What's changed is the neighborhood... The central business district used to be well located for site seeing but pretty dead atmosphere wise. Just corporate buildings and workers. Quiet at night and silent on the weekends. Now, it's an amazing hub of activity with residents, coffee shops, restaurant, bars, shops and more plus the corporate buildings. The main drag, George Street, is now pedestrian only and relaxing to walk along. We look forward to returning again somehow, some way, in the future! We already agreed Mantra 2 on Bond Street will be our destination again! Sydney Australia was my last stop of my trip to Southeast Asia, South Asia, and Oceania returning…read moreto the USA. A suite with an open balcony was reserved through Booking.com but at check-in, a room without an open balcony was assigned. The next day the error was brought to the attention of morning staff and there was instant pushback. I was told than an enclosed balcony is essentially the same as an open balcony as the difference was attributed to mere nuance. Another staff member chimed in and interjected false misinformation was attributed to false advertising on Booking.com . To be clear, Booking.com is merely a third-party online travel agency (OTA) who receives information from hotels to post on their website and has done nothing wrong. I then showed them a pic taken from my room of the adjacent tower that clearly shows open balconies; and I showed them photos from the booking.com website which was the reserved suite which clearly showed an amazing view with an open balcony. There was an uncomfortable silence before a staff member walked their lie back by saying they may not have any open balcony suites available, but he will check his computerized system and then have me the good news that a suite with an open balcony was available. I was instructed to repack and leave my luggage inside the room next the door before I left the hotel for the day such that before I return to the hotel that evening, my luggage would be transferred to a suite with an open balcony. I was told I only need to retrieve the key to the new room at the front desk upon my return to the hotel that evening. Upon returning to hotel that evening, no reassignment to the correct room was done, and there were no notes to the file for my account such that I had to explain the entire situation again to the evening staff who also gave similar pushback, and disingenuously blaming booking.com for false advertising. After finally agreeing to my request , they put me in danger by assigning me to an OCCUPIED ROOM! I noticed a backpack on a kitchen cabinet as I entered the room, and I immediately exited the room without discovery of the occupants that I entered their room! I was then re-assigned a third room, but it was on a lower floor which no amazing view. Moreover , the sliding door to the balcony was locked so I could not access the enclosed balcony. I was initially told maintenance would be there momentarily to unlock the sliding door to the balcony before later being told that the door would be unlocked the next day. The next morning, I asked the morning staff to reassign a suite with a nice view and open balcony consistence with the photos posted on Booking.com; and once again, they told me to repack and place my luggage by the room door again and before I returned that evening, they would move my luggage to the correct suite with a nice view and an open balcony. Upon returning to the hotel that evening, the evening staff did have notes in the file this time but told me that I had not reassigned me to another room because only 2 bedroom suites with open balconies are available at the upper floors with the spectacular views, as if to suggest that the slight difference in cost of a 1-bedroom suite and 2-bedroom suite would be of consequence to me. I eagerly paid the extra cost for the 2-bedroom suite at an upper floor, and the evening staff begrudgingly reassigned me to a suite with an open balcony. After a multitude of excuses, and after FOUR ATTEMPTS over a period of THREE DAYS, the Meriton Suites to finally get it right. Based upon my experience, I am likely that the first Black to ever be assigned a premiere suite with an amazing view and an open balcony at this hotel. All is not bad, as a dapper White lad with bland hair named Alexandro exhibited exemplary customer service and tried his best to assist me within the confines of his management. He understood my frustration and is NOT a racist. Alexandro apologized on behalf of his staff , and his efforts were sincerely appreciated. I interfaced with virtual all reservation staff, both morning and evening staff and received their relentless pushback in my effort to be assigned the 1-bedroom upper floor premiere suite with an open balcony that was prepaid due to covert systematic racism. Like Austria, my home country of the USA also has a shameful barbaric history of unprovoked invasions and encroachment by Western Europeans which includes brutal slavery and cruel genocide of millions of innocent victims; such that this legacy of racism is something I recognize. The solution is for Aboriginal peoples to be employed at the reservation desk such that professional relations can be developed with Blacks to mitigate racist culture. I encourage all potential future patrons to apply soft pressure by referring to this review and asking if any Blacks have been hired before booking with this hotel, and also tell Alexandro 'Earnie' says hello.

Bathroom is fantastic in terms of size, balcony is beautiful but the rest needs a massive revamp. With the amount that they charge I can't understand why they don't refurbish the hotel. No internet but if you join the loyalty program you get free WiFi. I suggest you join the loyalty club! You can hear quite a bit of noise from the outside. The view of planes taking off and landing from the airport is just amazing for me! Overall the hotel is good just in need of a revamp!

She upgraded my room for free, so I got a suite on the 10th floor with a view if the beach. It was even cooler to see the airport, actually. She also came around from the country and showed me which pamphlets were useful for sightseeing. Awesome. My biggest problem is that there is no free internet. Well you can get it for free for 30 min in the lobby, but that's crazy.

For the elevators, you need your room key to get to the floors with the rooms, which of course makes sense. I did not have any issue getting to the floors with the event spaces. The lobby itself always remained clean and there is free candy on Fridays and Saturdays. My only issue is that the bathrooms continued to run out of toilet paper. Being that they knew there was an event there with over 100 people, bathroom supplies should've been filled more often.

