Even if it's "not my thing" Its still a great time. The staff is kind and knowledgeable and happy to share and answer questions. Last week I participated in a Foil Sculpting Workshop with artist Douglas Shaw Elder. It rocked! Who knew you could sculpt with aluminum foil? The participants were kids through artists and me! We all left with foil sculptures and another reason to love this gallery.

Because nothing says artsy like naked women statues. Done tastefully of course... I'm sort of joking about all of that, except the price tag. There really is a sculpture in there for $60,000. Actually, I'm not even sure if you can buy that. The musicians (i.e. the pianist and flautist) at JRB are for the lack of a better word, amazing. I think I spent more time listening to them than looking at the exhibition pieces. Most people probably came for the free champagne and hor d'oeuvres while pretending they cared about art that costs more than their cars (more than my car, anyway); there were a lot of college-age people who probably have even less money to spend than I do. I'm totally judging a book by its cover. The level of ostentation can be stifling, even off-putting if you're not used to being around overly pretentious people who think themselves to be culturally enlightened. As an Indian I've dealt with a fair share of my own people who think they're a bigger deal than they are, but even I reached my limit at the 40 minute mark. If I rolled my eyes anymore than I already was at some of the nonsense spewing from the mouths of the wannabe art critics present, it would have looked like I was having a seizure. Art is an odd thing to me; I don't get most of it, and in my humble opinion, a good deal of "contemporary" art is self-indulgent garbage. What I do like, I couldn't begin to describe to you on why I like it. Don't talk to me about feelings. I had someone ask me yesternight, "Why do you like that Van dyke brown print specifically?" Shut up, that's why I like it. But he wasn't willing to let it go, and he coaxed the answer out of me. Something about an urban element contrasting the traditional setting, and the emotions felt by the... something, something. It was $550. I would actually pay that. I'm not rolling in money yet, so I'm not in impulse buy mode, but I know where to go when I want to decorate my house. I doubt my favorite piece will still be there because a lot of people seemed to gravitate toward that one. C'est la vie. I need to finish this review before I start throwing anymore French around.

I got to meet most of the artists, talk with them about their different mediums and passions. Kewl variety. Face painting today too. Even if you are not into art, you probably are familiar with a couple of the artist's work, like Bob Palmer who did all the Bricktown Murals. Carol Lorance is there with her Dragonfly Silks. Amazing photography too. But I got talking to Alexander Tomlin who was doing some cool stuff with metallics and the way the light was catching his art made it seem alive. It's a funky drop process on canvas and he kinda lost me. But wow. They are still getting set up, and it is a bit off-the-beaten path or I would have given it a 5star. A bit hard to find - southern end of the mall by the food court. South of the Carousel. The signs showed Art Classes available for children and adults. Can't wait to stop on by again when they get fully underway with those.

They close if off for the annual army's fest every Memorial Day. It's full operational at all times during the year. They have things for kids to do. There is also live theatre and acting classes. They took this old gas station and turned it into a hub for murals and arts right in the middle of the plaza district. The bright yellow paint attracts your eyes and the side of the building is one large mural.

I came from Texas to spend the day with our…read moreOkie friends and we wanted to do something that was indoors and good for both aged children (almost 3 and 7 year olds). As we searched, this place seemed perfect and in all honesty it was! We were greeted right away and given some instructions on where we could find certain things to paint. There's mugs, piggy banks, plates, bowls, seasonal items, vases, different animals of all sizes and $5 mugs which is a nice money saver. We were impressed by the selection and every piece is a different price that is on the bottom of the item. This establishment is clean and very organized. We spent 2 1/2 hours at Color Me Mine and we were provided with aprons, unlimited paint, paper towels, sponges, water cups, a ton of different brushes and even paint bottles that have a tip for writing on items. During our time there, the associate, Deb, was absolutely incredible! She was attentive and answered all of our questions. She was really good with the kids as well which we always appreciate! She explained that the pieces will have to be picked up later so the finishing gloss can be applied so I can't wait to see our finished results! Deb was happy to recommend near by restaurants as well when we asked. Of course the kids finished before us adults however the facility allows snacks and drinks so they were able to have their snacks. The pricing can vary so I suggest asking up front about the studio fee. For myself and my seven year old we left spending less than $50 including tip. For 2 1/2 hours of fun, that's worth it!

This place is AMAZING!!! My friend and I took the intro to hand sculpting class. Since it was the…read morelast day of September, we made pumpkins. Chelsea was our teacher and was fantastic!!! Some people can do things, but can't teach them. Not her! Chelsea has it all! She made us feel like rock stars and we left planning our next trip rather than leaving a class feeling inept. I wanted a little pumpkin, but my friend decided she wanted hers to be a luminary. We put an undercoat on our stem and leaves and can't wait to return to dip them! Thank you, Chelsea!
