This terrible dance studio comes complete with dance moms from hell. The owner is not well organized and doesn't like confrontation. She doesn't deal well with people at all. And she is HORRIBLE at communicating. She assumes that people can read her mind then yells at the kids when they do things wrong. And messages are last minute all the time. Practices are scheduled with less than 24 hours notice, for example. Seriously? Some of us work and need to make arrangements for unscheduled events!!!!!! And she gets overly emotional - weeping at meetings and recitals. It is extremely uncomfortable to be around someone like that when they are responsible for your child. And because she is so unsteady the dance moms do anything they want - they act like they own the place, and they are there all the time. It is impossible to get away from them. If you are not part of the "inner circle" at this place you SCREWED. Seriously. And the moms set the example for the kids so, big surprise, bullying is rampant there. Which the owner doesn't address because she just doesn't want to deal with it. Large groups of people leave this place every year because this place is so awful to deal with. If your child is not on the dance competition team, they don't get as many opportunities or much support - the owner told me directly she mostly cares about the competitions they win - aka, not the kids). And the other 3 main teachers/dance coaches are her daughters. What type of checks and balances can you have with that setup if there are issues - i.e. With a teacher?? And 2 of the daughters are NOT nice. One yelled at a group of girls after recital this year - saying "Jesus, would you get out of my way"?!?! And the other is constantly short with everyone. What type of teacher and coach acts like that? And it REALLY gets interesting when the 3 sisters get catty with each other!!!
If you want a supportive learning environment that encourages learning and development for your child, this is NOT it.
Avoid this place like the plague - you will save yourself and your child a lot of heartache. We stayed too long and I'm still helping my young child deal with the aftermath. She doesn't want to dance at all now. And she deals with anxiety with teachers now. And she is TERRIFIED that she will run into the owner of this place or teachers someday.
There are so many good dance studios out there - I would recommend that you talk to moms or visit studios and watch how everyone interacts to learn which studios will provide a good learning environment. read more