It's in an excellent location. Right across the street from Hyde Park and in walking distance to the harbor, opera house and many other places. You drive up and their lobby is nice and clean and their front desk personnel is dressed well. The photos looked good, and I couldn't wait to get to my room to unwind. Parking was an extra $50 ASD per night, but most of the parking downtown is pricey.... we made it in to their tiny garage and found a spot. Got to the room and didn't know how to use the key fob for the lift...eventually got to the room and the key card wouldn't work. Got into their tiny lift again to talk to the front desk and waited a while because their tiny lift can only fit 11 persons.... and I think there are only two lifts. Plus the 2nd floor is some massage school packed with Vietnamese students going up and down the lifts...... ugh! Anyway, we finally get to the room and ...... it's mediocre. The plumbing wasn't that great, the ac kept making this weird vibrating noise periodically that kept me up the first night, I had a view of the top of another building (and I was in the 3rd floor), the oven/stove thing didn't fit the counter right so it was hanging. Oh ya they charge for Wi-Fi after tricking u into using their 30minute complimentary Wi-Fi. Let's just say all in all, for the price it beats staying in a hostel, however, maybe next time I would consider paying the extra $$. I think we paid $160/night USD and then an extra $50 ASD a night for parking. Their pool was ok, the route to the pool and sauna was a little sketchy.. and their fitness room was tiny. This was my first time to Australia so I knew nothing about the area but upon doing some research it looked like it was centrally located to many venues and the airport via public trans and also within walking distance. First off, I don't consider this hotel luxurious by any means, and I don't mean that in a bad way; however, it is very comfortable! I would compare it to a Marriott Residence Inn here in the US. It was very clean and spacious with amazing views! Staff was always very personable, friendly, efficient, and accommodating to our needs. Location is awesome because it is within walking distance to both the Museum Station and Town Hall train stations as well as several bus stations. As a matter of fact, we did do quite a bit of walking as well rather than taking public trans for exercising and it took the same amount of time in certain instances (like rush hour) to get to the same place(s). As for most accommodations, nothing is without its faults. I could not get the dishwasher to work and I thought it was just user error; come to find out, it is backed up with water inside. I phoned the front desk in the morning prior to leaving for the day and when we returned it still wasn't fixed so I called again and they sent someone to fix it, which they did quickly. They informed us that they do not provide housekeeping services but if we needed anything to just ask, and ask we did! They also sent someone daily during the last couple of days during our stay to empty the trash and provide us with clean towels and other necessities (without asking). They are very conservative with toiletries and any other standard necessities such as soap, shampoo, dish soap, toilet paper, etc.. as a matter of fact, they do not provide paper towels and they also were hard to find at any local stores, so it must be the way they are, which is fine, just wasn't used to that here in the states (we also had to ask for coffee daily unless we went out and made a run ourselves to a coffee shop). Bed was comfortable; however, I did notice towards the end of our stay while making it that the mattress topper was stained and I knew that wasn't from me! I called the front desk to let them know and they had someone bring a new freshly washed mattress topper. They also provide laundry service as well as washers and dryers in every unit which was convenient and thoughtful as I took advantage and did laundry every day. They also provide laundry detergent (but no softener) which comes in a little tube and is probably just enough for a small load so I ended up buying a small box at one of the local grocery stores so I didn't have to keep asking. While we had no issues with the HVAC system in our unit, we noticed the hallways had either no AC or they did not turn it on as well as part of the lobbyway. It was a little uncomfortable especially waiting for an elevator (they dub it a "lift"). Speaking of the "lift", wait times could be long depending on how busy it was & generally early mornings were the best with no waiting. I did feel secure, however, as you are only allowed to the 15th fl where the gym is located, the lobby, and the floor that your unit is located. As for the cost, it is considered pricey by Australian standards; however, given the exchange rate per USD it was substantially cheaper and a great value for the money & this was a high floor unit (48th fl)! If I return to Australia someday (which I hope I will, it is a great country) I'd definitely stay in a Meriton Suites again!

Also, a lot of places around the hotel stays open late and walking around is safe. The reason I'm giving three stars is because of the service I got and the slow ass elevators. I arrived at 8am and the room wasn't ready, which was expected. I asked if I could borrow a key to access the gym so I can shower to freshen up for a meeting in a couple hours. The front desk said they can but they would charge me extra, which is absurd because the Meriton on Pitt St. nearby offered to let me use the gym to shower for free when I was in Sydney a couple months ago. The only reason I even asked about the gym access was because Pitt St. offered it to me so I thought it was an option since I'm a guest. This and even the Pitt St. location has slow elevators that it takes forever to go up and come down. This location has more elevators than Pitt, but still slow as hell. Their elevator operating system is really inefficient. Overall, I'd still come back because of the apartment style, room has a washing machine, and location. Wish they could just improve on what I mentioned.

When housekeeping arrived they attempted to salvage the bedding. As each layer was pulled back it was worse than originally thought. The pillows had spots and stains the sheets had off unclean discoloration. While attempting to put new sheets on the "new" sheets were in such bad shape they ripped and the housekeeping person just abandoning them. He left stating and will come back with a new set. The room itself is spacious with a mini frig that's cold, a coffee maker, flat screen TV and comfortable bed. Restaurant on 1st floor, gym on 12th floor, and laundry on bottom floor. There is a bar area in the lobby area, Overall very nice hotel.
