Nice little spot just off of 6th street. The blues jam on Sunday night is one of the best in town. I enjoy playing there. Good beer on tap too. Nice and classy interior. I so wish this place had a more lounge like feel-it's the vibe I want for it! I've only happened upon Firehouse late night & so it always has a DJ, loud music, dance vibe & young crowd. Entered through a bookcase from the hostel! Met Mariana, who was working at the bar but she's also one of the partners of the Firehouse. She was very knowledgeable of the building's history and obviously had worked hard to preserve it. Had a lovely old-timey sophisticated feel to the place with a bit of haunt! Loved it. She also referred us to some other great places around Austin. Can't beat that kind of hospitality! Keep it up! We'll be back for our next visit to Austin! read more

A great destination to get away from the Frat house vibe that is the Dirty 6 Street mayhem. When you first get to The Firehouse Lounge you'll think it's just a Hostel, which a part of it is. But once you are greeted by a book worm sitting next to his book case you know something is just lurking behind the door. A great place to see live music and sip on some Whisky or beer. read more

This is the coolest place if have ever been to. As you walk in, there is a receptionist who works for the Hostel upstairs and a bookshelf, that's it. But when you slide the bookshelf, you find yourself inside an old school speakeasy like place. The only thing different is there is music and noise is allowed inside unlike a true speakeasy. Coolest bar ever. It's on the bottom floor of a hostel and you have to push a bookcase to get in. I already fell in love just with that. No servers, drinks must be ordered at the bar. Visited on a Saturday night, there were barely any seats available. The Firehouse Lounge is rapidly becoming my favorite downtown bar in Austin. It is a speakeasy style bar that centers around cocktails, but they have some good beers on tap too. They typically have a jazz or swing band playing and there are often a lot of people dancing to the music. I'm very glad this bar exists. Travelled to town from Virginia. A friend told me his band used to play here. After navigating through the bookcase, I found the bar. Dark, cold, empty. I stayed for a few drinks and decided to leave. I found myself coming back 3-4 times throughout the weekend. The "gold rush" was outstanding. This place grows on you. As a former hostess at a hotel bar/restaurant, I appreciate the seriousness with which the door man took his job to review my ID. However, when he questioned my legitimate ID, how am I to respond? When I let him know it was indeed as the Missouri DMV makes them, he started to pick at it with his nail, damaging the top layer. I suggested he get the state ID book that he should have to compare. As I am well in my thirties, I have no interest in patronizing a bar that welcomes patrons with someone unreasonable and rude. Lost my business tonight and forever. read more

Very disappointing. We used to love the ambiance of this place. Tonight we were offered a red or white wine choice and very loud music including Cee Lo Green. We were told that there is no live music on Fridays or Saturdays in October. The restrooms look like they had not been attended to in days. We will not be back. read more

What a neat little find! It is an actual hostel (which we didn't experience personally) with a Speakeasy lounge - complete with hidden door that looks like a bookshelf for entry! Once inside it is dark and not exactly in "pristine" condition- but definitely a low key and relaxed vibe inside. The bartender definitely knew what he was doing. My husband ordered an Old Fashioned, and instead of simple syrup, the bartender used a sugar cube, dashed the bitters on the sugar, and muddled it. We were so impressed right away! I ordered a negroni, which I only do at high level places as it has to be made right - and I was also really pleased with my drink! We both ordered a second round before heading out. Totally a place we would recommend stopping in at and ordering some high quality cocktails!! read more

After being in louder, much more crowded bars, we stopped in here and found it to be a wonderful change of pace - quiet, dark, jazz music - a little oasis, with fabulous drinks to boot. Ordered $115 tab of drinks, paid it, sat down, then dropped one drink while trying to straighten the table. A bartender immediately came over, said "you're done," then confiscated all the drinks we just bought! I've heard of refusing service to someone, but who charges a customer then takes away the purchase? We had to hide our valuables because they started looking at my watch desirously. On the way out I was confronted by the bartender again, I thought he was going to take my shoes that I just bought too but he just said we needed to leave immediately, while we still had a few belongings remaining in our possession. Great classic cocktails and a nice vibe. The mixologists (anyone slinging suds can be a bartender) do a great job recommending drinks based on your taste preferences. They frequently have live music and they also show some interesting movies over the bar. On the last visit they were showing a flick about African American surfers. Firehouse is totally, without doubt, a solid cocktail lounge. Warm, inviting & not too noisy with libations to be relished. To enter the hostel's lounge, slide the bookcase to the right. You're in! This bar is very much a hand-crafted cocktail and mixologist scene. If you find that insufferable and just want a Miller Lite, Firehouse isn't for you. Cocktails are well-made and strong. Awesome bar in Austin! I was staying in the Firehouse Hostel and went to this place every evening before heading out, and also generally for a few extra drinks when coming home. They have happy hour everyday and delicious cocktails on the menu! They have a few snack boards you can get with cured meats, olives and cheese which are delicious. The staff here are honestly so nice and amazing too, we made good friends with Brad who is such an amazing barman. Even if you arent staying at the hostel I would recommend checking this place out, its just of 6th street and a great place to hang out. They have live bands many nights during the week too. read more

My one night stay at The Fire House Hostel was delightful. The beds were very comfortable and clean. The hostel offers free breakfast in the morning which was nice. They provide towels,pillows, and blankets. I paid for parking,which in my opinion should be free... Other than that it was a good time! A big thank you to all the wonderful staff members!
