The decor is clean and welcoming, the staff are friendly and the queues occasionally very long. But not an unpleasant space to be in.

After…read morechecking into the Morgan around the corner, I made my way over to this exchange and converted the money I needed for my time in Dublin before moving on to Northern Ireland. The man behind the counter was courteous and professional, carefully counting the bills to ensure I had the correct amount. When I returned to Dublin towards the end of our trip, I finally converted the sterling I had been carrying since Derry to euro, since apparently, Galway had no places that exchanged period. I didn't realize that -- and that's the case with any exchange place. The only thing you can't do is convert coins. So unless you want to save them from reminiscing about your time in the country, make sure to spend the coinage. But I have had good experiences the two times I used the exchange, so no complaints from my end.

They state that they don't charge any fees, which technically is true. But you know, a business needs to make money. So, there will always be a high and low average for conversion rates for the day. You'll be offered the rate that leaves the largest margin for them to be able to take a cut out of. Which for what I need, totally fair. Even if you're just walking in, book the conversion online on your phone first because that's how you'll avoid any additional fees.

It also is a popular hang out for bored youths, it attracted a skater culture for as long as I can remember. Really nice spacious new building, it's a welcoming change from the old dull branch. What's super impressive is the online account service, so this sets them apart from the average credit union. Just like online banking from your bank, I can go on and see my transactions across my savings and/loan accounts. Ok ye don't get all the functionality of online banking but being able to set up standing order and just leave it going, with a little eye over it every now and again. Also when I moved out of the district they allowed me to keep my account there and have been nothing but friendly and accommodating since.

The main thing here is how lovely the staff are. Helpful, friendly and they are there to genuinely assist you if they can at all. So, how do you rate credit unions?! By the staff? By the building? I felt confident as I watched a multitude sidle up to the ATMs to conduct their transactions without any problems. Besides, it wasn't exactly a kiosk at a pub, right? I mean we're talking the Bank of Ireland, so I popped in my card without much thought and out popped my euros. No worries at all. Just a little irritation coming from the lady behind me as I took my time to make sure I got it right. As far as I can tell, all went well and I'm still in possession of a few of those euro, thanks to some savvy maneuvering on my part!

I got up and headed down to my local branch preparing to sell my soul and cry if I had to. As it turns out, tears weren't needed. It would seem all the paperwork The Bank From Up North wouldn't accept proved to be more than enough. The lovely lady who helped me suggested I set up student account as there are no fees. Score. All in all it took less than twenty minutes for me to set up my account. Love these guys.
