappointed in their administrative staff and their lack of organization and attention to detail. The owner I found to be rather curt and disinterested in learning about her clients or the issues her administrative staff was having. My husband and I were wondering why the pediatric speech therapy was so affordable compared to others, but I believe you get what you pay for. My son attended a 12 week session with Ms Margarita, who was sweet, patiently and professional with my speech delayed child. My son could only utter a few words before his session started. We started PLTA with Claire and her wonderful staff when my son was 20 months. He was born preemie at 30 weeks so we had a lot of catching up to do. He had maybe two words at the time and was not used to playing in small group or individual sessions. Over the past 4-5 months, the staff has worked patiently in individual sessions with Declan and he has really picked up on the speech and now says about 50-60 words and 3-4 two-word sentences at 24 months old. He copies the phrases, words, and even gestures that he has learned from speech. What we found was also beneficial was Play Palos Junior group sessions to teach him interactive play skills, learning and playing with others, and practicing taking turns and sharing in a safe social environment. As a mother, it's hard to hear that your child has a speech delay of any kind. My daughter turned 1 days before the COVID shutdown in 2020. Unfortunately, that meant she was unable to have any interaction aside from us and her sister. This affected her speech. Pediatric Language Therapy Associates was recommended by our pediatrician. It was a bit of a drive, but it was worth it. We worked with an amazing speech therapist. I could see the excitement in her eyes whenever my daughter would have a breakthrough or meet a goal. She was legitimately happy to see her progress. I understand that children are all different. For us, our daughter met her goals quickly. The therapist was constantly giving me resources to be able to work with her at home as well. Since she met her goals, we decided (along with the therapists) that going to school full time instead of part time would be good for her. I can't say enough about Ms. Claire and her staff. We have been seeing her on a weekly basis for about 6 months in total. Her facility is clean and organized. Covid procedures are followed. She has a gentle, caring, fun and firm approach in her sessions. My son tries to lead the sessions and Ms. Claire controls him in a fun way to which he happily agrees with her requests. I'm also impressed with how well Ms. Claire is able to demonstrate and create analogies so that my son understands what he is supposed to do. Almost all our sessions have been on time. She was late once in 6 months and she gave us a heads up text on that day stating she was running behind. And best of all, my son has made progress with his pronunciation since seeing Ms. Claire. When Ms. Claire wanted us to take a short break in our sessions, my son kept telling me he missed Ms. Claire and wanted to go see her again. He's clearly a fan too. read more

My twins had speech teachers in elementary school and briefly using our medical coverage when they were in middle school. They practiced but grew frustrated and stopped. In high school, they decided to try speech therapy again for their rhotacism. We were referred to Claire and they immediately liked her positive, uplifting personality. After having a terrible evaluation experience at another speech clinic, I found Pediatric Langugae Therapy. Claire and her staff are wonderful! We have been to an evaluation, play group, and one 1:1 session. All of the experiences were great. During the evaluation, the speech therapists interacted with my daughter in a meaningful well. My daughter was being evaluated for speech but she felt she was playing with friends. The playgroup was lots of fun and super helpful. I really like the playgroup you can join. I didn't find any other speech clinics who offered this service. My daughter's one on one session was super full helpful. Her speech therapist, Nicole, offered me lots of suggestions of things I could do at home with my daughter. The wrap around support is beyond helpful. Overall, Pediatric Language Therapy's staff is wonderful and caring. To top it all off, they take our insurance and they just moved into a new beautiful, super kid friendly space. We drive 30 minutes from Walnut Creek to Pediatric Langugae therapy and it is worth every minute! When we pulled into the parking lot last time my daughter was excited and that is a wonderful thing. This is a great practice with a wonderful staff. My 4 year old son started the bi-weekly Play Pals Group about two months ago, and has made new friends and has started making much better transitions throughout the day.
