I hadn't been since I was a kid, so I was excited to visit again. For the most part, a lot was the same as I remember and I was excited to show the kids. There were a few new things too, which was cool. We didn't get a chance to do the planetarium ($5 on the free third Thursdays) nor the giant screen theater (also $5). Next time, I for sure want to take my son inside the planetarium because it was my most favorite thing as a kid. Hopefully, he'll love it too. As an adult, the museum definitely seems a bit random and there's not a whole lot that's interesting (unless you're a huge science/history fan). Overall, the kids enjoyed themselves and that's all that matters.

I attended an event here and needed to use the elevator to access a classroom. I was able to use it…read moreonce. The second time I attempted to use it, the doors kept opening / closing and an alarm went off. The security and staff stared at me like I was insane for asking about the elevator. I have a cane and had to ask more than once to use the elevator, and was warned that it doesn't always work. This is not ADA compliant and seriously needs to be fixed. This center isn't friendly to those with physical disabilities or wheelchair users.

The museum is very well done and takes you through the history of the Civil Rights Movement in a way that is both educational and powerful. There is so much to read, see, and experience that we spent several hours here and still felt like we could have spent more time. The most moving part of the visit was seeing the Lorraine Motel and standing outside Room 306, where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. spent his final moments. It is hard to describe the feeling of being there in person. As a teacher and a parent, I especially appreciated how the museum encourages important conversations about history, equality, and justice. The exhibits are thoughtfully put together and tell stories that everyone should hear. I would definitely recommend wearing comfortable shoes and giving yourself plenty of time because this is not a place you want to rush through. The experience stays with you long after you leave. This was one of the highlights of our trip to Memphis and a place I believe everyone should visit at least once.

That aside, he created a whole new music world and set standards that are still in existence today. A trendsetter and a person not willing to back off from taking a chance. He made a difference in the world. Myself, wife and friends came here to Graceland as we were on an Mississippi River cruise and Memphis was a stop. I mean if you're here, how could you not visit? There is no limit to what you see here. The Lisa Marie Museum, his museum which have videos, his clothing, and various possessions of his. The car museum was amazing, especially the Pink Cadillac, his Rolls Royces, corvettes....the list goes on and on. His famous jets, are also parked outside. There is just no limit to seeing all this awesome. My only advice is to allow enough time so you are not rushed through anything. Take your time and read all the narration attached to the items. Watch the videos and see him in action after you've seen his clothing and jewelry. And most important... look at the photos of him and Lisa Marie. He just loved her so much and you see it in the photos. Just an amazing experience that all travelers should add to their "to-do' list. KUDOs to the team at Graceland.

This time, when a friend came to town, I finally worked up the courage to explore it together. To my surprise, the neighborhood has changed so much. The area is now well developed and organized, completely different from what I remembered. I really enjoyed taking my time reading through the exhibits and learning about the history of soul music and the incredible artists who shaped it. There was something deeply emotional about learning about the decline of the community and studio, while also witnessing its rebirth and preservation. There is a small gift shop. And a hands on exhibit for the children to touch and feel and create conversations. Also the scavenger hut had them reading exhibits, reading questions and searching for answers - great group cooperation. They were also able to hand make pottery bowls to take home. I've heard about this place forever but finally decided to make the trek down there and spend some time. I am part Native American and while I never knew my grandmother, the history and culture has always piqued my interest...even though (full disclosure) I know basically nothing. I should have mentioned before (although you probably guessed by the name) that this is a Native American museum and abandoned village site from the 1500s. There is an 8 minute introductory video that is a little bit confusing. I say confusing because I didn't find it very informative and it lost my interest after about a minute and a half. All I gathered from it is that the University of Memphis controls the site and a lot of their students write projects on it. Oh, and they talk about the "hands on" exhibit kids get to see where they get to see archaeological finds. I peaked in afterwards and it was pretty cool. If you have kids, this would be very fun for them. The exhibits inside are very small with more words and reproduction displays than artifacts and I spent the majority of the time outside. It was a gorgeous day and the village is beautiful but there isn't really that much to look at...or information. I think this place would be a goldmine for kids though. I liked it but don't think I'd take a second trip back unless there was a special event. Definitely, definitely glad I went though. It is really cool to know more of Memphis's history. Oh, and there are also hiking trails through the forest. We started but I didn't have the right shoes on. Great place to be outdoors!
