So glad I booked this place because it was a nice break away from the stressful and crowded Norway in a Nutshell tour. It's a 2 mi / 45 min scenic walk to Flåm, where you can explore the small town that includes a free museum, some seafood places, a Coop grocery store, and a nice view of the head of a fjord. It's around $7 to take the Flamsbana from Håreina to Flåm. I would suggest walking to town and then taking the train back, or if you're up to it - walking both ways. This place is a great escape from tourists (and society, in general). It was so peaceful, tranquil, and completely unreal to be able to walk outside and read a book on a hammock with the cleanest air around me and the mountains as a backdrop. Our host was incredibly wonderful and sweet. She even fed us some of her homemade flat bread. She was considerate enough to send us a message saying that she wouldn't be in when we arrived, so she made arrangements for us to check in otherwise. The apt is so cute and was perfect for my girlfriend and myself. I think it'd be a great getaway for a small group or family of 4. The beds are queen-sized, and there's even a small kitchen if you ever want to cook your own meal. Plates, glasses, and eating utensils are provided. There was even tea bags, instant coffee, and a kettle for use. The laundry machine isn't very user friendly, but the user manual is provided. It definitely works, but can take a while. Linens and towels are not provided and can be rented. She just asks that you wash your dishes and throw out the garbage before you check out. Also! Her daughter has a forest cat that roams around the front of the apartments. She's sweet, friendly, and not afraid of people. Just a warning for those who are allergic.

We enjoyed it so much, we returned the next evening to try their cheeseburger and salami pizza (we had taken a fjord safari cruise and the guide recommended their pizzas). Every single thing we ate was absolutely delicious, highlighting fresh, high-quality ingredients. The service is highly efficient: you order at the counter, choose your seat, and they bring the food straight to your table. The staff was consistently friendly, helpful, and quick. Both days there was plenty of room in the gastropub and we did not have to wait for a seat. We also got to experience both seating areas. The outdoor patio offers a lovely view while keeping you totally comfortable, heated, and protected from the elements. Our second night, we sat inside, which has a wonderfully cozy atmosphere. The check-in was a breeze and the rooms were modern and well maintained with modern bath and comfortable bedding. Our refrigerator was not working properly and they replaced it efficiently. The onsite brewery/restaurant is quite good but you should also book a reservation there for dinner during busy season.

It was a very convenient spot to take some tours and day trips from. My biggest recommendation is to book everything in advance. Hotel reservation, restaurant reservations, tours, and transportation. Since Flåm gets cruise ships almost daily things book up. There aren't many options for restaurants open after 6pm in flam so it was nice to have one available in the hotel. The hotel was a little dated but the amenities were clean and comfortable. The room was fairly spacious and quiet. We enjoyed our balcony as the view is breathtaking! The shower/ tub is a big step to get into so be aware before booking if you have troubles with large steps. Breakfast was a tasty inclusion and served buffet style. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our room on the fourth floor in the newer section was small as was the bathroom. The window was unique since it was more of a glass greenhouse which gave an interesting perspective of the fjord. The bed was super mushy. And at this price point no refrigerator / mini bar... The public spaces were clean and up to date. We had both dinner and breakfast included in our package which for two people was about 200 NOK. Both buffets were expansive especially the dinner buffet - the selection was huge! Everything was tasty. Since we don't leave until later in the day they stored our luggage for us. Overall a nice stay but even if this was 50% less it was a rip off.

We had a standard room and use of the cosy guest lounges with free coffee and tea on tap. The beds were wonderfully comfortable. We stayed half-Board and the food and selection was excellent. It was originally built as a sanatorium in 1896, but it was never used for its intended purpose. Instead, it became popular as a hotel because of the Bergen Railway. After the Bergen Railway was opened in 1909, and especially after the Flåm Railway was connected with the Bergen Railway in 1940 it became a go to destination but times and fortune change. My first impression; I thought I was in an old folks home. It's on different floor levels within so one goes up/down a few steps to get to different rooms. It's not for wheelchair users. We arrived here without any welcome as 'cash cows'. We were part of the Flåm £15O a head railway trip off Norwegian Prima. Our guide walked us up a slope from the station, in the rain, into the hotel, on a wet dank afternoon, only to tell us to go down two floors inside, for rather poor - tasting filtered cool coffee that sat on the tables in flasks. As we were cash cows other cash cows who were there from an earlier trip had blocked the narrow hallway in which was annoying given the cold rain as we were held outside jostling to get in. As we were a crowd we were put in an ugly nondescript room packed tight with fellow travellers. It resembled a school assembly hall with a public sector school dinner approach. So once we got into the downstairs room allocated for us we poured flasked coffee into tiny hotel style cold cups ending up with lukewarm lousy coffee which is unpleasant. If the (cold, limp, thin) waffles that sat plated on a top table were loving made fresh by the hotel's chef, from the finest flour, mountain butter and cream, treacly cane sugar from Mauritius and fresh free range double yolked XL eggs from happy chickens living their best life on a mountain side then sadly it isn't working as these potentially microwaved limp offerings had all the hallmarks of vegetable oil and powdered egg factory manufacturing. The raspberry jam (I expected cloudberry) and runny sour cream helped but honestly if you were served this stuff in a local cafe you'd be reluctant to pay and you wouldn't return. Given it's a £150 a head they have a cheek serving this rubbish. Having looked around the hotel and its surroundings I was glad ours was a brief visit. If the food served to guests is anything like the poor quality we got it has little going for it except the location. I have no desire to return.
