A Hidden Gem in Reston, VA!!!!…read more My children (age 8 and 6) have been attending the Academy of Christian Education for almost 5 years now. We couldn't be happier with the significant changes we've seen in both of our children. You will not find another school in the Northern Virginia area that dedicates every ounce of its being to serving your children and family. From the moment you walk through the door at ACE, Mrs. Butler makes you feel as if you've been part of the family for ages! The staff at ACE are committed to providing a loving, supportive, and academically-enriched environment to our children. Through the years, our family has built lasting relationships with teachers and staff at ACE. There is also a strong community with other families - something that is invaluable for raising children in this area! ACE has provided an exceptional academic and social foundation for my children. The staff at ACE genuinely care about my children and their academic and personal well being. Every day, they are greeted by smiles and cheerful "good mornings" by professionals who guide them, and push them to excellence. The curriculum is accelerated, but the support and pacing are balanced to ensure that my children can be successful if they put in the work.

Our daughter is not academically inclined and Oakcrest is an elite college preparatory school. With that being said, we have asked on several occasions if she wishes to explore easier alternatives. She refuses to and has cried over it because of how much she loves her teachers and her friends. Our family and extended family have joined efforts in investing in our daughter's education at Oakcrest specifically in hopes that she will form into a beautiful, young lady and that she will have a safe place to learn about God, to love herself, and to build friendships that last a life time. The smiles and cheerfulness is not just on brochures, it's actually in person as well! How incredible it is to see the girls are so happy here at this school. By following the Opus Dei teachings, the school has been able to be mindful of what those teachings really mean as they've built a culture surrounding it. The social norms and mainstream media issues are not completely isolated from the girls, but they definitely are kept at bay. We find this to be vital as the girls already have enough on their plate during these teenage years to navigate through the hormones and self-identity struggles. They know those things exist and they can be exposed later once they've learned who they are and how they want to perceive the media rather than the media having a say over their life. Our family is heavily involved in the school functions and appreciate Oakcrest's faculty and staff for their dedication. We would be happy to recommend Oakcrest to others with similar values who are looking to have a Christ-centered education and for the girls to see their personal worth and how that plays a role in living out the sanctity of daily life.

Ideaventions operates more like a very small homeschool or micro-school than a traditional private…read moreschool. While this type of environment may work well for some families seeking a highly informal, hands-off setting, it was not a good fit for our family. At the elementary level, we observed wide variation in academic readiness within classrooms, with students at very different skill levels learning together. In our experience, students' academic strengths appeared to reflect individual ability or outside enrichment rather than outcomes consistently supported by the instructional program. Enrollment size is extremely small, particularly in the upper grades. We were told that recent graduating classes consisted of only one or two students, which raised concerns for us about long-term sustainability, peer learning opportunities, and social development. Families seeking sports, group activities, or broader peer interaction may find this limiting. When we asked basic, reasonable questions about curriculum and placement, communication with administration felt strained rather than collaborative. We were frequently told "we are a family here," which in practice seemed to function as a way to discourage questions or parent input. Over time, this created discomfort around advocacy rather than partnership. The school structure concentrates multiple roles within a single leader (administrator, teacher, coach, and primary decision-maker). This consolidation made the environment feel insular and, at times, uncomfortable when raising concerns. Families who value clear professional boundaries, transparency, and shared problem-solving may find this challenging. While the school promotes STEM accreditation and innovation, our experience did not reflect consistent alignment with basic public-school academic benchmarks. Families considering enrollment should ask detailed questions about curriculum standards, differentiation, and how parent feedback is handled. The school is very small, has no PTA, and limited avenues for parent collaboration. This school may be appropriate for families seeking a more affordable, informal, and highly hands-off educational setting. For families who expect academic rigor, openness to questions, and a collaborative relationship with school leadership, expectations should be managed carefully. Some families may have had different experiences, but ours was ultimately disappointing.

His love for physics and mathematics is nurtured there, and he is surrounded by people with a similar work ethic and drive. However, don't be fooled by the name! The school offers a plethora of clubs and events specifically tailored to the overall interests of the students, and seems to be an amazing school overall.

Same counselors may have told student to tell parent "if he touches you he goes to jail". Case in point. Do not recall details, but I was admonishing step daughter for her behavior. This had been going on for months, Low grades, claimed no need to study, it was easy. She was on top of stairs and I was at bottom. "you touch me you go to jail". Had no laid hand on her ever, never threatened such. She was. new to U.S. some culture shock perhaps, wanted to fit in, high school cliques being what they are she may have suffered, but no more than many other students in similar situation who graduated with honors. She may have complained to counselors, which is good to have someone outside the home to speak with re any perceived "home issues". In my view, the counselor, did no look at the record and grades, and even though the advise may have been correct, I am certain, it did not go beyond that, in that eg. you should not miss classes, grades need to go up, and ask specific questions re any perceived fears. There was a reason that there was a banner in front of the high school, "number 19 (as I recall ) in the nation" and within 1-2 years such banner was gone and may not have stayed tops. Two three discussions with school staff clearly indicated that they lacked training and had no real interest in the students other, than go through the motions .Hope things have changed. I cannot imagine in my day, if I went to a counselor with a problem, and the counselor spoke with my parents the counselor would say "he is an adult".
