The view of the fjord is beautiful, and that alone makes dining here worth it. You couldn't really hear the music from where we were sitting by the window, but we didn't mind. I tried the cod. The fish was perfectly cooked and paired with tender potatoes and a delicious parsnip purée. Overall, I would recommend the Flåm Marina & Apartments for dinner in Flåm.

The onsite brewery/restaurant is quite good but you should also book a reservation there for dinner during busy season.

The hostel/cabins book months in advance, so don't come here expecting to find a room the same day. We made that mistake and were directed to the campsite instead. I have to admit, paying 225 krone (about $30) per night to pitch our tent on a random patch of grass was a disappointment, but you'd be hard-pressed to find anything cheaper in Flam, which is a major tourist destination. This place is in a solid location too, as it is about a 5-minute walk from the bus station. As far as campsites go, this one is very basic. There are water spouts, bathrooms with coin-op showers, a small communal kitchen, a playground for the kidlets, and coin-op laundry. Food options are a mini-store at the info desk and a food truck that comes at night. There are some broken wooden picnic tables to eat your food at, some covered by the pavilion and others uncovered. Bathrooms are clean enough. If I were to return to Flam, I would book a cabin way in advance, since it seemed to be an overall much nicer experience.

The rooms are quite small, but the beds were comfortable with plenty of pillows. Our shower room however only had scalding hot water. During a very hot summer, this was very problematic. The wash sink had appropriate-temperature water. There was basically no air movement even with the windows wide open. The place is fairly far out from the main Flam attractions -- about half-a-mile or so. Breakfast was included and decent. Fairly typical Norwegian fare of fish, caviar, bread, hard-boiled eggs, etc. I can't compare prices, as all other available hotels were unavailable by time we had booked.

Get Out of My Dreams, Get Into My Car *Beep Beep*…read more While one of the most picturesque places in Norway, the fishing village of Flåm is overrun by throngs of cruise ship tourists severely lacking both peripheral vision and manners. Escape the madness and bruises by hopping into a Twizy electric car to enjoy a hilarious, zippy ride through tunnels and serpentine roads (perfect for anyone trying to avoid Ramsey Bolton's arrows)! Dress warmly and surrender your hair to the wind as there are no side windows. To avoid the stuffed clown car look, avoid bringing large bags or purses if you can--the Twizy is smaller than a golf cart. "Get in the back seat baby, get in to my car, beep beep, yeah..." While loads of fun, this won't be the most comfortable ride. There is not much leg room for the driver, and the passenger must closely straddle the driver's seat. You may even need to origami contort and fold yourself to get in and out of the car, after opening up the doors Batmobile-style. But hey, you can always Downy Wrinkle Release the creases out afterwards! As you work your way out of Flåm, fellow tourists will point, ogle, take pictures, and ask you where they too can rent a Twizy. Smile and give your best Queen Elizabeth wave! The tourists will also tend to linger in the middle of the road like lost goats while they stare. While tempting to pretend you've also left your peripheral vision at home, it's best to be patient and enjoy your pseudo paparazzi moment. "Let me take your wheel, smooth operator, touch my bumper, Hey, let's make a deal..." The car comes with GPS programmed to guide you to one of several destinations, with a bonus pretentious GPS audio guide. Score! Your audio guide, should you select one in a language that you actually speak, will spew fun anecdotes and sarcastic jokes, tell you when to stop or turn, and give you relevant information about your destination. I think our guide had a devious side as she occasionally forgot to tell us to turn, and even once told us to go in the opposite direction that we were supposed to go. I'm pretty sure I heard her snickering in the background. The price was NOK 800 (approximately $100) for a one hour tour to Aurland, but it is closer to $200 if you choose the ride to Stegastein. Reserve your car(s) ahead of time...even though they may have many that appear to be free, they may not all be charged up. Definitely a worthwhile adventure if you get the chance! And it's Billy Ocean approved!

Doable if you have carryon. Lots of other people walk, so it is normal. Road is paved. Up the road is the trailhead to a waterfall that is amazing. There are ten rooms of varying sizes in the 300+ year old home. The kitchen is stocked enough to cook basics. Walls are thin, but there are notes posted to have specific, low volume after a certain hour. It is a little walk from the reception office. No other amenities. The shared bathroom was not a problem and each room has its own locking door. Beds very comfortable. Portable radiator in room worked great. We had the family room that sleeps 4 with a cozy table where we enjoyed playing cards.

So glad I booked this place because it was a nice break away from the stressful and crowded Norway in a Nutshell tour. It's a 2 mi / 45 min scenic walk to Flåm, where you can explore the small town that includes a free museum, some seafood places, a Coop grocery store, and a nice view of the head of a fjord. It's around $7 to take the Flamsbana from Håreina to Flåm. I would suggest walking to town and then taking the train back, or if you're up to it - walking both ways. This place is a great escape from tourists (and society, in general). It was so peaceful, tranquil, and completely unreal to be able to walk outside and read a book on a hammock with the cleanest air around me and the mountains as a backdrop. Our host was incredibly wonderful and sweet. She even fed us some of her homemade flat bread. She was considerate enough to send us a message saying that she wouldn't be in when we arrived, so she made arrangements for us to check in otherwise. The apt is so cute and was perfect for my girlfriend and myself. I think it'd be a great getaway for a small group or family of 4. The beds are queen-sized, and there's even a small kitchen if you ever want to cook your own meal. Plates, glasses, and eating utensils are provided. There was even tea bags, instant coffee, and a kettle for use. The laundry machine isn't very user friendly, but the user manual is provided. It definitely works, but can take a while. Linens and towels are not provided and can be rented. She just asks that you wash your dishes and throw out the garbage before you check out. Also! Her daughter has a forest cat that roams around the front of the apartments. She's sweet, friendly, and not afraid of people. Just a warning for those who are allergic.
